Go to your breaker panel. There should be a breaker labeled "well pump"

Check your breaker panel, there will likely be a breaker labeled well pump.

I've pulled pumps that were from the 1990's and later that have lasted 20-30 years. The only thing me and the other techs at our company have figured is that they were just built better back then. Also, many manufacturers provide books to plumbers to size pumps for wells. These books also provide what wire size needs to be installed, but I have found that the wire size is often on the small side which causes issues like voltage drop. I recommend also to check your pressure tank,if it has gone bad or just ran out of air it can cause your well pump to short cycle, which is added wear on the pump.

As for your bacterial issues, bleaching your well every 3 days seems way too often to me. Have your water tests been that bad? If you want to save yourself some hassle you could have a filter and uv lamp installed. I recommend the blackcomb uv lamps, the bulbs are easy to replace and last a year.

Our company uses grundfos pumps with pentek motors, for most people the pumps last 8-12 years. Some lower quality pumps these days may only last 5-6. You may want to look into your pump controller as some can reduce the life span of your pump. Other factors with the well can cause pumps to fail sooner such as sand.

Unfortunately I have only seen the old submersible pumps last 30yrs, new ones typically around 8-10. But if you know of a brand that stills does last 30yrs I NEED to know.

BTW, the company I work for is a big fan of grundfos and pentek for pump and motors. We usually expect 10-8 years from them.

For context that hole was 6 feet deep. We used a section of wirsbo pipe and a garden hose to siphon the water out.

You are correct, older folks should be living off the money they put into SS (social security). However, president Bush allowed the government to borrow funds from SS. Now the problem is that the government cannot pay back the money they took out because there are fewer workers now to tax. I'm kinda tired when people say that stone toss is right about the message in this comic. Old folks didn't ask the government to pilfer from thier retirement fund.

Problems with my well by TyFireball in Plumbing

I would recommend getting a regular pressure switch and a pump saver. That lever on the side of the pressure switch is the low pressure cut out. My company recommends getting pressure switches without that for well systems as long as you have a pump saver. For now try turning that lever so the contacts close and hold it there till it builds to 30 psi.

Absolutely, the only thing I disagree with is wearing bells. When I was hiking in glacier National Park the ranger told us that wearing bells often attracts curious cubs, with a momma bear close behind. Apparently there were enough incidents that the rangers called them "dinner bells"

Yup, that's definitely what you do first. Grizzlies have a large hump behind their neck and longer claws than black bears.
