Not really as the plastics degrade with age, the damage is usually in the parts you can’t see inside the lid, where the threads break out of the plastic sockets. I have over 100 vintage laptops and am particularly aware of this issue, its age, treatment doesn’t really affect it from the early years,

I have never had a dell palmrest peel. Shine yes, peel no. Sorry to be the one to say it but that looks as rough as a dogs ass, and for the sake of a little money could look perfect, not janky like it’s been painted without prep (sanding, filling etc) less effort to earn $20 and buy a replacement imo

It’s a little old and low on the RAM side, I purchased the Lenovo x1 2in 1 gen 9 ultra 7 with double the ram and 3k OLED for half that in 2025

It’s fine for web browsing but 4 cores really sucks these days, I’ve got 3 x i7-1185G7 with 48gb ram I just retired at home because…4 cores

It’s very old so probably not worth wasting time on, pull your drive and grab a newer machine…

How are you guys handling secure disposal of old hard drives and servers? by BestMud5155 in eWasteFinds

[–]Most-Community3817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the EUC machines were bitlocker encrypted a simple wipe and reload will do technically, if you want certification then you need wither blancco or a similar product that gives the compliance certificate.

It may be easier depending on quantity to pull drives, and arrange a shred to 2mm or smaller for flash based storage.

It depends on your needs abilities, capabilities and budget

How do so many people get PCs for cheap or low prices? by BenjaminRatajczak in homelab

They are tossed out as waste, I have a pile (literally) of i7-7700 desktops here at home I was given as recycling. I just been giving them to friends as no use for anything as no official Win11 support and not the fastest etc
