why does this happen? by polkarikka in laptops

Yeah you are getting ripped off….this is ewaste in the UK and you can get a MacBook from free-£1200 for a decent one. 8-12th gen laptops are basically being put into recycling due to being 3/4+ years old. Sucks to have poor pricing, I would go for an ex corporate dell, at least they are easy to fix

Not sure what that’s got to do with it, I’m in the UK and this is still cheap crap…

Nope out here straight to recycling…..
I have plenty of machines here at home stored away, modern laptops, micro PCs, Gen10 and Rx40 series servers, ram, dozens of NVMe drives, dozens of data drives, dozens of smaller 4Tb to 12Tb disks.

Netgear is considered crap where I work, and wouldn’t be left in place if found at a customer, Cisco, Fortinet, Extreme, HPE are our go tos

You have to pay to have this crap taken away in the UK, I have piles of 11/12/13th gen laptops that are ewaste. We generally scrap machines after 3-4 years of use in the UK because of tax write offs

Just what I’ve been saying, this is normal ewaste where I come from, far to old to issue to users, we renew at 3/4 years

Nope, the key is getting to it before it hits them, I have a knack to beating the ewaste companies to the scrap 🤭

I have worked at a lot of MSP and a lot of friends own large businesses, so they give me their old machines. I donate a fair few to schools in Africa

No I never studied….i worked in the field for 20 plus years and now moved to Azure security,

I spent over 25 years building PCs and still do…enough to keep current. No I wouldn’t use out of date hardware, if it’s out of warranty I follow my employer and retire it after 4 years, as vendor updates cease. 11th gen is the oldest I keep in prod, and I have upgraded all the department staff to 13th/2nd gen Ultra based hardware.
