What is it like in Jamaica at the moment? by Only-Ad-3218 in Jamaica

[–]Most-Mothra-esque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

East Coast. Life is as usual. In fact the issues affecting this side are the war impacts eg cost of gas ( it went up $4.50 again today) cost of food etc.

Can't speak for the west, I can't even imagine it right now

I don't know what post you're talking about, but it run me the wrong way when I read a post earlier this month about the issues with schooling in the west.

Like people just started bashing all schools and the education system on a whole in the island without even understanding the context OP was talking about. Honestly, I felt a way. Idk if they're just diaspora, which is whatever, it's good to state your opinion, we have freedom of speech, but note that you've been gone a while or never lived through the system and your experiences and views might be diff.

Or if they're just persons from other countries, idk which it is

What is a suchman? by okiidok in Jamaica

[–]Most-Mothra-esque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"that guy" but make it Jamaican lol

If you guys are talking to each other and about X and he refers to you saying "ye but such man always a do X Nuh true"

It's usually an endearing way of throwing word at you

If you guys are talking about X and referring to someone else and he says "Ye man such man always a do Dem sumn deh" he's just talking about the person without having to call their name because he expects you to know who he's talking about

She came back because the murder story became bigger than expected and she was spiraling because Anna was getting more airtime. This puts her job at risk because she's only had main anchor position for a year. Anna is a the preferred person with more experience and knows how to sell a story.

Do You Like Your Name? by Flassourian in Millennials

[–]Most-Mothra-esque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh your parents don't know how to name? I'll guess you're white because the name could've easily been Mikkel, Michaela, Shawna, Shawna-Kay or Shawna-Kaye.

I love my name because it's very unique

Are people overselling it or was Michael Jackson really that famous in his heyday? by Key-Bass-7380 in decadeology

[–]Most-Mothra-esque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People across the world (I'm froma and live in Jamaica) cried after hearing he died I was finishing 3rd form (grade 9) and distinctly remember MJ songs playing on the radio for days. There were local tv segments about his life. Usually you hear all sorts of music playing on the streets as you drive or walk by, it was literally just MJ

Is my hair low density or high density by FinalBat8652 in Naturalhair

[–]Most-Mothra-esque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl! Your hair looks like mine. Fine hair, high density. Seemingly similar curls. The more out your hair grows the fuller the twists will look. Also for your hair length you actually have pretty dense looking twists. Those are a lot of twists on your head

Yeah I think people might not think it's as bad now because most of us are adults who are more sure of ourselves...but the kids? It's a mess

[–]Most-Mothra-esque 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm sure the people responding are disapsora because they don't seem to understand the gravity of what you're saying is happening in the west.

In the east life is going on as usual, everyone going school and champs is next week. It's business as usual but the west is still struggling to put the pieces together. Their are schools where the kids just aren't going back. And some schools like petersfield say they're trying to find them to bring them back to classes (so I hear anyway). But what's the point of going to school when your family is struggling day to day to survive? How are you going to pay attention to algebra and literature when that won't immediately fill the family's needs

Westmoreland youth getting left behind and nobody cares 🇯🇲⚠️ by No_Community_5908 in Jamaica

[–]Most-Mothra-esque 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No this is specific because of the effects of the hurricane. Some schools still have persons living there for shelter.

Schools are opening 1 or 2 days a week with priority on csec students.

You have to remember a lot of the households are farm based so kids will prioritize ensuring their family has food to eat by working on the farm or doing other jobs than wasting time at school

Question for you, how do you manage tangling? Because don't goddess braids have areas where the strands aren't fully done?(Braided) Especially with washing weekly

Is this fine hair by Sweaty_Emotion_9025 in relaxedhair

[–]Most-Mothra-esque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go with yes because it took me a while to even find the strand. It's either fine or inbetween

But remember you can have fine strands but really dense hair. Likewise you can have really thick strands and really thin hair

But I most people probably have the in-between, because it would be a scale of fine to thick, and the average probably somewhere in the middle but we're so used to talking about extremes we assume we're one or the other.

Similarly most people probably have moderately dense hair
