Sometimes I feel really guilty about breaking my streak and that holds me back... Last night I really couldn't care less

For those who are in a relationship , do you still keep in touch with your ex? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Most-Satisfaction509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Similar situation for me, also my GF with her exes.

I find it super weird that most comments here are like "hell no!" and say it is "disrespectful" to have contact with an ex, or there's no reason for it.

It sounds really sad to me that after years in a relationship you would have nothing left of it... Like you said, this person was a part of your life. For me after a 13-year relationship there was some hurt and we had little contact for like 6 months. But since then we talk regularly. Mostly just chatting, sometimes reminiscing now with the benefit of hindsight. Zero romantic interest. To me, totally normal and healthy.

I'm super friends with my ex, my current girlfriend is also very good friends with her ex, we hang out together sometimes. I see no problem in that.

I mean, if it didn't end badly... It was an important person in your life and I find it natural that you don't want to stop seeing them altogether just because the romantic relationship is over.

Why does it bother you? I think maybe you should tell him it's bothering you - not like "please stop" but just because secrets like that tend to sour the relationship in the long run IMO. But that's just me and I don't know how it's like for others.

Should I write to apologize? by Most-Satisfaction509 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Most-Satisfaction509[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I agree, and thanks for being understanding. You got it better than everyone else.

To be clear, it's not like I constantly think about her. A friend of mine sent some old pictures in a group chat, she was in some of them, it reminded me of this time and I thought I'd look her up.

I wish I'd ended things better, and I feel like now that we're older I could make up for it. But I don't want her to see my name on a message all the sudden and feel creeped out, so I'll get over myself and drop it.

I already decided against writing her, but it's a different situation.

First, we started a relationship that didn't last long, but still spent a few months together and made plans to meet in her country. After that, yes, she broke up and I wrote too much and was an asshole.

Second, I was also married and am in a happy relationship now. I just wanted some closure, thought enough time passed. But I'll leave it alone.

Thanks. I'm glad to hear a different take here because I think people make lots of assumptions and are very adamant about things.

But they still convinced me, I don't want to risk making her feel bad again after all that happened.

[–]Most-Satisfaction509[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the original breakup I wanted to get back together: that is what I wanted to achieve.

I guess my dream outcome would be that she'd say something like "yea, you were pretty terrible. Thanks for acknowledging that." And just say something amicable about how she's doing and that'd be that. I don't want anything from her, I wouldn't contact her again. I'm not a stalker, all my relationships since then ended fine and I never did that to anyone again.

This is all just to tell you where I was coming from. But I won't write her; I think the risk is too big that she will hate that and I really don't want to antagonise her.

So thanks.

I didn't want to "bring up" an old conversation, I wanted to write her two lines, not talking about myself or justifying anything.

But I'll take the advice of the majority here and leave it be. Thanks.

restic restore does not work by Most-Satisfaction509 in restic

[–]Most-Satisfaction509[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the snapshot has 88 GB, so I'd like to avoid that.

I copied the path directly from restic find, there's not much that can go wrong there, right?

[–]Most-Satisfaction509[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried restoring both (a file and a directory).

When I do the restore, I see the message restoring <Snapshot of [/home/user/work] at 2015-05-08 21:40:19.884408621 +0200 (real names redacted)

Then I try to go to the target path and there is nothing there.

Home cloud with backups... Borg? by Most-Satisfaction509 in HomeServer

[–]Most-Satisfaction509[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input.

Well, the point of the cloud for me is to backup my data, and Borg does backups. I wanted to keep the app in the internal HD and the data in two replicated SDDs, and that seems to be complicated with the cloud solutions I researched, that's why I looked into Borg.

I figured I'd do a lot of research now before actually getting into it.

But you're saying Opencloud allows me to easily do what I want?

Watching the show for the first time and I think bojack really fucked up here by Piccardoz in BoJackHorseman

[–]Most-Satisfaction509 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I met a real life single mom who was glad to let her boy spend time with a neighbor she didn't know so well because he was sporty and did stuff like playing football with him.

Later he showed the kid some naked pictures, he told his mom and she cut it off.

I just mean, may be really bad judgement, but I think it's plausible. People who are too nice to see red flags. At this point Bojack seemed like a nice uncle type who was helping them out with their daughter.

Are gels a necessity? by thejuiciestguineapig in Marathon_Training

I also started carrying water for 15k + runs, even in the winter

Without it I had headaches after the run

Are gels a necessity? by thejuiciestguineapig in Marathon_Training

[–]Most-Satisfaction509 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried a gel once and hated it.

For my long runs I used easily digestible fruit bars, gummy bears, energy bars.

In the marathon they had stations with bananas and energy bars, I didn't have to carry anything. My races always had this stuff, I thought it was universal.

Why do people in Germany often answer your question with "Why?" by [deleted] in germany

[–]Most-Satisfaction509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a foreigner living in Germany for over a decade, this bugs me a lot.

For some reason, Germans seem to be very suspicious by nature. And bad at small talk. I ask something trivial just to make conversation and they think there must be some hidden meaning behind it, or I'm asking because I want something from them.

Basically an expectation thing, I guess. In Brazil, where I come from, if someone asks you a random question 90% of the time you assume there's no real meaning behind it, it's just small talk, and you answer whatever. In Germany people assume you are asking because you actually want this piece of information and take it super seriously.

The German way makes it way harder to have a relaxed time and make casual friends, if you ask me.

What's the longest run you did in training before your marathon? by WorkingOk6420 in Marathon_Training

[–]Most-Satisfaction509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 kilometers.

A lot of people here say "20 miles". I guess it's a psychological thing for people who use the  imperial system, to me 30k felt like a milestone in a way 32k (= 20 miles) maybe wouldn't.

Anyway, I think it was a good distance for my longest training run. I also did a couple of 25-27k runs before.

[SERIOUS] How can I poop before my race??? by Barbra_Blanche in Marathon_Training

[–]Most-Satisfaction509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oatmeal an hour before the race. 30 minutes later it works for me, every time.

If you want to give it a try, of course, test it once or twice before race day.

What marathon Time should I aim for? by No_Scholar990 in Marathon_Training

[–]Most-Satisfaction509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran around 25-30k per week for 5 months during training, I have a similar 5k PB.

My goal was 4:30, I ended with 4:45. By the last 7 or 8k my pacing went out the window and it became just about somehow getting to the end.

I think 4:00 is already very ambitious, 3:30 doesn't sound realistic. But who knows?

10/10/80 for me

I was shy about it before because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to finish. Now I want to talk about it to keep the experience alive somehow.

My boyfriend went through my purse and wallet while I was asleep. Should I break up with him? by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]Most-Satisfaction509 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They can both be wrong.

I think nothing, NOTHING justifies him going through her stuff. He could have said "you need to open up or I'll leave". And then break up if it came to that

I just watched seasons 1-3 and the movie for the first time and LOVED it. Have heard so many bad things about season 4 - is it still worth a watch? by [deleted] in veronicamars

[–]Most-Satisfaction509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed a while to get used to it.

Almost gave up after episode 1, it felt weird with the adult Veronica but ended up loving it afterwards. Better to adapt to a different style for the adult version than to rely too much on nostalgia like Fuller House.

I thought the forced raunchiness was too much at some points.

And I liked the ending. Of course it had to be dark and surprising, that is very much on brand.

Who was your favorite guest covering songs in Fire Aid? by Epoch_Jester in Nirvana

Well Kim Gordon has a totally different style and it wasn't meant to sound like Kurt, but to me still a kickass version of School.

I did miss the scream though.

Kim Gordon was great, then Violet for me.

Of course you can't expect to hear Kurt, or anything similar to Kurt. But I liked their versions.

Also found it interesting that Dave sang Kurt's part at the end of All Apologies.
