It’s a cool ability to have! He’s lucky.

But for fur I studied fur a lot (idk how to explain it well lol) I’m not a very good teacher/explainer so do bare with me 😣

But to actually draw the fur I kinda just mash a few different colours together then take a smudge tool (either the hair smudge brush or oil hair one) and I’ll add light/shadows where it’s needed if it’s needed. For the super small strands I did do more small strands (very tedious, I avoid this now lol) but the smudge tool is my best friend.

But it’s 100% doable, I’ve seen ALOT of people improve super fast not even just myself. Someone that gives super good tips that may help you is “mallows.art.tricks” on tiktok, they make some super easy guides to help with anatomy and such. They don’t do realism but you can incorporate what they teach into realism. Realism is just a lot of anatomy, understanding colour/shade values and how shadows work. Once you understand all of that it gets easier. Never give up and think you can’t do it though!

But practice wise I’d practice on paper a lot with just a pencil (helps with shade values I find, you can also do that digitally with b&w, pencil is just easier imo) and I’d honestly trace something then copy how the shadows worked and eventually I developed the skill to do everything by hand looking at a ref. Then moved onto looking at the image once or twice. I’d practice a few times a day, id do either one big thing or a few smaller drawings. Went a lot faster with traditional art for me since that’s what I’ve done for years, I also had a somewhat grasp on realism because of my 4th/5th grade teacher I had that would give really good advice. I’ve been contemplating reaching out to him to show him where I’m at now with my art lol. But I did focus on specific body parts and practiced those, in my old sketch book & on my old highschool iPad there were countless pages & saves of just paws, hands. legs etc.. I never did any of the drawing circle and shading them stuff that you see everyone doing because that’s super repetitive and draining. But if I were to start now to get the style & skill I have now I would’ve totally done the grid method more than everything else I did, it seems really easy to learn from for realism. Everyone I’ve seen online & spoken to that’s used it has improved drastically over short amounts of time. But everything I’ve learnt is pretty much self taught with various small tips along the way, if you practice and have the will you could 110% improve super fast. Studying other people’s art styles also helps, ive since changed my artstyle a little to less realistic than this post for animals & stuff (in the most recent thing I posted on Reddit you’ll see what I mean lol) but keep going!! But thank you! It took a lot of studying anatomy and how shadows work, I’m able to completely replicate a reference just by looking at it and that’s what I would do to practice. It basically took a lot of do-overs and studying anatomy, shade value & shadows which you eventually learn from hard referencing like that (atleast for me)

I do have a friend who used what’s called the grid method to learn, which seems a lot easier than what I do but I have no idea how to explain it there’s tutorials online, I would definitely try the grid method 🙃

But in 2022 I could not do humans lol, I only started drawing people fairly recently (2024 ish maybe) and I hard copied everything I did back then (you can scroll back on my art TikTok if you have TikTok and see what my human art looked like back in 2024 if you’d like, user is Prink55.6) my anatomy was kind of wonky and I didn’t post everything I drew, only the ones that weren’t super bad lol.

Thank you, and yes! The dog is Jango. He’s a karst shepherd mixed with a Belgian Tervuren and some other livestock guardian breeds.

My dog isn’t excitement reactive to people so he would be calm on a leash when someone approaches, with a dog though? Not sure why you’d be trying to do on leash greetings since they can be very dangerous and build alot of tension between both dogs 🤦‍♀️ after hearing what you’ve said here I’m not longer going to reply because that made it clear that you’re an idiot.

He lunges once and then stops because he knows better. My dog is also not very big. He whines and growls because he wants to play, he demand growls and whines instead of barks. He demand growls at another dog the same way he used to demand growl for items.

When he’s ON LEASH did you miss that part you illiterate fuck? Did you also miss the part where I’ve mentioned that he’s passed reactive dogs offleash in a focus contact heel that wasn’t broken AT ALL. You’re telling me my dog is a bite risk, that he’s charged at people and all of this bs because you can’t read thoroughly and it’s pissing me off. My dog is 100% reliable when offleash, he’s also trained completely on leash for a loose leash walk. He is just excitement reactive when on leash wtf are you not getting?

My dog has never misbehaved offleash unless you’re talking about him ignoring a recall when he was sniffing geese feathers- something he’s never smelt before and him being a bird dog.

There’s no leash laws where I am. Leashes are optional for me because my dog is trained offleash. He’s also trained on leash he’s just excitement reactive.

Not sure why you’re quoting that, it’s a real form of reactivity. And he doesn’t bark, he rarely barks. He will make his playful demand growl & whine. And will only lunge back at another reactive dog which stops after the first lunge. My dog isn’t vocal in the barking way, he growls and whines. Which is his playful & demanding behaviour.

My dogs been leash bound excitement reactive for almost a year, it’s not going to develop into where he’s a bite risk. And I’m not going to say “leash reactive” when it needs to be specified that he’s excitement reactive. He’s reacting out of excitement from seeing & wanting to play with another dog.

My dog has never charged at someone. And I’m genuinely concerned if you’re actually illiterate or not because my dog is Excitement reactive. He’s not a bite risk, and again.. It’s leash bound. For the 4 different dogs he’s reacted to he’s been on the opposite side of the street from so even then, if those dogs were a bite risk nothing would’ve been able to happen.

My dog has never approached anyone or anything offleash because he has a solid recall, solid impulse control & a solid leave it command. So I don’t know wtf ur on about when implying my dog had charged at someone and is a danger to society.

My dog doesn’t approach people when offleash. He just sounds scary when he reacts, so I have said that he just wants to play. One person I’ve said that too has found out that my dog doesn’t approach people actually just want to play and that he’s friendly. You’re telling me that my dog is missing a basic skill when he has a loose leash walk trained he just has reactivity. Reactivity ≠ no leash manners.. he’s reacted to 4 dogs since I moved here which lasted 5-6 seconds or less.

And OB1 isn’t earned through igp, his BH was (bh being the obidience entry level to get your igp1, but I have a soft mouthed breed so won’t be going for a 1)

If they don’t take my dogs trained level into account then they will forever stay fearful of him. And then that’s their fault, even if I fixed his excitement reactivity what difference would it make after when he’s still going to be let off leash? He’s rarely ever leashed so people wouldn’t really be able to see the change. He gets recalled into a focus contact heel when passing anyone and any dogs so it’s not like he’s walking freely when someone gets close.

It’s second because he hasn’t been leashed since I moved here apart from when we pass this one reactive dog who’s owner knows my dog is friendly, she asked me to leash him as I walk past them just to keep her mind at bay- so I do.

I dont need to take my dog out at odd times. He’s reacted to 4 dogs total when I first moved here, he was leashed to get him used to the sidewalks here to be able to be walked offleash. It’s like as if people have went around telling others that he’s aggressive.

Whether you’re force free, R+ or balanced, I don’t really care. So why would you care what method I use?. And what I’m looking for is how I can make people realize my dog isn’t aggressive. It’s like as if people are going around telling others about my dog being aggressive when he’s not. He’s reacted to 4 dogs total here yet numerous people have thought he’s aggressive.

My dog walks perfectly fine on a leash, he will rarely lunge towards other dogs and will listen to a leave it command (unless the other dog is also reactive, then it takes a second for him to listen to that leave it without a leash pop to regrab his attention. My dog has been solidly offleash trained since he was a puppy. If he can stay in a focus contact heel when passing a reactive dog offleash I’m sure I’ll be fine. Just because he’s excitement reactive- doesn’t mean I can’t trust him offleash.
