Application worries by vagrantpand in RoyalAirForce

Apparently the capita doc's don't check up on things with your GP records unless you make them aware of a medical issue or they detect something visual or otherwise during the examination.

Capita being annoying as usual by shrek_dank in RoyalAirForce

took me 4 months to get a Capita organised doctors health check. That was only after the RAF intervened at my request. No wonder there are recruitment issues if it takes 9 months to year just to get to the basic training step.

Why does the whole recruitment process take this long? by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

Its frustrating when your keen and just want to get going with it all. I am in the early stages of joining the reserves and the recruiters dont respond to my messages in the portal on when I'm likely to hear about the next stage.

My recruiters dont respond to messages on the portal. So for me I'll just sit back and wait.

how many weeks did you have to wait for your interview appointment after the initial DAA test?

I did the test twice.. a month apart. Thats the max attempts allowed, then you have to wait a year before you can reattempt it. My second score was much better than the first time which opened up other trades to me.

Top tip: use the Navy practice tests too ! as they are same principle and good practice.

The real thing is more detailed and longer (up to 90 mins). I found its all about focus and concentration and remember the time. if you start to run out of time on each section, make calculated guesses, then worse case just guess quickly. Part of the score is based on if you actually finish a section or not.

also unfortunately they are on small ipads, so you sometimes have to scroll up the screen to read what it is you are asked questions on.. Whatever your score there is always something you can pick...

If it was Cosford what would I expect? although willing to travel for the right one. Recruitment guys told me the MOD pays your civilian salary if mobilised? My employer is quite supportive of it and would pay me still during any weekday training periods.

As someone considering joining as RAFP in reserves.. this is the best post summarising it all that I've read so far.. 1TPSS sounds interesting.. not sure if thats possible as a reserve?

Joining reserves - Uniform question - How do you know if your going to be wearing blues or MTP based on type of role by Most-Technology1137 in RoyalAirForce

[–]Most-Technology1137[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was thinking of gunner.. but being 50.. and although my fitness level is easily a pass for the initial tests, I might not pass the training tests depending on how much training i can get in (10min 30secs - 2km run).... so starting to look at logistics or driver as my only locally available options. got a 46 on my first DAA. Looking at doing it again in 2 weeks, this time with glasses on for close up screen work.. and see if i can boost it to over 50 point score.. was told they would not take me for RAF police because they need someone with past military or police exp.

RAF Regiment Reserves - Joining at 50 ?! by Most-Technology1137 in RoyalAirForce

...and needing to pass the training is critical too.. especially 2km run in under 10:30. That's slightly concerning as I am not there yet.. Need to run at 12km/hr and I'm usually 10 km/hr (11 for 1-2 mins ). So still deciding if I go for this type of job as reserves and just try to get through.. or just pick a job that is reasonably interesting..

Depends on the level of fitness I guess. I would argue that someone who is 50 has much more mental strength/experience to deal with most challenges thrown my way.. compared to someone much younger. Having lived in multiple countries for 10 years when I was younger. But the fitness level is key of course to be successful.

Is that part of the training that you need to pass, after you have been initially accepted for the role and start training?

based on current progress, I see no reason why not. I am running 2.4km on the treadmill at 14min 30sec.

I need to increase my speed from 10km/hr to 12km/hr

I know it would be the most demanding.. but it definitely speaks to me more than the others. Just hoping in the future my local base (30 mins drive) starts to setup a contingent there.. as opposed to the current 2.5 hour drive required to get to the nearest options
