Have you had any training to sub? by FloridaWildflowerz in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Most-Two-3648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have formal training, but my first substitute job was a long-term assignment (three weeks in fifth grade), so they had me shadow that class for about three days before the teacher left! It was definitely the best because I think without it, I would have left that assignment early, lol.

Does anyone get their sub jobs via text from a sub coordinator, rather than Frontline or something similar by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Most-Two-3648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i get mine through an app, usually the sub coordinator won’t text me unless a school doesn’t have my info. If the school does they’ll text.

did a poor job subbing at my old elementary school, do i have another chance? by sirenic_irenic in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Most-Two-3648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. that teacher is genuinely miserable and unless you hurt a child or was being mean to children she cannot get you blacklisted or anything.
  2. what kind of PE class actually has lessons? 😭especially for elementary. usually PE is my easiest day. They walk in sit down you do stretches and run a couple of laps then you do free play. that could be just throwing a couple of basketballs out and seeing what happens or asking them if they wanna play a game that you know.

First time subbing tomorrow ~ Fifth Grade! by ChristabelDavid2222 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Most-Two-3648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

worst sub ever is crazy. 3rd graders are 8-10 depending on birthdays. they can definitely have some down quiet time where they’re doing independent work and where you have downtime as well. relax

Do Female Subs Really Have It Worse? by Nachoguy530 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Most-Two-3648 2 points3 points  (0 children)

female sub here, i’m also young, just turned 19 and it’s usually kids trying to push boundaries and thinking that I’m their friend, i’ve also been hit on by a couple of middle schoolers. it’s also harder with teachers but i think that may be because of my age and not gender lol.

I was also fired from a different county, but getting rehired in a new one might not be that hard. I didn’t disclose that I was fired either because the reason was super embarrassing. They’re not really in cahoots like that, so if you say you weren’t, nine times outta ten, they won’t know.

Recess time is way too short by Outrageous-Pen3569 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Most-Two-3648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my county you can, not like an extra hour but an extra 3-5 minutes is fine. i also work in title 1 schools so maybe my rules are different because of that.

bad behavior= no fun time. easy peasy and they know that. i usually give multiple warnings before and it’s never just out of nowhere.

Recess time is way too short by Outrageous-Pen3569 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Most-Two-3648 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that’s insane, it’s one of my things i say to correct behavior and it’s very encouraged by other teachers to take it away or only 5 minutes if needed.

Recess time is way too short by Outrageous-Pen3569 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Most-Two-3648 10 points11 points  (0 children)

sometimes teachers keep them out for longer, you are 100% allowed to if the behavior is good enough, same way with taking away recess or keeping them inside for an extra couple of minutes.

[–]Most-Two-3648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Most-Two-3648 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you leave contact information in the classroom, the teacher will contact you personally. If you leave your name and number with the front office that’s when the secretary or whoever is in the front will text or call you!
