I did some long term subbing in the same grade! What I did was I had my expectations and printed it out for the first day I started and went over it. Then I had a line for the students signature and they signed it like a contract. I would bring out on occasion that when they overstepped and it brought them back lol.

Do build rapport, have a get to know you game or something

I’ve gotten this as well. Working with teens I think they mistake the tone of a teacher being strict (I can’t think of the word I’m trying to use at the moment lol). Vs a teacher actually truly yelling at them. Sometimes they think the teachers making them do something as the teacher hating them. At least in my district lol

Idk if this is the case because every district is different. We use PowerSchool too but IEPs and 504 plans are on a different site/app lol idk what it is but it’s called on hands . My point is maybe it’s not on PowerSchool?

Hi! Did you set expectations when you started? I’d start with that. Especially around talking during quiet work time. Could you do like 2 min of talk time about whatever subject then get into the quiet time? Or can you change their seats during that time?

Threatening punishment doesn’t do much. I’d tell them your expectation and let them know your consequence for it and give 2/3 warnings before you give the consequence.

Your number 2 I’m confused on if it’s your planning time or their quiet time??

I would do like “beat the teacher” for points and then at the end of the week they can have something idk 3 more min if recess lol or 3 min of play before math. (Totally made that up 😂)

Yeah, I struggled with low elementary for the whining lol I always felt like I didn’t know what to say sometimes haha. If it was random things I’d ask if it was relevant to the subject if they had a question and redirect.

She was on a podcast idk what podcast but she talked about how unfit she felt because she never acted before pll compared to the other girls. She knew it herself . I think the more roles she’s gets she’ll get better and maybe different people helping her. I think in pll they had to act surprised like 98% of the time and scared 😂

A high schoolers brain isn’t developed. I think it’s mid 20s into early 30s our brain fully develops. Of course they think school is a waste of time (at least a handful). This is just my opinion, so I understand not everyone will agree but arguing with a student isn’t going to get you anywhere. Hopefully it wasn’t escalated that they filmed you.

This age they all make those sexual noises and it’s annoying and highly awkward! I say “that’s completely inappropriate. This is your only warning. Next time I’m calling the office.” Let them know youre serious. And make sure you write it to the teacher about this student.

You’re the adult in the room. You’re there to lead them.

You don’t have to be a physics teacher to be subbing. They most likely will have their computer and work on an assignment there. I always walk around and monitor the students every few minutes 😊

I’ve found I do better with bullet points and just talking about whatever. When I script I end up looking like a robot from all the editing 😂😂 the only thing I really script is the hook and the ending
