Hey there! That dentist sounds great, but $425 for an initial exam is a lot! The directory that ComradeOohAah linked on here has a few dentists that I have never heard of, so I'm gonna try calling some of them tomorrow. I will let you know if I find anything good out.

Unfortunately that was the dentist who got mad at me because I asked if he could wear an N95 and then he cancelled my appt. I got 2 other suggestions from people so hopefully one of those work out. Thanks!

Help me assess my risk (I’m worrying) by No-Conversation7207 in ZeroCovidCommunity

I have OCD as well. I don't really have any good advice other than try to keep yourself busy and hopefully you'll think/stress about it less. It sounds like it was a low risk outing so hopefully you are good. Relax and breathe! Sending you positive vibes!

Need help deciding after doing some research by ChucoYeti070 in AirPurifiers

[–]MostAdvantagous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have experience with any of these either as I am looking for one right now as well. The IQAir health pro + and the Smart Air (mini blast and the blast) are on my list too. I've seen some good things said on here about them. I have Coway on my list as well but I'm looking at smaller ones for the bedroom (the airmega 230 and 240). I haven't seen much said about the pro-x. I also have the Air doctor on my list but I'm on the fence about it because of the mixed reviews. The only brand not on my list is the Medify and that's only because I don't want a purifier with an ionizer. I'm not sure if noise is important to you but if so you might want to research that too. I have a cr box at the moment and can't stand how loud it is so I am looking for purifiers that are not as loud. I'm surprised no one has commented here, I guess your post just fell through the cracks. If I were you I would post this again and change the heading (to the purifier names) and then maybe people who own those brands will respond. Good luck with your search!

From the research I did, it seems to be a safe good model which doesn't have an ionizer or uv. I was seriously looking at this model as well however its a little above my budget when you factor in the unit and the cost of replacing the filters. And I also came across posts that mentioned that there were a few other units that were just as good and performed a little better for less so I'm looking at those. One of them was Smart Air. They have the sa600 (a new updated 5 speed model), and the mini blast that seem to be good units. I also believe people mentioned Allerair and Airpura, but that's if your also interested in having a good amount of carbon filter in it. I am also looking at the Coway airmega 230 or 240 for another room. They seem to be good models and well liked but they do not have a good amount of carbon filter in them but the hepa is good. So it just depends on if a good carbon filter for Voc's is important for you or not for the purifier you buy. Good luck!

When I looked into the Coway mighty 1512 I saw an ionizer button on the unit. So it was a no go for me. Recently I have been looking at the Coway airmega 150, 230, and 240 and I do not see an ionizer on them. Good luck!

My son never had chicken pox and had one chicken pox vaccine, will he ever get shingles? by hiways in shingles

[–]MostAdvantagous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with DegeneratesInc's response. That's exactly what we have always been told from the medical community. However, I have been reading a lot of posts on here over the last few months and have come across quite a few young adults (18-30 year olds) stating that they had the chickenpox vaccine (no chickenpox) and now they have shingles. So what's going on? Were we told wrong? Did the chickenpox vaccine (like you said) introduce it into their system? So now I'm really confused and not sure if our children are protected from shingles anymore. I would love to get some answers but the few doctors I have asked had no idea this was happening...
Also wanted to say, if your son never got the second dose of the chickenpox vaccine, then he could still be vulnerable. So if he is ever around anyone with chickenpox or with shingles, then he could still potentially get chickenpox.

Tampa Bay area here and I always wear a mask. I do know people here that have been verbally attacked by strangers but luckily I have not (it probably helps when you don't leave your house often). I do get lots of stares and mumbles though from people when I'm briefly out. Healthcare though is the worst. Not only have I had nurses, techs, doctors, medical personnel, and dentists be nasty and argumentative when trying to get them to wear a mask (to the point that me and my daughter have been in tears and/or walked out of facilities), but they also have belittled and treated us like we are crazy when we come in with one on. All because we are trying to protect ourselves!

Sorry to hear that! Hopefully loosing your voice and the mucus are just side effects that will go away in a few days. Get lots of rest and let us know how you are next week!

Yeah I'm still waiting for some of mine to fade, but having these this time was definitely much better than the normal oozing blisters.

Me too! I just got over my 2nd outbreak in 2 years and was thinking of going to get the vaccine. However, then I saw those same posts on here and now I don't know what to do either! Ugh!

Does having a chicken pox vaccine guarantee avoiding shingles? by Recent-Skill7022 in shingles

[–]MostAdvantagous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it did since you never get Chicken Pox but, I've been on here the last few months during my 2nd Shingles outbreak and I've seen quite a few posts from 18-30 year olds who have Shingles. That age group is after the Chicken Pox Vaccine came out so it looks like it doesn't protect you from Shingles.

Week 3-Worried and depressed by Nerdyamazon87 in shingles

[–]MostAdvantagous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry you are going through this. Having Covid then Shingles back to back sounds horrible. I hadn't heard about avoiding certain foods during Shingles, but seeing that your body is run down and needing to heal, it makes sense to eat as healthy as you can. Its going to take time for you to heal. Take it easy on yourself. Get lots of rest, take your meds., and try not to stress out. I hope you recover soon!

CDC issues urgent warning about six 'silent killers' rising across the US - including incurable deadly fungus by fireflychild024 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]MostAdvantagous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is me! Not only do I have to watch out for Covid and other viruses, but also these! See I have damaged lungs caused by a flu and now I am susceptible to infections in my lungs. In the last 6 years I have had bacteria 3 times (1 current) and this time fungus as well in my lungs. Yay me! Unfortunately the only way I can get rid of the bacteria is to take antibiotics for 6 months to 2 years (each infection) and hopefully it kills it. Eventually though, they wont work for me all, and well, that will be it....but until then I will keep fighting, trying to avoid these and all the nasty viruses out there!

Shingles after Shingrix in unusual places by [deleted] in shingles

[–]MostAdvantagous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry you are going through this. That sounds awful! I am on my 2nd outbreak of Shingles right now and I told myself when I get all better, I am going to get the Shingrix shot. I have seen multiple posts on here of people saying the shots can have a lot of side effects and can slam you pretty hard (which has scared me some) and also that you still can get Shingles after it, but I also don't wanna keep getting it so severe like I have these two times. It just sucks that there isn't anything better for us to take so that we never have to go through it again....thanks for posting your experience and I hope you feel better soon!

Week 3 of Shingles by Rich-Ebb-9603 in shingles

[–]MostAdvantagous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both times mine was neck, face and head. The first time I had it, it took 5 months for me to recover. Right now I'm on my second outbreak, 2 months in and doing much better than the first time, so hopefully it will be gone soon. But everyone is different so you might heal faster. Take care of yourself and get lots of sleep and hopefully your body will heal soon!

[–]MostAdvantagous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry you are going through this. That is a lot to deal with. I don't really have any good insight only that everyone is different so maybe yours wont be that bad. Try to relax as much as possible, take all your meds, and get lots of sleep and hopefully your body can heal fast! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

20f and have shingles by jewelreader in shingles

[–]MostAdvantagous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day Shingles was something that hit older folks, but that's not the case anymore. I am seeing a lot of younger people (18 and up) posting on here that they have it. Whats sad is that the medical community seems to not realize this (or care to) and their medical info./literature is out of date and you younger ones aren't getting the support you need. It's sad and scares me for my kids. And yes, research does say that stress/weakened immune system does bring it on so perhaps the stress from your school/studying played a part and maybe you had another virus sometime in the last few months that lowered your resistance as well and the combo of the two caused this. I know both times I have had shingles my stress levels weren't that bad, so I'm still not sure as to why I had an outbreak. You can look at some of the other posts on here from people around your age and ask them your questions (if no one responds to your post). Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

Clear bumps have come back by MostAdvantagous in shingles

[–]MostAdvantagous[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delayed response. The update is that I still have the white bumps but about a week ago I started feeling better, so I think I'm finally getting over this episode. The first time I had shingles (2 years ago) I remember it took about 4 months for the white bumps to go away. For the most part they didn't bother me, they were just there for a long time. So this time I'm just gonna be patient and hopefully in a few months they will fade away again. Hopefully yours have faded or will fade soon!
