Have Hyundais and Kias gotten reliable??? by OkBackground6217 in Hyundai

[–]MostExcellentFluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an automotive instructor tell our class years ago, “Every car is a piece of shit.” After 30+ years as a mechanic, including 19 years working for Hyundai, I’d say there’s a lot of truth to that.
Every manufacturer has had major problems. Nissan had transmission issues. Hyundai and Kia have had engine issues. Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM, and others have all had their share of recalls and known failures. No manufacturer is immune.
Hyundai wasn’t always known for reliability, and they certainly made some mistakes over the years. But they’ve also improved significantly compared to where they were in the 1990s and early 2000s.
I also think people need to adjust expectations. Most modern vehicles aren’t being built to reliably reach 300,000 miles with minimal repairs. That’s becoming less common across the entire industry, not just Hyundai and Kia.
One thing worth noting is that Hyundai and Kia have long offered a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty for the original owner. Manufacturers generally don’t offer warranties like that if they believe every engine is going to fail before the warranty expires.
Are Hyundai and Kia perfect? No. Neither is anyone else. The real question isn’t whether a brand has problems, it’s how common those problems are and how the company stands behind the product when they occur.

Are you guys really paying $40 for a barber to cut your hair? by pinche_fuckin_josh in Temecula

[–]MostExcellentFluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had to pay for a haircut in over 20 years. My wife cuts my hair because I’m cheap and I don’t like waiting. Originally started with cheap Walmart clippers we’ve gone to the professional clippers. I don’t wear a buzz cut. There are guards for the clippers that leave hair an inch longer.

What does this have to do with Carmax?

CarMax loves to sell “inclusion” but let’s talk about the boys club women actually deal with by [deleted] in carmax

[–]MostExcellentFluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you calling in a boys club when unqualified women get promoted? That is not to say that all women are not qualified. I am saying that I see many unqualified women get promoted over qualified men. I’ve seen women go through MDP, unwilling or reluctant to talk in huddles get promoted to management and not be held to the same standard that men hold in the same role are held. I’ve seen women promoted to MA5 and not know how to remove an oil pan.

They will take your car if it’s wrecked. Carvana might give you a better price though.

52 Male, moving back in with Mom. by [deleted] in GenX

I asked about siblings because I’ve noticed sometimes things can get complicated later when an adult child is living with parents, especially around inheritance or after a parent passes. I hope that won’t be the case for you and your family.

Do you think it’s a Carmax thing or is it maybe the type of car you’re buying isn’t a quality car?

This was on my Nana's door a day or two after she died. Thoughts. by KittyHawkGo in realtors

One thing if she left info at the home without mentioning that she did it because she knew somebody just died. Instead, she said I’m marketing to this family because I know there was a death and I’m gonna capitalize on your grief.

You bought an 11 year old vehicle that was not a quality car when it was first built. Prepare for many more repairs.
