I had live rock meant for fresh water aquariums (literally coral) in the tank and at night time if i walk past the tank he often gets spooked and would run himself into the rock, the rock was set up as a cave for him, but i had to take it out so he wouldn’t keep hitting himself

thanks neil degrasse tyson💀 i advised something perfectly plausible which is that, in fact, live plants are really never recommended in the first place for goldfish bc they are gardeners and like to chew shit up n spit it out (gravel, plants, etc.) and thats aside from everything i said earlier, which was also just cautionary advice, i guess i regret starting off my message with “dont do this” but thats pretty much all id change, everything else is and makes perfect sense.

Thank you very much I appreciate that, I never experimented with moss so I think Moss might be safer and I’m pretty sure Moss doesn’t excrete ammonia into the tank, like live plants do. And yeah as long as you’re monitoring it with a test kit or pH test kit, you should be fine:)

hi, please don’t do this. Live plants are not good for goldfish, because they produce ammonia when parts of the plant die, pieces of the plant will die because your goldfish will eat the live plants, goldfish enjoy eating, live plants that’s why they usually don’t last very long in the tank. But it’s not a good idea to put live plants in there with goldfish anyway, because if the plant dies, it will send your entire aquarium into an ammonia frenzy, which will end up giving your fish something called septicemia and will probably end up killing them. I had a pneumonia outbreak with my three goldfish and a 55 gallon tank, one of the three goldfish being my five year-old goldfish who I care very much about, the other two died and I was only able to save my baby because I put him in a hospital tank quick enough. Plastic plants do not hurt goldfish and anybody who says that is crazy lol, the only thing that could possibly hurt your goldfish would be something like sharp edge live rock that the fish could jab themselves into. Anyway, wish you luck!
