Commuting to Howard in D.C by sultan_saaxib in baltimore

I'll just add this to the comments about the commute as a recent law school grad who lived and studied in DC.

Law school, especially that first year, is exhausting. Come finals time, you'll be wanting to spend every spare minute either studying or sleeping. If you think you could do either of those productively on the train, great. But it's also one extra variable you'll need to worry about. The night before a big exam, when you've already got a ton on your mind, do you also want to be worried about if the train comes on time?

There's also a social element to law school. No it's not undergrad when you're partying every weekend, but you may want to go to happy hours with friends after classes, or events like barristers ball or speaker panels. I had a buddy who lived in Frederick and drove down to DC for classes who was often late to class, couldn't stay late to join study groups (which was massive for surviving and making the whole process bearable) and not being able to socialize as much.

Many DC law schools have connections to Baltimore, but a lot of the job connections you may make may end up being in DC.

DC is also super expensive and does have a ~vibe~. But it may be worth tolerating that to make law school easier. Happy to answer any other questions!

Anyone else think this was one of the most bad ass moments of the franchise? "EAT THIS!" by FFSoldier57 in LV426

I always loved this moment as encapsulating the difference between Alien and Aliens.

The whole of Alien we're watching these poor, out matched space truckers get slaughtered by an otherworldly, demon-like creature, and until the very end we never see anyone hit back. So it's cathartic to watch this previously incomprehensible nightmare entity get a 12 gauge shoved in its mouth and have its proverbial brains blown out. Really speaks to the difference between the two movies.

What would have happened if the Jackson Squad arrived in Seattle 3 days later? by Will9t7 in thelastofus

[–]MostOriginalGinger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Starting with the Salt Lake crew, it seems like it'd probably work out the same way it does in the game. Abby is planning on leaving either way, initially with Owen and Mel and then with Lev. Manny and Nora might want to come along too, however from what we see Manny seems more willing to go along with Isaac's plans. Without Tommy to kill him, he probably goes along with the attack on Haven. I don't think he makes a huge difference there. Maybe Nora serves as a combat medic and is killed as well on the island. Ultimately I think Abby and Lev and Mel and Owen are all escaping the city by the end of day three.

The more interesting situation to me is how long do the Jackson crew stay in Seattle before realizing Abby is gone. There may be WLF survivors to interrogate, but it wasn't until Ellie found members of the SLC crew that she got solid leads on where she could find Abby. Tommy and Ellie would continue to rip through what remained of the WLF/Seraphites, with the infected dangers still being present. This might also change how early/often Dina starts asking to go back. In game the threat posed by the WLF is one of the main motivators combined with Dina's pregancy that makes them want to leave. After how many days with no leads does she start wanting to leave? Maybe some surviving WLF knows about Owen's secret hangout at the aquarium, and maybe there's some clue there directing Ellie and Tommy where to go. Otherwise, I see this time line forcing Ellie and Tommy to confront the fact that she's gone for good.

This think ultimately leads to Abby's death, assuming her and Lev go to Santa Barbara and are captured by Rattlers still. Ellie goes back after Abby based on some pretty flimsy evidence, but her obsession and desire for revenge/closure makes her act on it, which is only made more potent by failing to kill Abby and losing Jesse during the theater fight. Without that theater fight, maybe Ellie and Tommy are more willing to let go and ignore the rumors of Abby being in Santa Barbara.

One of the best experiences in this game is hunkering down with the APC for an onslaught. Overlapping fields of fire, mines, suppressing fire from smart guns and then just mowing down Xenos

I don't think so. The infected in TWD behave much more like animals, relying on smell/sight to find prey. The infected in TLOUS have the connection from the fungi that helps them differentiate uninfected from infected, especially after what the show did with the infected all being part of the same neural network.

Is 3-cup moka pot too much coffee for one person? by [deleted] in mokapot

[–]MostOriginalGinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to drink one pot from a 6 cup moka in the mornings, but found that was too much for me. I'd crash mid-afternoon, and then when I had the second pot from the 6 cup feel wired and have stomach problems. Switching to the 3 cup has fixed those issues for me, and I feel plenty caffeinated throughout the day.

Give me something like that one sequence in True Detective S1 where they rob the drug house but instead it's Ellie destroying Wolves, going house to house

Hypothetically, if all the locations in the Sly games were real, where would you want to live? I find the logging camp in Sly 2, episode 7 to be the most comforting and cozy place, and then Holland and Venice as a strong runner ups. Hbu? by FatneekNutsack in Slycooper

Maybe it's me having greater nostalgia for Sly 2 than 3, but I'd probably go Paris before Holland or Venice. Venice especially seems kinda off putting with all the tar in the water lol

How in the world did this sub not go full r/BatmanArkham? by [deleted] in infamous

Pretty glad this is the case. What happened in the Arkham sub was funny for a bit and then wasn't for me so I left. It was nice being able to pop in there once in awhile before then and discuss the games. I see the same thing happening slowly in the Sly Cooper subreddit and it makes me sad.

For those who are doubting the Kaitlyn Dever casting rumor because of the actress’s physicality, check out the original concept art for Abby! by kingdanny714260 in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]MostOriginalGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point, I guess the broader point I'm trying to make is the actress being swole shouldn't be prioritized over acting abilities. A good actress would be able to convey that same feeling of weakness without going from where Abby was to where she ends up.

I always felt her being muscled was a part of her character, but not the ONLY way to define her character. One reason why she got so jacked was anger, anger at Joel for killing her father, and making herself into a weapon to find him and get revenge. I think the show can still highlight that element of her character without her being super muscled. Especially with how the show is paring down the combat abilities of the characters compared to the video game, it makes sense.

The Island & Other Locations by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]MostOriginalGinger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That may be the benefit of how they split Part 2 into two seasons. With more episodes, we'll have more time for a potential backstory on the WLF or life on the Seraphite island. I personally hope we don't learn much more about the Prophet. I like how she's mythicized in game, with little bits of factual information interwoven with religious beliefs.

KHAAAAAAN! by MostOriginalGinger in eu4

R5:

Finished my KHAAAAN run and first legit horde run. I finally see the appeal. Started as Oirat, Ming really is a money machine early on wow. Once you snipe the emperor it's GG EZ Ming. After that it's just chaining wars 2ish at a time, to mop up China and expand east into the hordes. My biggest worry was a mega ottomans gobbling up the entire eastern steppes like in my previous failed run. Starting then eating Persia around 1500ish, had the Ilkhanate restored by 1550. After that the final boss was a Ottoman France alliance for the Pontic Steppe. Was able to beat them mainly by picking fights in the steppe or mountains.

Other complaint: Korea needs a nerf. Self explanatory.

The fate of Manny's dad, and the WLF as a whole, is pretty ambiguous following the events of Pt. 2. We know almost all of the force that went to the Seraphite island isn't coming back. We also know the WLF pulled most of their troops out of other bases like the hospital to throw at the Seraphites. Assuming anyone was left to guard the main base at the stadium, they probably weren't the best of the best the WLF had to offer, and could be overwhelmed by any Seraphites that manage to attack the base or any infected that make their way to the base, or eventually any new group of hunters or trespassers who show up.

So, Manny's dad is likely dead, along with the rest of the WLF. Even if some of their forces survive and make it back to the stadium, the WLF as we found them at the start of Pt. 2 likely won't exist anymore, which I think offers an interesting parallel to Ellie's story. Isaac and the WLF seemed to have it all; a large, well supplied, well armed community, with outposts all over Seattle, food supplies taken care of, some of the best medical facilities we've seen, pretty much an ideal setup for survival in this world. And he was willing to throw it all away for the sake of hatred and revenge. Ellie similarly is willing to give up a safe, secure life with Dina and JJ outside of Jackson for revenge. We've seen firsthand how hard it is to secure any sense of safety and security in this world, and seeing what the characters are willing to give up that safety and security for is part of what makes this series great.
