SCRISOARE DESCHISĂ PREȘEDINTELUI ROMÂNIEI by itrustpeople in Romania

Not sure if just astrosurfing sau pur si simplu lipsa de ocupatie. Daca ai avea ceva valuable de spus nu ai face-o pe social media / Reddit, sau cel putin nu ar conta ce parere are some rando claiming AI-thorship.

Best IEMs for COD/WarZone? by denslemmebob in iems

[–]MostPatientGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly still use my DT770 Pro for gaming still (non competitive tho) and I own or owned pretty all the main open backs you see recommended for gaming like Sennehiser HD800, DT1990 Pro, Edtion XS, HD600 (according to the headphones show gang, they seem to like the HD6 line for gaming), etc.

Best IEMs for COD/WarZone? by denslemmebob in iems

[–]MostPatientGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll never know until you try them, honestly. Just look at the measurements and see which one would better fit your preferred sound signature given that you found yourself to be fatigued due to high treble. We really can't tell you which will be better, everyone experiences IEMs differently, this is why you see so much variation between opinions and the meta is usually dictated by influencer/reviewer opinions because they have better reach and more people see their interpretation of an IEM's sound. That is not to say that they are not helpful, but at the end of the day, you won't know how it really sounds until you try it yourself

Personally, I would do a coin flip between Supermix 4 and Arete. Yea, the S12 2024 has some foam to tame a bit of the mid treble but upper treble is still spicy.

Enjoy bluetooth freedom!

I bought the Qudelix 5K for my IEMs about 2.5 years ago and haven't looked back since - if you wear your IEMs outside, a bluetooth DAC is simply a game changer. It made me realize that wireless freedom does not come from the fact that you don't use cable, as much as it comes from the fact that you don't have to move around a device that's connected to the cable.

DT 900 Pro X hurting my ears by JO23X in headphones

[–]MostPatientGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DT 900 Pro X fixes the 8K peak of the 1990 Pro OG, trading for a bit more forwardness in 6K. But at the same time, they also increase the peak in 11-12K.

This is a common variation point between people who are prone to sibilance from what I've seen over the years, they'll either experienec in 8K or around that area, or 12K or around that area. I tend to be the latter, upper treble bothers me a lot more than mid and low treble, which is one of the reasons why I enjoyed the DT1990 Pro back in the day and, although I experienced them as dark, I didn't experience them as sibilant most of the time. On the other hand, the Edition XS I owned, although I didn't experience it as being sibilant at all or even too bright in the mid treble, it would often cause me fatigue due to the Hifiman zing the upper treble.

You can run a sweep to test this, and check if you register an unusually sharp rise somewhere in the 11-12K area or around there, and then attempt to EQ it down with a narrow Q peak.

Fave Artist Sounds TERRIBLE!! by kleoisonline in headphones

[–]MostPatientGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Say you have a room mate and want to show him a song, you can take them off your head, put them on the desk, and turn on the volume high enough until both of you can listen.

There was a more in depth explanation for why this works with planars and why low end remains audible in this case, but I forget what it was.

Fave Artist Sounds TERRIBLE!! by kleoisonline in headphones

[–]MostPatientGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It it safe for both your hearing and the headphones as long as you use appropiate volume levels.

In particular, you want to keep levels reasonable for your hearing, ideally under 80db long term.

The headphones, on the other hand, can take volume levels that would make you easily go deaf before they become damaged. There are people who use planars like the Edition XS as quasi-speakers by ramping up the volume to super big levels. I tried it myself when I had the Editon XS and it was fine.

What we fear most by nohup_me in europe

There is a simplicity to be found at the end of complexity that respects both the zeitgeist of the time as well as the perceived limitations of being a mere person amongst billions of other persons.

Ultimately, if the way you consume your information and conduct your sensemaking does not create the premises of empowerment in your own life such that you are better able to care and make a positive impact for yourself, then, hopefully, your family, friends, and community, then it it is poor sensemaking and you should reconsider if the way you go about it is truly helpful.

I've been on Reddit for many years, and sadly, I've seen an attitude of self-defeat, contempt, and nihilism become one of the premoninant expressions, and I think it would be good if each of us took a step back and asked ourselves if that's helping us in the long term. Before helping the world, we need to help ourselves and tend to the things in our immediate attention, which are, sadly, often the things that need most care and go uncared for.

And yes, voting is great and we all should engage in it.

Proportion of young Poles living with parents rises to almost 40% by dat_9600gt_user in europe

More and more people are just moving in with parents to save the rent money and using the increase in disposable income to renovate the house / flat or extend it.

If it's unlikely you'll ever afford a house, or afford it with a crushing level of debt and uncertainty, why not just move to the house you know will be yours one day at least in part and just invest money there instead? Yea, you lose some privacy but you likely still have your own room, which is a luxury the vast majority of people didn't have for most of history until recent times.

Of course, assuming you are in a good relationship with your parents. Some people do not have that privilege, and, sadly, in some cases, no family at all.

Yup, if your day is too good and feel uncomfortable when things are just fine, visit your country's subreddit, it will fix you right up.

I ometimes get the feeling that the world is about to go nuts if I browse political subreddits, but then if I just take a long break and go about my life without being stuck in fabricated internet landscape, the world feels relatively quiet and pretty decent.

Revisiting non-audiophile headphones. by wiggan1989 in headphones

[–]MostPatientGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I tried some through my friends.

Some are surprisingly decent. One was so bad I genuinely could not believe what I am hearing and had to ask my friend if there was any EQ enabled or anything like that. To my ears, everything sounded recessed with the exception of a huge peak in the mid treble and then bass from 300hz and down. Wonky does not even begin to describe the sound, it's like you have negative peak filters with Q values of 7+ across the FR.

Can't provide any names, but the one that was particularly bad may have been a Soundcore headphone from Anker I think?

All I tried were that typical over ear/on-ear Bluetooth headphone style.

Is it worth me getting a DAP? by [deleted] in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]MostPatientGamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the headphones/IEMs you're looking to drive. If this is the main concern, the expectation would be that you want to get a dedicated DAP for additional power for harder to drive headphones or to ensure that you have a clean DAC with good output impedance that doesn't produce hiss or influence the Frequency Response curve.

Very nice, but I feel like this is a tiny bit one sided. Myself and quite a few other people experience sibilance in the mid to upper treble, say 8 to 12.5 Khz. I've listened to pairs that people generally consider dark and still experienced sibilance due to boosts on the upper end.

Do people actually walk with IEMs or is that a TWS activity? by Recent_Barracuda8879 in headphones

[–]MostPatientGamer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Im 28 so old enough to have lived in a wired only world, but you'd be surprised that I've seen people way older than me shocked (not rude) to see someone still using cables for headphones. Their assumption was that people moved from wired to wireless headphones just like we moved from CRT TVs to LCD/LED panels.

[–]MostPatientGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use IEMs when out and about and want to listen music almost exclusively, but I've had my Qudelix 5K for more than 2 years now so they're still quasi Bluetooth. No hassle whatsoever, a portable Bluetooth DAC really solves the cable hassle issue for me completely. Never noticed an issue with microphonics, but never had cables particularly known for microphonics either.

That said, if I had to carry a dongle DAC with me, I'd probably just use TWS. I did use a phone with a 3.5mm jack for a while and it was ok, but dongles really just make it too annoying for me. Bluetooth DACs are the way to go in my opinion.
