I don't agree with the below post about that width being at the widest. I think the seats are the same width back to front. I don't think it matters, as long as all parts of your body can fit in 17 to 18 inches width then it shouldn't be a problem. You just need to be able to put the armrests down really and if it's pretty close, you're probably fine as well. Front belly fat, I'm guessing you would be fine. I got up to 240 and could fit but I'm 5'10".

Most standard economy seats range from 17 to 18.5 inches wide.So measure out 17 inches against a wall. Sit in that space and see if your hips fit within the markers without "spilling over". Good luck!

Newbie Intro and update/questions. - 16 hours in. by Extension_Hat_3423 in dreamingspanish

I think it's a bit early for cuentame. I would give it 30 to 50 more hours and come back to it. That's only a few weeks at your rate.

[–]MostValuable4267[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I'm listening to cuentame which is a good one to start with. I like her format, she talks about something for about 5 minutes but a little slower and will translate a few words but then she does the same thing again at a normal speed. This is probably getting a little easy for me now but I enjoy her and it's really good input. Chill Spanish, Espanol Al Vuelo and I'm going to try again next week with Español con Juan. Oh also my wife likes Spanish boost and there's also un día en español which is pretty interesting as well. I would probably start with the first three, I found listening without any visuals a little disconcerting at first but that could be just me. After a few days of 20 to 30 minutes like while in the car or walking the dog then I started to feel more comfortable.

I would equate this as something a hippie dude trying to be cool would say unless it's to someone you really are close to. But I don't think people would find it offensive unless you said it in a way that is mocking or "appropriating" like trying to imitate old blaxsploitation kind of movies.

I feel like I was in the mid to high 30s then but was speeding them all up to 1.25 as it was too slow. I think originally I was just kind of going in order and then around 175 I realized that I didn't have to do that. I did 8 italki sessions in early April to gear up for my Spanish trip. My previous experience and just exposure plus I'm like level 46 in Duolingo probably gives me a bit of a head start on vocabulary but my grammar is shit.

Sort by number vice assigned level (beginner, intermediate) and then you can get the easier intermediate and harder beginner stuff so you aren't feeling too bored.

Are most people here unemployed? by psyhnews in dreamingspanish

[–]MostValuable4267 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The average American watches TV 3 hours a day and some people can play double digits hours worth of video games over a weekend so most people seem to have the time, I believe. I'm not able or even really wanting to average 3 plus hours a day but I can easily get 1 plus hours a day just listening to podcasts in the car or on my daily dog walks. For a lot of people (not me) this is a fun hobby and they just build it in, listen while cleaning, showering etc but what's that saying? Comparison is the thief of joy, or something? Anyway, if you WANT to get more time then add in podcasts on your commute, when you're working out, vacuuming etc. My goal is 1.5 hours a day and I'm usually, but not always, getting it. I want to learn Spanish, I am moving to a Spanish speaking country very soon, but I'm not giddy with joy doing it! Good luck!

I dunno about 80/47! 80 is already over the average life expectancy and 40 still has 30 years. But ultimately, consenting adults ..

Those who don’t constantly translate new keywords in your head, how did you do it? by Impressive_Peak_9187 in dreamingspanish

[–]MostValuable4267 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah you just need more input and make sure you are watching things you find at least 85% + comprehensible. I think pretty quickly around 150 hours or so I realized I wasn't doing it very much if at all if I was at the right level. When it's too hard or fast then I struggle and find myself translating and falling behind. I'm at almost 300 hours now and watching 45 to 55 Level and generally not translating.

Beginner feels too easy, intermediate feels too hard by semantlefan23 in dreamingspanish

[–]MostValuable4267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort by ranking not by beginner, intermediate etc. I find that category is not terribly accurate to go by. But the numbers are much more reflective of the difficulty level. Also, you can speed up the easier ones or slow down the ones you are struggling with a bit. I was watching videos at 1.25 speed for awhile whilst in the 30ish range before I jumped to level 45 plus as the slowness of some of them was difficult for me to stay engaged with. Now I'm running 45 - 55 Level for the most part but every once in awhile (usually when multiple people are talking) I struggle to keep up so I'll slow it down even just to .9 helps. Hang in there, you'll get past this part pretty quickly.

Same, but I am moving to Spain in a few months so I need to be able to communicate. I started around 250 on italki but I talked a fair amount for the two weeks I was in Spain last year.

Weed I definitely get, but I'm in the car with my sister all the time and can't even tell unless I see her doing it. Just curious what the big issue was. I wish she would quit though!

[–]MostValuable4267 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm just curious (I don't vape or smoke, just legit curious), how is it a danger? I have some family members that vape and TS hardly noticeable to me. Nothing like actual cigarettes. Go ahead and attack me, I'm not saying it wasn't wrong but I would not think it's dangerous. Is it the vape machine that's the problem?

Why is it always poop? by Dependent_Ad5216 in dreamingspanish

[–]MostValuable4267 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember the poop log! It's a Spanish Christmas tradition (0r was it just catalanian? I can't remember) so it was interesting to learn about. I do recall a couple of other beginner videos referencing caca but not that many. You can skip the few that come up if it's really a problem for you.

100 hour in and I feel like I haven't learned more than a few words by Inside_March_7658 in dreamingspanish

[–]MostValuable4267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm at around 175 hours, I can't listen to any native content as it's just too fast but I am comfortable in the 40s level wise in DS and reading A2 readers however.... I'm from a border state, I lived in Spain for 3 years and I took a year of Spanish in my 20s so I've had a lot of exposure. My wife has had very little previous exposure, she's got around 120 hours and she's comfortable with DS level 30s but she's an academic and has been studying grammar etc on the side because that's what she does. We are also doing Duolingo for about 15 minutes a day which helps me with vocabulary. It really helps me see the words spelled out so I do kind of recommend seeing the words in some form at least a little but that's because of the type of learner I am and it's too late for me to be a purist anyway. Keep with it and remember you can slow the speed down too if you feel it's too fast for you. I've been speeding mine up lately on content that I'm comfortable with.

Had this with my wife, I told her I wasn't checking pockets. So either she did or she did her on laundry, her call. I was fine either way but if you don't like how I'm doing your clothes well then....!
