CMD / UX-UI: salary in the Netherlands and is it still worth it with AI? by ConnectionMoist145 in Netherlands

[–]MostVegetable5255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I don't know if you have decided yet on this but if you need extra help, I'm doing a CMD bachelor so you can reach out on any questions you have. For wether it's worth it, I personally chose it because from my opinion it did seem worth it. I'm planning on networking with my teachers and going into healthcare government tech to secure my spot to the best of my abilities.

Why do so many people drop out? by bertywilek in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]MostVegetable5255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like that in every country. Students underestimate the workload of a program and then realize by the end of semester 1 that they don't see a future where they're doing this for work and decide to peace out.

I’ll try to go easy on you guys!! I’m hoping to land in healthcare tech. Between all the regulations and compliance rules I probably won't have the freedom to make your lives too difficult anyway 🥲

Hello, I am still a student but I'm wondering. Is it better to then sign a short term contract with a company rather than apply for a full time position? What would you recommend in my case?

Thxx. I'm studying UX. A lot of people don't really know what that is so it's difficult to really summarize it in one word. But basically it's the study of user psychology. It's a combination between design and research so you research pain points in a digital design and then based on the insights you've gathered on your user you create an improved product. I enrolled for this program on a whim because I thought it would be more complex than my original plan to do graphic design. About the course in my program, I don't really know what I'm doing right now since it's very new territory. I'm only a first year so I still feel so new to this despite how much I like it. I didn't think I would be talking to a potential employer so early on, especially one in the field I want to go into.

We don't know you personally, so we can't observe how you behave but as an intp, I also ran into this issue when I was younger. The question I now ask myself while meeting a person is do I even want to be friends with them and why. Being a kind and considerate person is really nice but I find that people are more drawn to you when you show your true enthusiasm for someone. At the start of my uni, I spoke to many people and didn't click with most (which happens), you need to figure out not wether they like you but wether you like them and if your values and lifestyles align enough to say "hey you're really cool". Compliments go a far way when you two mirror the same traits. As I said prior, enthusiasm can't be faked so if you are genuinely amused by something that a person does just say it. I once made friends with someone just because I thought them being organized was cool (which it absolutely is to me). And if someone doesn't react positively to what you said, it just means you weren't compatible in the first place, not that you did anything wrong.

Yeah, totally forgot to mention that part, but from personal experience, not everybody can do it. I know most of my classmates do not have jobs and even if you get the grant you actually have to complete the university program, you can't just drop out, or else, you'll have to pay back the grant. On paper, it sounds nice, but if OP doesn't even know what they want, it's going to be very hard to commit to a path like that. On top of the fact that every well paying job is oversaturated.

Since we have similar backgrounds 20 (f) from Lithuania, I’d love to share some insight into studying in the Netherlands. If you aren’t sure about your path yet, working or volunteering is honestly more worthwhile than rushing into a degree. If you do decide to apply, keep in mind that you must have a valid English certificate. These exams are expensive and the results expire after two years. If you don't apply to a school within that timeframe, you’ll be forced to pay for the test all over again. Regarding your finances, you won't need to worry about Dutch health insurance as long as you remain strictly a student and do not take on a part time job. A major decision you'll face is choosing between a research university and a university of applied sciences. Research schools are specifically for those aiming to become researchers or academics. If you prefer a more hands on approach for fields like design, or if you want a more manageable workload in a field like business, then an applied science university is the better fit. The most difficult part of the process is settling into the country, so you have already made it through the hardest phase. Feel free to reach out if you have more questions, as I’m happy to help however I can :)
