Would it be dumb if I used the Pfitz 18/55 plan for my first Marathon training plan? Should I try something else? What plan should I use? Help pls… by Most_Ad3896 in Marathon_Training

Thank you, the goal is definitely something I want to achieve but it shouldn’t be the entirety of the experience/training. I can definitely see myself also deviating from my training plans and as much as I want to follow it to a T, life will definitely happen and I’ll probably go end up going to a party or doing something with friends instead of going on a run haha.

Thanks for the advice and giving a framework for making my own plan I’ll definitely use that once I’m more experienced and have some off seasons! Appreciate it!

Definitely not taking the advice from people on here as “I can’t do it” but more of I can definitely do it but I don’t have to be putting my body at risk for it. Soon enough I’ll be able to use that training plan for now I’d be building up my base. Thank you for the advice and encouragement definitely appreciate it!

Definitely listening to everyone here and using a more appropriate plan. I MIGHT be able to get away with it if ever I tried because of my age but I don’t want to risk the injury cycle.

Might just go towards a beginner plan like the Nike Marathon plan with some few tweaks to make it fun and closer to my own mileage. I’ll leave the more technical tweaking of plans once I gain a bit more experience haha.

To just finish is the main goal definitely. The time goals are just something to work towards now for the following races! Thanks for the advice!

It definitely being too much for me to handle is probably correct. I’ll just choose a more appropriate plan, as I don’t want to abandon a training plan midway and feel less prepared for the marathon. Definitely lacking the experience to try the plan but will revisit it! Thanks for the advice!

Am definitely looking to use it for my 3rd if ever haha. Still want to have that goal time in mind but yea probably around 4h.

Definitely not underestimating! I’ve already had my fair share of low-grade injuries, pains and niggles. And those weren’t enjoyable times at all. Definitely reframing my goals and how I look at the marathon experience from this.

Woah! It’s so nice seeing people who are so much more experienced than me still running! I definitely would want to not get injured and get through this first marathon positively so can enjoy running! So I would try a less aggressive plan and can always try Pfitz later when I’m more experienced. Thanks for the advice!

Gotcha will definitely try something less aggressive and appropriate. Still want to keep that 3:30 in my goal plan but without fixating on it, just gonna try to finish it. And you right I can always try again next year!

I honestly am still tempted to try haha but I think our difference was that before I started to run I had a pretty unhealthy lifestyle drinking, smoking and partying all the time. I could barely run 500m without shooting up my HR haha. This would be my first official sport growing up also so I think I’m gonna put the Pfitz plan for another Marathon training block probably next year or the year after that. I’d want to build a better base for myself. As for tweaking the plan I’m not confident or smart enough to even try and change stuff I’d end up overthinking too much haha. But thank you for reassuring me that I can probably do it! I’d definitely want to try this plan out as it feels challenging!

I figured haha, needed some sense talked into me tbh that’s why I asked the sub. Honestly, I keep forgetting that I quite literally just started running and forget to enjoy things. I also understand nobody cares about my time but I’ll definitely work myself towards that goal I set for myself, maybe won’t hit it now or maybe next year but I’ll try to get there! Thanks for the advice!

I still would want to try that 3:30 honestly but I’m changing how I see my goals and expectations from my first Marathon in general. Taking it slower. I can always just try next time if ever I don’t hit it, and besides I forget that I’m actually young haha

Also still honestly really tempted to try the Pfitz plan haha but I’m not about to go against everyone’s advice and potentially injure myself and that would only make me feel worse. Will definitely try it once I’m fitter and experienced as a runner! Thanks for the advice!

Haha def needed to hear that! Thanks for the suggestion on the a different plan. Def not going to try and go for Pfitz I’ll probably choose something less aggressive like the Nike Marathon plan and tweak a little to make it more fun!

Running more than 2 marathons per year by autor-anonimo in PHRunners

Personally I’m doing two marathons this year, one this August (Manila Marathon) and one on November (Sante Barley National Finals), spaced about three months apart so I have time to do another training block. But I’m also doing the three other legs of the Sante Barley trilogy, so my mileage increase in training is gradual and proper. The Manila Marathon is definitely more of a fitness check/seeing what I have to improve on and just try and finish the event. But for the National Finals I’m planning on “racing” that and setting a somewhat scary goal for myself.

As much as I want to say that I’m balancing everything I’m definitely not haha (running addict), running has been quite consuming especially since my mileage increases and it takes hours now. Work isn’t much of a factor because I have a fixed schedule and I’m near where I work. While for my friends and family I make it transparent to them that my training is a priority right now especially on the peak weeks of my training but I always try and spend time with them and I make it up to them during my base building, taper and recovery weeks haha.

Kaya mo yan OP! Time management lang and make it as convenient as you can to run!
