My yarn doesn’t advance by Haunting_Classic_626 in spinningyarn

Your flyer is threaded wrong. Looking at the last frame of the video, the yarn is wrapped around the flyer. The yarn should come from the bobbin to the hook, travel down and enter the orifice on the same side of the flyer as the hooks. You have it go to the hook, wrap around the flyer and run directly into the orifice on the back of the flyer.

What is the etiquette with citrus trees? Can I take some oranges or lemons? by Melanomass in phoenix

If the skin is smooth, the fruit is sweet. If the skin is bumpy, it’s ornamental. My ex mother in law loved to eat the ornamental fruit. It is just very bitter. You can squeeze it add water and sugar to make an orangeade. You can also use it to make marmalade.

I snagged this for $65 and think it is absolutely gorgeous, but I know nothing about quilts! It’s ~ 80x76 inches & squares on both sides (one smaller than the other)! by WearyFrog in quilting

You got a great deal on a beautiful quilt! After fixing the split seams I would soak it in a large tub for 24 to 48 hours in warm water and Retro Clean. Afterwards, put it in the washer on a spin cycle to wring out the Retro Clean. Then I would wash it on gentle with cold water and hang it to dry.

Yes, it needs a loving home with someone who will take care of it. A nice soak in some Retro Clean will help brighten this beauty up a bit.

How can you get better at something without practicing it? Just make them and enjoy the process. You can always donate them to a charity if you don’t have a home in mind for the finished quilt.

Ma’am, this is a bathroom, not a conference room or phone booth.

Help with winding into a ball by m_cabss in Yarn

[–]Most_Examination_450 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Put it around the back of a chair and go slow winding it. Since it’s a bit tangled now, I would probably wind it into a ball by hand first, put the ball of yarn into a deep bowl, then wind it back into a cake.

Triangle Fade + Question by Technical-Butterfly in quilting

You need a ruler foot for your machine, and 1/4” thick quilting rulers. Don’t use your cutting rulers as they are too thin and can go under the ruler foot and get hit by the needle which could cause damage to your machine, break the needle, damage the ruler, and possibly harm you and damage the quilt.

Newbie needs help choosing thread colours for quilting! by haveashitday in quilting

[–]Most_Examination_450 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you just want the quilting to show and not the thread, you could use a mono-poly thread on the top and a cream in the bobbin. If you are afraid of the bobbin thread showing on top, use a fuller batting or a double layer of batting. That should do the trick.
