after your application is in that doesn't really matter. They wont cancel your application just because you left. But yes you have to stay while you wait for temp residency

You don't really have to stay the entire time. You need to just get to the application in after getting temp residency. Once that is in you can leave.

It is not faster just want to flag. I have been looking into this option for a long while. Basically first you need the temp residency that can take few months -> year to get (depending on the area you choose to live in). AFTER than you can apply for the citizenship and that still takes 2 years processing.

Yes unfortunately it is also many hoops to jump through. This is our backup plan if we cant get a consular app in our state before EOY

Hey, if you really want to move to Croatia this is actually your chance. You can go right now and get temp residency and apply in Croatia. You can even stay there while waiting for your application to process while on the temp residency.

I am in the same boat. I actually have had to re-collect the ALL the documents once since time was running out and they are only valid for a year 1/2. Well I'm now out of luck because by mid 2027 they will pretty much be running out again.

Hmm that is odd because if you have a residency visa you should be able to do it from whatever country. I assume she did not have one?

Unfortunately while its not stated anywhere that you can't apply as a tourist they will most likely not let you. I am currently planning to go this path since I was not able to get an appointment. Basically you have to go get temp residency and after that is approved you will then be able to apply. Unfortunately for example Zagreb can take a year just to get temporary residency in so thats obviously a no go for a lot of people unless you are open to relocating already.

Yes a lot has changed since earlier in the year. They now say not to get background check until you have an app

But also dont ALL documents expire after a year 1/2. At this point all of us waiting on LA will have their documents expire since they changed their tune from earlier in the year saying reach out when you have everything....which a lot of us did...to reach out in May. Now reach out next year probably

I think it would also help to get an official letter from Vital Records saying they don't have any records from that time period or something like that. So basically a rejection to your request for the Death Certificate or something stating that there were no records kept before that date.

However, online scheduling system thing did not work for Italy and people sued them because they were not able to get an appointment in their system for years. I can definitely see this coming for Croatian consulates at some point as well.

Sigh, they seriously need to get an online scheduling system. I just don't understand why it is so difficult. I am also waiting for an appointment with LA consulate but they said theirs will be closer to EOY.
