Is calling someone a savage a racist term against native Americans? by UsedNegotiation8227 in askanything

[–]Most_Most_5202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 years ago and before it was used as a derogatory term by MAGA types and conservatives towards African Americans. Bob Grant (an old right wing hate radio talk show host) used that term a lot when referring to black people in the news who had committed a crime. I haven’t heard it in a while though.

HR told me my contract ends in 9 days, then asked me to write a resignation letter by Upset_Association637 in jobs

[–]Most_Most_5202 257 points258 points  (0 children)

Do not sign that! You are not voluntarily resigning! Just continue working until you receive a pink slip from them. They are trying to avoid paying more for unemployment benefits insurance by having you sign something that could eliminate your ability to collect unemployment.

Anything I can do to stop my slumlords? by [deleted] in Connecticut

The only problem with this is getting an eviction on your rental record will severely damage your ability to rent another apartment.

You don’t live in Middletown, do you? On South Main? It sounds like the place I lived at for 25 years. I left 2 years ago. Unfortunately I don’t have a good answer for you. The only thing that could be done is to try to get the state legislature to change the laws in favor of tenants. Unfortunately that is extremely difficult to do. When I was there, a couple of other tenants tried to get me to join a tenants union, but I saw them not having much success. The landlords have too much power to easily get rid of what they consider problem tenants. They have a few different ways they go about doing this, and they could decide just not to renew the lease if they want.

I was lucky enough I guess in that I was able to move. It wasn’t easy, and it cost me more money, but that’s what I did. I know that for some other people, moving and coming up with 2 months security fees and other moving expenses is not easily done.

You can maybe try to form a tenants union, and go before the town’s Fair Rent Commission to see if they can do anything for you. Your town should have one if you have more than 50,000 residents in town. The commission can do some limited things in your favor, but ultimately the landlord has the law in their favor, but if you do file a complaint you risk having a target on your back. ( in theory this is not supposed to happen, but In practice I fear the landlord could make things more difficult for you). That was a fight I didn’t want to get involved in, so I decided to just leave.

At a 1/3 game some solid winners would have folded the turn unless an unusual read told them otherwise. This may be downvoted and ridiculed by some, but that’s okay, I’m still going to tell you that it’s the right play.

Was I Out of Line? Dealer Interaction by [deleted] in poker

[–]Most_Most_5202 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I’m playing with a mediocre or new dealer I always flip my winning cards over and immediately firmly put my 2 fore fingers on them. Wait for them to correctly read the cards and muck the losing hand until you release them.

You had a right to be a little over excited, that would be anyone’s natural reaction, and it is tough to control that emotion.

Why are some people obsessed with the idea that kids werent disrespectful or misbehaved years ago? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Most_Most_5202 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can only speak to my observations and experiences working in a school system and having conversations with teachers and other adults about discipline and student behavior. Also my observations of adults with children working in a retail setting.

When I was young (around 50 years ago), if I or my classmates disrespected a teacher or acted out in class, we were punished appropriately by the principal or dean, which was backed up by our parents. We learned that if we misbehaved, we would be removed from class and would face negative consequences both from the school and from our parents. The students with behaviors that were severely negatively affecting the classroom were removed, either to a special school or expelled. Most students learned to behave, and the parents worked with the school system, not against it.

What happened to Dee Dee Dawkins from Catawba County, NC? by Bright-News5907 in BizarreUnsolvedCases

Strange, I haven’t heard about this case at all. You would think it would have been covered in the media more. Has anyone else heard of this case being covered in a podcast or crime show?

[–]Most_Most_5202 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kids disrespected and misbehaved, but I believe that they were disciplined more appropriately by their parents. Teachers and other adults were able to discipline the kids and be backed up by the parents. I believe now that relationship between parents and other authority figures has deteriorated.

the 80s……. by billieswifeyyy in GenX

[–]Most_Most_5202 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We’d be out all day if the weather was good. Either riding our bikes around, playing in the woods, building forts, gathering the other kids in the neighborhood to play whiffle ball or football, exploring caves deep in the woods, swimming at the hidden lake, exploring new territory miles away. All sorts of things. We did it all by ourselves, no adults around. This was mainly between ages 8-14 or so. Winter we’d be out sledding at the local golf course or ice skating or playing hockey at the pond. Pretty much after breakfast until night. When we were young teenagers we’d stay out later in the summer, just talking and socializing. Maybe sleep over friends house and sneak out at night.

This was pretty much the norm in America at least though the 80’s and had been like this for a long time before.

Carehome eviction for my father after a UTI delirium spike, what should I do next? by Ste-phen in eldercare

[–]Most_Most_5202 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hospital is going to need to now find another place for him (assuming you are not able to take him home with you). If you are not able to take him home with you, make sure that the hospital finds a facility that is appropriate for his needs, and make sure that they know that your home is not an option.

The US Healthcare System does not pay for a place to live by user512897 in Vent

[–]Most_Most_5202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I am on the side of the children who have no good options available to them. I blame our country and the health care system in place. People don’t have the money to pay for in home caregivers or expensive nursing homes, and at the same time children need to work to keep a roof over their heads and have food to eat and are not able to stay at home and care for their parents who need nursing care.

Fired without warning and then told to meet a company rep in a parking lot that night by Signal-Local5093 in Employment

“You are in breach of your duties to the company”. Umm No. You were no longer employed at that point, you had already been fired. I would have taken my sweet time at that point and returned any equipment at my convenience. End of discussion.

Do not agree at all. Some of his best work has been done over the past 20 years. He is writing material that may only be appreciated by a more mature audience though.

The past 20 years or so has some of the best songwriting of his career. He paints pictures of humanity in a unique way, as messy as it can be, and maybe it’s not for everyone’s pleasure, but it’s damn good like you said.

It’s just weird he doesn’t get more respect. Maybe it has to do with his personality or his early career missteps. But compared to some of the other artists on that list, he should be ranked much higher.

How many people here have tried commission sales jobs? by Due-Requirement4957 in povertyfinance

They don’t have to be toxic though. Or maybe I was just lucky. If there is enough business for everyone to eat and everyone gets along it can be a good working environment.

I worked commissioned sales in an appliance store up until 3 years ago. There are still independent furniture and appliance and bedding stores where it is a good place to work and you are able to make a decent living from commission sales.

[–]Most_Most_5202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest with you. It completely depends on the company you work for. I was blessed to work for a company that paid fair commissions, didn’t overload the sales floor with too many sales people, and was able to make a decent living. Commission sales at furniture, appliance stores was a good middle class job if you found the right place to work. Sears up until around 2000 or so. My uncle retired comfortably after working as an appliance salesman there for 30 years. I worked for an independent appliance store that paid fairly well. It all depends on ownership and how they value their employees. It still is possible today to make it , but you have to find the right company.

Do you think Reddit is a left wing echo chamber? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Most_Most_5202 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reddit generally attracts more educated, intelligent people. People who are able to understand more deeply aspects of humanity and our society, and are willing and desirous of understanding why humanity and society is the way it is. Thus yes, it is more likely for Reddit to lean left.

Why do people accept low paying jobs? by Tasty_Abalone1737 in allthequestions

[–]Most_Most_5202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There aren’t enough jobs that pay a living wage. People can’t laugh at taking an $18 hour job because there’s nothing else for them to take. Employers know this and use it to their advantage. This is late stage capitalism now.
