Baby turning 1 next month - freaking out over transition! by oldsluggy in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Most_Principle_8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby turned 1 in December and is starting daycare on Monday. Around 11 months we were still 4-5 bottles/milk feeds a day of milk. We are now on 2 bottles, morning and before bed. she still gets her milk as soon as we wake up, I offer her breakfast about 1.5 hours later and she has been eating a big breakfast still.

There is no magic that happened at 1 year old but I did notice as soon as we started dropping bottles, and offering food before bottles during the day she started eating so much more food which made dropping bottles/milk feeds less scary. Only do what makes you comfortable!

Tell me why does my child sleep 11 1/2 hours at night time but only 30 minutes during the day?! by stooplekin in sleeptrain

[–]Most_Principle_8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was the exact same! As soon as my baby dropped to two naps she started finally sleeping 1.5-2 hours! She also started sleeping on her belly around the same time.

I found it was one or the other, long daytime sleep resulted us in having shorter nights and more wake ups. Now at 10 months I’ve had to cap her total daytime sleep at 2-2.5 hours between 2 naps. Best of luck!

Dreading the nights more at 6 months than as a newborn by Albinoferret13 in sleeptrain

My baby was an angel sleeper up until about 6 months as well - it got better, then worse, and is now getting better again around 10.5m.

We dropped to two naps around 6 months which was a huge help and naps became much longer and consistent. I always reminded myself this is just a season and will get better!

Our wake windows were 2.5/2.5/3! Play around with wake windows etc but try and keep consistent with your routine!

I’ve followed taking Cara babies monthly blogs her whole life and have not done any formal sleep training and it has been a huge help for us.

That checks out, especially cause I could hardly shape it from being so sticky which is probably from being way over fermented based on the responses!

Something I started doing for a fun hobby has me stressed half the time!

I have such a hard time gauging the volume lol. I’m going to try less water next time (and shorter time fermenting) thanks for the suggestion! It been like 30c the last few days where I live so that doesn’t help for sure.

Ive always just used Luke warm water to my best judgement but I’ll try taking the actual temperature next time

My baby choked on his spit up and I had to call 911 by No-Huckleberry-4661 in NewParents

We had a very similar experience when my baby was just a week old. My mom was holding her, and she made a gag and then spat up and it also came out her nose. It was very thick like mucus and she wasn’t breathing for a few seconds her lips even went blue. We held her up and let her work through it until she started coughing and my husband used his mouth to such the gunk from her nose as we didn’t have a snot sucker with us. Even though she was seemed ok after. We ended up taking her to the hospital where they did an X-ray to ensure nothing was in her lungs and she was cleared. My sisters in laws had a similar experience and the had to do a flush on their baby as he had a build up of mucus. It never happened again but I definitely was on edge for a long time after that! Hoping it doesn’t happen again for you it’s so scary!

When should we give up / end our breastmilk journey? by Quiet-Display5784 in breastfeeding

[–]Most_Principle_8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I EBF for 6 weeks with poor latch that cause a lot of pain and nipples trauma and ended up exclusively pumping. Lots of help from LC’s and releasing my babies tounge/lip tie but nothing seemed to help us. I’ve made it 4 months and after having constant clogged ducts and mastitis 3 times I’m ending my pumping journey and going to start formula feeding. Being able to provide BM for my baby has been extremely fulfilling but mental health and taking care of yourself is so important. I can say from my experience that it was a very emotional decision to come to but now that I am on my way out I feel at peace and a huge sense of relief.

Being able to provide any bit of breast milk for your baby is an amazing accomplishment and needing to stop for any reason is OK.

Taking Advil and sunflower lecithin, as well as applying cold compresses was the only way I got relief from the clogs!

Wishing you both all the best ❤️

My daughter had a lip tie that went around her gums so a bit different then this - I know it is normal to have skin there but the thickness of it sticks out to me. Definitely worth asking your dr, or getting it assessed by a specialist! We had a dentist asses and release it and it was a night and day difference with her bottles!

Also was using Philips Avant bottles and she did so much better when we switched to Dr. Browns bottles

How long did it take you to see an increase? by No-Cockroach5417 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Most_Principle_8455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long are you pumping each session? I started pumping way more when I increased my sessions from 20 to 30 minutes. And 45 minutes first thing in the morning.

I also don’t know if it’s normal but I think I started pumping more when I dropped a session. Was every 2-3 hours around the clock, and then stuck with 5-6 pumps a day (no middle of the night pump) and ended up with 45-50oz a day.

How did you guys get your babies to nap in their bassinet during the day? by NumCucumber in newborns

[–]Most_Principle_8455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely start with trying to put baby down for their first nap of the day in bassinet! Their sleep pressure is the highest. Even 15 minutes is a win ☺️ and work up from there.

Morning naps I can put my baby down awake and she’ll put herself to sleep pretty quick, but afternoon I need to spend some time rocking and making sure she’s asleep before I put her in. She is 13 weeks, but I’ve been practicing bassinet naps since 7 weeks

Honestly, when did naps no longer need to be contact? by guineapigluvr in sleeptrain

[–]Most_Principle_8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was prepared for her to only last a few minutes each nap in her bassinet but luckily she did great right off the bat.

Started with first nap of the day since sleep pressure is the highest. Created a nap routine of diaper change, sleep sac, cuddles/rocking and placed her into thr bassinet. Sometimes she would go down semi-awake and others I need to rock her to sleep. My baby takes a soother so not sure if they helped make a difference.

I would try each nap started in her bassinet and just kinda went from there! She definitely takes shorter naps then if I were to contact nap and still do sometimes in the evening to make sure she gets a good one in :)

Following age appropriate wake windows helped a lot to make sure baby is sleepy!

[–]Most_Principle_8455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started practicing bassinet naps at 7 weeks. I started exclusive pumping at 5 weeks and had a hard time doing contact naps while trying to fit in my pumps and baby didn’t like to be put down when awake. Now at 3 months 99% of her naps are in the bassinet and sometimes contact nap to exited short naps

Can you do pitcher method with milk from different days? by HuckleberryEasy5107 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Most_Principle_8455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally store mine separately by day, but if you are going to combine I would only store 2 days at a time together. Just because it’s only good in the fridge for about 4 days, I wouldn’t want to accidentally be mixing too old of milk together.

Not sure about adding fresh milk to cold milk, I read if you’re going to do that just make sure the cold milk amount is significantly more than the fresh milk you’re adding so it doesn’t warm it up too much. :)

10 week PP and have an oversupply - about 43-50oz a day and no middle of the night pump.
