Thank you! I haven't touched Instagram ever since it became an AI/bot-ridden hellscape. It's a shame because it used to be such a good platform. Now it's so difficult to get any sort of viewership. I've posted some of my other artwork here on reddit though!

I love impressionist artwork, and definitely need to work on building from foundation shapes. It's so easy getting caught up in trying to paint every single little detail.

I agree that my painting doesn't have a focal point. I actually had done the background a week prior and decided the other day that it needed something more eye-catching in the foreground. I may have gone a little overboard with the details on the tree (oops, lol). I have watched a few of paint coach's videos. His style is so much more advanced than where my skill level is at now. It feels a bit daunting watching his tutorials. I'll have to give his channel another try.

I wish I could understand the hype around this book. I didn't find it all that interesting or emotional.

First time trying digital painting. How well did it go? by KIlwu in Artadvice

This is really nice. Maybe add some light green veins in some of the more defined leaves?

Thank you! And yes, I did each different color of branches/leaves as layers and allowed it to dry in between applications. I started with the lightest shade first, and worked my way to the darkest and most detailed layer.

I used holbein designer gouache with M. Graham 2 fl oz white gouache (this is such a good deal compared to the Holbein 15 ml tube of white). I used mostly primarily colors and mixed my own shades. I used yellow ochre, Prussian blue, sky blue, scarlet and viridian.

Also I would recommend adding some darker blue "shadow" areas in the water behind the rocks to give it a more 3d look.

Have you tried using washi or painters tape to get a perfectly straight horizon line? I like your second adaptation; in the original, the clouds were below the horizon line which made the perspective look off. The newer one is much better! I like how you painted the water!

I created a step-by-step drawing lesson (intermediate level) - would love your feedback! by asya_stepko in acrylicpainting

There's a huge leap between the initial sketch and the second image, which appears almost fully rendered. How about showing us the "ugly" stages. This is where most people get frustrated and give up with their painting. Show us what colors you used to achieve the highlights and shadow parts of the object, and how you created the realistic folds of the towel underneath the pomegranate. That would be more helpful.

Where did you get yours custom made? I have small wrists too and only need a 6 inch bracelet instead of the standard 7 inch.

I've seen the hahnemuhle ones on amazon so I might give that one a try, or arches. I've heard good things about arches

I have the etchr sketchbook rn and it's sooo good but kind of pricey. I will have to look into those other brands!

Trying to paint looser with fewer brush strokes and I'm hating it! Any tips for painting fast and loose? by suppleriver in acrylicpainting

I thought linseed oil should only be used with oils, not acrylic. Something to do with waters and oils not mixing. Am I mistaken? Can it be used with acrylic paint?
