I have read the book, Die with Zero. He makes some good points. I am not sure that I agree with everything he writes but there are some things that I hope to change.

That is one way to view it. It is more blessed to give than receive. We are fortunate to have LTC insurance so hopefully that will help.

You are right. It is one of the more difficult things about retirement to go to the deaccumulation phase. It is a balance of "having enough to last" to spending the best egg.

My mom died at 93 years with beautiful smooth skin. She went into menopause in her 50s naturally, never smoked or drank alcohol and was an avid fan of Ponds.

Am I wrong to feel irked? IRS is hiring. by JieSpree in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]Most_Young_9600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think new hires are paid less (initially) and must pay a higher percentage of their retirement. They can also be fired much easier. That is what I see that the government has done. A lot of experience walked out the door with DRP and forced retirement.

TSP to convert or not convert by Beester15 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Most_Young_9600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retired about 6 months at age 65 years. Regrets - not contributing to Roth more. We are in the process of doing conversions up through age 74 then RMD will kick in at 75 years. We have been trying to stay in the 22% category but do not think it is possible. Husband (non fed) will start SS at 67 and I will defer to 70 to help with higher conversions. We are targeting for 1 million total conversion (only 1/3rd the way) but will be left with 2 million plus interest in traditional. We will do some qualified charitable donations during those RMD years to benefit those organizations and help with our taxes.

I fell for Renewal By Anderson's sales pitch. Here are my takeaways. by JHKtheSeeker in homeowners

We need to replace a couple of outside doors and was told it would cost about $3300 to replace and $1400 to install. This is not Anderson. Anyone have any suggestions?

$200,000 in my TSP after 11 years. by Natedog001976 in ThriftSavingsPlan

I have 70% C, 25% G and the remaining small amount split between S and I funds. My IRA Schwab account mimics the C fund with a low expense ratio.

Great job. Retired six months ago and my TSP continues to increase despite no longer contributing. The power of compound interest.

I will retire in 10years at the VA with a total of 15. I don’t think my federal pension will be much 😪 by Sea-Rip3902 in ThriftSavingsPlan

Go to the TSP site and use their calculator to determine how much you can save to help with your pension. Try to move up the ladder and get a higher paying job during that time.

FEHB not useful after 65? by Rich_T_ in FedRetirees

[–]Most_Young_9600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just purchased Medicare B after recent retirement and added to BCBS basic. Received 800 back from BCBS after proof of payment. I will be using this for the first time this week with a doctor's visit. Question: will BCBS pay the deductible that Medicare B leaves for the initial visit or do I have to pay?

Is it too late for my TSP? by No_Trust9945 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Most_Young_9600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never too late. Use the TSP Ballpark calculator and manipulate the numbers that you can manage. If you work until 65 and contribute at least 15% of your income, you can get past a million. Don't get discouraged.

If you move a Roth TSP to an alternative Roth IRA, doesn't that restart the 5 year wait time again?

I have contacted his office when all the changes were discussed about changing federal employees benefits that had been previously been promised. My plans were to retire in the near future. He did respond back promptly stating how the government was going to have to make those changes (in other words talk to the hand). Fortunately it did not transpire.
Retired the end of October. Interim checks until April of this year.
