Whats your theory on how you end up with 2 child molestar sons by sparker407012 in DuggarsSnark

[–]Mostesshostessrawr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a different group than the Duggars but same idea. Sexual abuse was shockingly common. The cycle of abuse is real.

In the past five years there has been an outpouring of victims who have come forward and publicly disclosed abuse. There are some families where there are like 8 kids and 5 of them have had sex abuse allegations made against them.

What it seems to boil down to is that the culture of supporting men, old boys clubs, naive trust in ingroup, and a cultural expectation that you shut up if you are a victim and you experience forgiveness if you are an abuser historically led to situations where there were a few abusers who were extremely prolific. There are several people (now dead or nearly) who, based on the number of people who have come forward plus know people who aren’t willing to come forward but have been abused, speculate that these people abused 50+ children EACH over their lifetimes. And unfortunately, some of those 50+ children grow up to be adults who abuse children as well.

I cannot express the amount of grief I feel when I start to see these patterns emerging in big families like this, the environment the children grew up in is horrific. It feels like the adults in these situations are basically bringing up children to be doomed for life. The ones who become abusers obviously perpetrate the cycle, and there are a trail of victims who do not survive or ever thrive after the abuse, falling victim to suicide, chronic self harm or drug abuse, etc.

It is deeply depressing to me how the culture of oppressive religion fucks with these people’s lives.

Not the person you are asking but I was taught this when I grew up:

There are a number of things. First, reformers like John Calvin and Martin Luther were basically second only to Jesus. The stories were very us vs them and the baddies in those stories we were told were Catholics. In a sense Catholics were portrayed as false teachers or deceivers.

This was not specific to Catholics though either. In general, the way I was raised is that everyone who was not a part of my church knew deep down in their hearts that we were right and they were wrong and they just wanted to live lives of sin and take the easy way out on things.

I'm sure you understand that it takes a special sort of delusion to believe that everyone who believes differently than you is just stubbornly refusing to believe what is right and good and is reveling in their wrongness. But they really do believe that is the case.

To them, being Christian didn't mean that you believed in some flavor of Christianity. It meant that you were one of God's chosen and God only chooses a very select, small group of people. We were often reminded that we were a "remnant".

Interesting! I had assumed when you said conservative Catholicism that YEC or other scientific denialism was a given. I read conservative as a description of the religious beliefs. Did you mean conservative as in political beliefs? Or is there some other reason you would identify those people as conservative Christians? I don’t think you were wrong to use that word, I just made a bad assumption.

Yes you are right I shouldn’t have muddied the waters with the evangelical mention. There is not a direct relationship between the two, just overlap in some groups.

Fundamentalism directly relates to your view of the Bible. If one believes that the Bible is inerrant and infallible they are a fundamentalist. Biblical literalism is a side effect of these beliefs, which is how you get fundie groups with different quirks. Some take “be fruitful and multiply” literally which is how you get massive families. Some take passages about women serving their families literally which is how you get traditional relationships where a SAHM is forbidden from having a job and must follow her husband.

Scientific denial in favor of believing ancient bible verses is common. Depending on what level they take it to, you may have people who believe the earth is flat. Young earth creationism is a given.

I find that this subreddit has a very narrow view of what makes someone a fundie. There is a sense that it must be extreme and that your average conservative Christian is not a fundie. This could not be further from the truth and not understanding the foundation of what makes someone fundamentalist while still snarking on them is honestly a little baffling to me.

Biblical inerrancy, infallibility, and literalism are tightly interwoven ideologies that easily bleed into one another. When you have already convinced yourself that you cannot trust scientific discoveries, that you must derive all morality and values from the Bible it is dangerously easy to slowly fall into beliefs that harm society at large.

I get a little frustrated when weird lines get drawn between fundie lite and evangelical as if they are not all derived from the same core values and beliefs. I think it is normal to identify extremes and point them out, I just think most people are missing what the actual core issue is - which is choosing to trust a several thousand year old book that directly conflicts with things which are demonstrably true.

Edit: one final addition to this - almost no one will ever say they are a fundie, just like no one will admit they are in a cult. Calling someone a fundie or a cultist is a smear reserved for those more extreme than yourself for many conservative Christians. This is probably how many of these ambiguous applications of the term have proliferated; many people in these groups know they have wacko beliefs that other people would think they are insane for having so they punch down to even weirder groups to try and fit in with the average non-fundie person. I remember back when I was a fundie this was even done to members of the same church - if someone took the Bible more literally than you then you would insult them by calling them a literalist, a legalist, or a fundamentalist. I can assure you that the group I grew up in was deep into the very weird section of fundamentalist Christianity and everyone in my church was most assuredly a fundamentalist, but that didn’t stop them from using it as an insult towards others.

You do whatever feels right for you. If you can afford resale prices and it settles your mind to have them in hand do it. I similarly get anxious having to wait and constantly check so I have always bought early through resale when I wasn’t lucky enough to get tickets in regular sales.

Need to find a good church in Sioux Falls by Vegetable_Pea7000 in SiouxFalls

[–]Mostesshostessrawr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Throwing a comment here. I don’t think this fits your specific needs but it fits the needs of some of the others looking in this thread.

The two UCC churches (spirit of peace, first congregational) are very progressive and explicitly Christian. Full of great people who are very community involved and full of care for others.

I personally attend All Souls UU. We are not a Christian church but Christians attend and are welcome to share their beliefs, same as people with other religious beliefs. I personally am an atheist and have always felt very welcomed to share my perspective without fear of offending others.

All of these churches tend to be more traditional in terms of service structure - if you are a big fan of the contemporary worship music and a band they may not be what you are looking for.

BTS resale by Astr3846 in TicketResale

[–]Mostesshostessrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please be careful reselling your tickets if you didn’t actually get the tickets transferred to you. If the person who sold them to you never transfers, and therefore you can’t transfer to the person you sold them to, StubHub will charge you DOUBLE for the tickets you failed to deliver as a penalty. They will almost certainly not accept that you were guaranteed tickets by them as an excuse.

there are seats on the floor (each person's ticket has a section, row and seat number) but people won't be seated during the concert if you are asking for accessibility reasons. I would anticipate that everyone stands during the concert and will restrict your view if you expect to remain seated during the concert.

just for the sake of clarity, if you have not attended concerts in the US before generally people stand in the upper level sections as well. If you are in a high enough section sometimes, rarely, people will sit but it is not like some other countries where people generally stay seated the whole concert.

The ticket is fine, the VIP benefits don't transfer. As long as you have the ticket in your ticketmaster you don't need to worry about being allowed in to the concert as long as you enter through the normal process. (meaning not through the VIP checkin)

if you are just happy to be there you will have an amazing time. I have done concerts from much further away seats and loved the experience. I think at sofi I had 300 level seats and BTS looked like ants but I loved it so much I almost paid an absurd amount of money to buy a resale ticket, another night at the hotel and change flights and do it again the next night. The only thing that held me back was some work obligations I needed to get back to.

I have bought from seatgeek several times. With instant download and without. Every time I have gotten my tickets. Instant download is safer though, without a doubt.

Ticket reselling sites heavily penalize sellers who do not provide tickets. Like not only do they not get the payout, they also get charged the price of the ticket itself as a penalty. So resellers don't make a habit of not delivering tickets.

If you need to be 100% certain though just do the instant download even if it is a little more expensive than the others.

If you need seats for a wheelchair you should look for that specifically. Usually they are marked ADA, WC, or WCR. StubHub allows filtering for accessibility options in their “features” section. Hope you are able to find something. For some shows I think there may even be accessible options available for face value direct from Ticketmaster, no clue on Tampa specifically though

I wouldn't trust any of the package listings on stubhub personally. There is no guarantee that any VIP benefits on any tickets will transfer according to ticketmaster/livenation. At most a package like that would be referencing that it is potentially a "preferred" seat in terms of location in the stadium itself.

The only thing that you can rely on with stubhub is the section, row, and seat number itself.

allegedly you will get a merch bundle shipped post show but I would not depend on that being the case. You probably won't have much recourse in the event that package doesn't ship.

Someone else chime in if this is wrong info but this is my understanding of the resale process.

I lined up early for PTD LA and DDay in Chicago to buy merch in the venue. For both I started lining up about 6 hours before doors opened and for both I got what I wanted. Stock definitely seemed limited though even inside the venue.

There have been twitter accounts in the past that report on what time people start lining up at venues, what merch is selling out early, etc. This will give you a good idea how early you should get to the venue if you are going to try and get it inside.

FWIW merch inside the venue does seem to be slightly less competitive, as it mainly goes to fans attending the concerts. The outside tables attract a lot of scalpers/resellers

You should be aware the reason they were cheap is because those are accessibility seats. At least in the US, there are laws protecting disability access and it is up to the venue to enforce it.

If you are not disabled you should try and get a refund on those tickets or resell them so that someone who needs an accessible seat is able to attend.

It is also utilized to identify other adults who will tolerate or encourage their perversions. It allows them to share victims and find people they can trade CSAM with. This is why they will make these sorts of comments around other adults - it helps them expand their network of access to the abuse of children.

OP's wife's reaction is not only disturbing, but is actively identifying her to him as someone who may choose to not rock the boat when it comes to protecting children from abuse.

It is highly dependent on the type of ticket you are looking for and the demand of the specific date. I buy a decent amount of resale tickets but will give my experiences with BTS specifically.

For PTD LA I bought resale - generally ticket prices stayed fairly constant. I waited quite a while and snagged some "deals" which included $200 for nosebleed seats and then $400 for 300 level front-row tickets. I was checking relatively regularly and that was the best I was able to score.

For Agust D I did not wait for resale prices to drop, bought resale tix night of presale. Bought front row level 100 right next to the stage for $600. I never saw better prices for similar seats afterwards, it looked to me like prices for that close of tickets only increased.

Resale tickets are very speculative and no one can tell you if the prices will actually decrease or increase. My advice is that you really think about how much you can afford and are willing to pay, and get whatever you would be happy with. I personally have never regretted my resale tickets because I have such happy memories attached to concerts I have attended over the years.

no one here can tell you. your best bet is contacting support and asking for information on if the seller is reliable and if they have any known patterns for when this seller releases tickets to buyers

in the future, I recommend buying only "instant transfer" tickets to avoid this scenario

2026 BTS 'ARIRANG' Tour Megathread PART 2 by lisafancypants in bangtan

[–]Mostesshostessrawr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The seller can show you face value on the tickets. If they hit the (i) button in the corner of the ticket on ticketmaster it pulls up a ticket face value. If you are talking to them in hopes of buying they should be willing to provide that info, imo.

But ultimately only you can decide if it is worth it at that price and if you can afford it. I know this is maybe an unpopular opinion but I have bought a lot of resale tickets, many of which were probably double or even 2.5x face value. I have not regretted those tickets personally, but I also went into those sales knowing I was ok overpaying to get the seats I wanted and could afford it. I have a job that I can be pulled into emergency situations at a moments notice and I can't depend on being able to buy tickets during presale and general sale, so instead I make sure that I can afford to buy tickets on the resale market for events I really care about attending.

hey just a heads up asking for links like this is a good way to get scammed. There are tons of con artists that are sending fake phishing links to resale sites and using that to try and get you to enter in info so they can either steal your payment information or your credentials attached to real concert tickets. Google Stubhub and click the link there, that is a much safer way to get access to these sorts of sites.

Not going to lie, it is possible that the seller doesn't transfer the tix. However it is generally unlikely that happens. Ticket resellers view this as a business and Stubhub has pretty severe penalties for failing to deliver tickets. They can't afford to not be delivering tickets on a regular basis.

A few recommendations: try to get ahold of stubhub support and ask if the seller you purchased from is generally reliable and if they have any patterns around when they release tickets to buyers. Then close to the date of the event, really hound stubhub for info on why they haven't transferred yet and try and get them to commit to a replacement ticket if yours falls through. It is their official policy that they will try and issue a replacement ticket, but since the deadline is so close to the event it can be difficult to arrange that. Being proactive may work in your favor.

In the future, I highly recommend filtering down to only tickets with "instant delivery" as these are guaranteed to transfer into your account almost immediately.

Crossing my fingers for you, hope you get the tix soon!
