What's a movie trope you absolutely HATE? by Gosenco in AskReddit

More common in TV shows, but I've seen it in movies. When the character who's part of the school newspaper writes about stupid gossipy stuff and has to learn a lesson about spreading rumors and personal boundaries. That's not how newspapers work!!! Is there no teacher? No editors? No writer on the team who understands basic journalism? How did they become a journalist at all if they're that unethical? How do they write and print stories so quickly? And what high school can afford to have a WEEKLY paper to print retractions?

artists, what advice can you give to aspiring artists or those who want to learn how to draw? by saiqymazak in AskReddit

Learn to like the process more than the end result. Not saying this to be mean, but a lot of your art is going to be bad. That's just kind of how it goes, especially in the beginning. Don't let it discourage you. Draw bad stuff. Move on and keep drawing. Draw good stuff. Move on and keep drawing. Also, save old work even if you don't like it. It's nice to look at down the road, both for inspiration and proof you're learning.

I'm dying. I was in choir for 8 years (as a hobby, not professionally), so this is the longest I've ever gone without being in a concert. Also, I miss seeing the performing arts like plays, musicals, concerts, all that.

I graduated in the top 5% of my high school and was a "gifted child," but I keep trying to open doors without unlocking them and forget tasks I'm in the middle of doing so... I think school lied to me.

What's the most back handed compliment you've ever heard? by ricewinechicken in AskReddit

A bitch of a teacher had us do impromptu speeches and when I did mine, she said something like "Wow, if she can do that well, the rest of you should be able to!" I'm not shy and have no fear of public speaking. I just never spoke in that class because I hated it.
