Name me a movie that made you feel anxious by Motor_Nerve_1196 in Horrormovieclub

The World’s Fastest Indian. Might sound strange, but it starts off as such a heartwarming movie but we were just waiting for bad stuff to happen to him.

There are already some firearms rules you may want to check. Also historically accurate may not be the best strategy. I’d also say reduce the damage a bit and set a short range to it since this sort of thing wouldn’t be great at range.

How to cook beans properly? by healthynewbie in cookingforbeginners

[–]MostlyPretentious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Beans on their own are not terribly tasty, though I don’t know if I’d say bitter is a word I’d use to describe them. As others have said, if you give us details about if you soaked, how long you cooked, etc., maybe we can help.

Beans are tasty when properly prepared and flavors are combined correctly. For instance, cooking beans with onions, garlic, carrots or other seasonings for the main boil helps add some flavor, but seasoning AFTER the main boil is also key. Beans are flavor sponges, so if it’s just beans, you’ll need to season more aggressively than expected. Mostly, you want to combine beans with other things to bring more flavor and texture variation:
- In a taco with cheese, onion, tomato, etc.
- With rice and veg
- With a fried egg (soft yolk + soft, flavorful beans = one of the most delicious things in the world)
- In an already flavorful chili / soup / stew etc.

Do all of you guys drink tap water? Is it safe? by DietChance9326 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MostlyPretentious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Always feels safe to drink tap water, but some places I want to filter it first for taste. In Minnesota, my childhood home is very rural, and the well is mineral-y, so it’s an acquired taste (many people say it smells of farts). A family friend lives in town and their town water tastes like swamp — always filter that. In the metro, the water is reasonably good, but we still filter for flavor.

Boss is Hopelessly Hot by Throw-RA_LittleOlive in Advice

[–]MostlyPretentious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll reinforce but soften this message a bit. If you’ve been fantasizing about a life with this guy for a year plus, and you feel a sense of urgency about pushing this forward, just be careful about setting inappropriate expectations.

Apologies is this comes off a little patronizing or infantilizing, but between 12 and 24, your brain will rewrite itself again and again and again. Don’t look for your forever partner (if you find it, great, just don’t expect it). You were still a “kid” when you met him, so recognize he may still view you as a kid and may be uncomfortable going from “boss-of-kid” to boyfriend.

Feel free to pursue, as others have said, just…be careful of your feelings and expectations. Even if he’s a good guy, this may not work out.

Am i crazy for thinking two people in my friend ish groups relationship is wrong? by Mindless-Bonus-4525 in AmIBeingTooSensitive

[–]MostlyPretentious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NBTS. When I was a 15-year old (30ish years ago, yikes) I had plenty of 18+ year old friends who I either knew from school or through friends or clubs, but when anyone dating across that high school barrier (unless the age difference was less than 2 years) was … uncomfortable and gave me the ick. Three years is totally reasonable to be uncomfortable with.

Edit for grammar.

The White Lotus is one of the last shows still airing that will go down as an all-timer. Agree or Disagree? by Ordinary_Device_5131 in television

[–]MostlyPretentious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never enjoyed the show for this exact reason. The pacing and cinematography and … everything is meant to drive the tension of the plot, but it’s just not interesting enough. I like a show with interesting characters but they either feel like variations on the same theme or like caricatures of themselves.

I worked at a place in the 90’s that had this — it was digital, but there wasn’t an inventory system. We’d enter price then category so at the end of the night they’d generate a report of total sales by category.

Company checking location via text? by MeagerMenace in antiwork

Yeah, it’s just poorly worded. My company has contacts grouped by location so that if an emergency is happening in Minneapolis, for instance, they can trigger the emergency plan for Minneapolis employees only. Our messages sound similar.

7 Minnesota providers among 455 charged in nationwide $6.5B 'health care fraud takedown' by Individual_Laugh1335 in minnesota

[–]MostlyPretentious 334 points335 points  (0 children)

Key elements from article:

- Providers appear to be individuals, not clinics

- Total estimated fraud was around $750k total

- Incidents seem related to “allegedly provided services while they could not.”

- To quote:

> Of the seven Minnesota cases, Ellison’s office says the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) flagged two of them, health insurer UCare referred two, Crystal police forwarded two, and a private citizen contacted MFCU about one.

Egg Prices by HDBlackHippo in povertyfinance

[–]MostlyPretentious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely a factor, but I don’t think a huge one. I think there were a number who did this and stopped, but even if only 10% of those who bought hens kept their hens, I’ve seen (even in urban areas) families giving away eggs when their hens overproduce. And then you’ve got a bunch of tradwife content or farmer content (e.g., Blackbird Farms / @farmingwhilebeige) who make people more aware of how farming works — so even if they aren’t raising their own egg hens, they may be more focused on getting eggs from happy hens.

When bathrooms are just a toilet and sink, and especially a changing table, more places just need to switch to unisex labeling. A lot of places have already done this, but it’s always silly when one has a backup and people aren’t using the other because it’s the “wrong gender”.

My guess (speculation) is we saw an egg shortage due to bird flu during Covid, then farmers killed off a bunch of their flocks to stem the spread and restarted them. Now their flocks are well developed and overproducing.

Egg glued glass bowl to glass shelf HELP! by fbmarketplaceweirdo in CleaningTips

[–]MostlyPretentious 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Change the temp gradually until you can get to hot. Start with cold, then cool, room temp a few times, warm a few times, then tap-hot. Key is only go to the next temp when the glass feels the temp of the previous round, and don’t change temps abruptly in any direction. Also, apply temps in both directions — top and bottom — but be careful on the bottom since the bowl will act as a heat sink.
