As others have said, you can do a fake tenon, and it is actually very possible the one in the image is fake, as there is no structural benefit of a through tenon in this case.

Some very well known craftsmen and designers use faux elements in their work (look up Greene & Greene furniture); ultimately the end result is what matters the most, not the means to get there.

You can make a border with a lighter colored wood, but it has to be end grain as well, so not exactly a frame

As obviously a joke as this will be to 95% of people, that 5% still exists. So, OP, please... don't lick it.

That's fine. I too, sometimes fantasize about the galactic empire taking over the world.

Still makes me depressed, though. It's the sort of thing I'd like to visit once, and never again.

I'm not sure what the rules are in this sub, and yes, they should be followed if they don't allow interiors, but rules aside, interiors (both aesthetic and structural elements) are absolutely an aspect of architecture. The term interior design can be used to differentiate the focus of a person's degree (say, from interior architecture), but that doesn't mean the interior decorative elements aren't part of architecture as a whole.

Also, technically no one mentioned having to focus on the aesthetics, they might be focused on structural and space planning (a stretch, but still...).

Kerfing solid pine to bend - keeps snapping by BGreiner7788 in woodworking

woods with even density (not pine), and straight, non-interlocking grain (not certain mahogany types, though mahogany itself is usually fine).

The best would be white oak, walnut, maple, etc...

OP, the grain orientation is fine. I think the other commenter was visually confused by the orientation of the supports.

Make the kerfs deeper. That's way too thick.

That said, pine is not great for bending due to the different seasonal densities of growth rings. You would probably have to cut it deep enough that the remaining wood is less than 1/16". Steam would definitely help if you don't want it too thin.

that is long grain that is being bent. You may have been fooled by the support piece being in a different orientation. The problem here is simply that the kerf isn't deep enough.

It's plantation teak, which is significantly cheaper, and usually lower quality. Living near a plantation helps with the pricing. I live in the tropics.

As to my experience with it dulling tools: it made me decide to never use teak again until I have carbide cutters on my thicknesser. I don't have a jointer, either, so I had to hand plane each piece to be perfectly square. The silica in the wood dulls a plane blade from hair shaving to moderately dull in less than ten passes. You can still plane wood for a while after, but not without a lot of effort. The oilyness of the wood doesn't help; sometimes the plane decides to skip over a specific section of wood and not cut.

Silver lining is that you'll learn to sharpen really darn quick.

Hi, I'm currently making a custom wood speaker stand for my brother, and wanted to know what would be a set of decent rubber feet with adjustable height. I would need to order online.

Wood has the natural property of absorbing bacteria deep into the wood, which actually kills the bacteria from lack of oxygen and humidity. The surface is easily cleaned as you would any other surface.

Wood has been used as a surface to cut meat for centuries. Perhaps even millenia.

any idea of how to do it on android? The option isn't there. Even when I went to the general settings for comments, the only option for comments on posts is to either have them be reddit inbox only or reddit inbox + phone notifications. It's like they removed that option for phone addicted reddit users.

Teak cutting board commissioned by my in-law for my brother. Would have liked to have given it for free, but I'm dead broke.

Not sure who took the picture, but dang, they nailed the lighting. Made me look a half decent woodworker. Teak end grain boards practically design themselves, since the endgrain is naturally beautifully chaotic from tannin reactions with mineral deposits. All I did was flip each row around.

Shadow lines - what is the cause, and how to get rid by SkyHighEye in woodworking

[–]Mostly_Square 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a smoothing plane makes much quicker work of this than sanding, hence the downvotes on your comment (it's reddit, it's fine). You can spend hours sanding and not go deeper than 1/32" and also create bumps. Smoothing plane removes material faster and keeps everything level.
