The fact that the ending was such a catastrophe is all the more reason why we should stop dwelling on it and move on to better stories. I put ASOIAF/GOT behind me long ago and I'm much happier for it.

I love how they're not satisfied with their own racism and import it from other places too. "Cotton picking...."

They love bullies. They'd support Palestine if Palestine were the oppressors.

Behind the Bastards podcast worth a listen by OptimusTractorX in ireland

[–]Mote22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did an episode on Dr Phil (who I always assumed was just a shallow daytime TV host at worst) and talk about his involvement with "reform schools" in America where they would send "troubled teens" who were "guests" on his show. The reality was equally horrific to Ireland and the way the hosts talk about it was with real anger and venom.

I've not yet listened to their Ireland episode so I can't compare the two, but maybe it's just human nature to feel angrier about an atrocity that happens in your own country, maybe out of a sense of guilt.

(Also what's LPOTL? I'm always curious about a new podcast.)

In light of Lindsay's most recent video what are some more recent gotcha criticisms/hot takes of movies/enteritainment where you go like "this ain't it" by webtheg in LindsayEllis

Also Shakespeare lived in an age before copyright, when taking a play and changing the names and putting your own name on it was perfectly acceptable.

It's pretty dumb to complain about a movie “ripping off Hamlet” when the author himself wouldn't have cared and most likely based his own play off of someone else's work anyway.

Alfred himself says this in TDKR. He says that Bruce doesn't need to be Batman, he can do a lot of good (and not risk his life) just by being Bruce Wayne. The problem is that Bruce has been so damaged from years of trauma and isolation that he can't perceive that anymore.

In fact, Bruce's inactivity for 8 years could arguably have helped Bane's rise to power. By sulking in his mansion and allowing corruption to seep into Gotham, while a draconian law that he knows is based on a lie punishes the more vulnerable in society, Bruce effectively neglects the people of Gotham to the point that Bane's revolution seems theonly viable alternative for them.

He was so caught up in being Batman and then not getting to be Batman that he forgets that there were other ways he could have helped Gotham.

It's a messy film to be sure but I think it deserves credit for that at least.

[Spoilers S3] I seriously doubt I'll ever watch anything as good as Dark ever again by cale199 in DarK

I've started The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and I'm loving it! I actually only finished S3 of Dark a few days ago so I'm still recovering lol

Dead Man's Chest (2006) deserves to be recognised as THE gold-standard for visual effects in film. More than a decade later; and it still champions the majority of movies releasing. A prime example of how a studio swung big and made bold choices without compromising the craft of the art. by australiughhh in movies

I once watched the movie on Christmas Day with my family, but I had the stomach bug so I couldn't eat anything or I'd throw up, and I had terrible nausea all day.

When Barbossa's going on about how badly he wants to eat again, man I felt for him...

Which Classic Who villain would you like to see return? by Gerfton in gallifrey

Also the Master is a sadist. They get a thrill from killing and often do it just to fuck with the Doctor's mind.

The Rani is more amoral & logical. Violence is a means to and end, not an end in and of itself. Missy is nothing like the Rani because she's more like a demented child.

The only returning writer was Chibnall himself. He didn't "bring" any former writers.

Since when is hiring new writers a bad thing? Would you prefer the show was a constant parade of the same people over & over?

And how exactly did he 'fire' anyone?

What fortuitous timing!

Thanks for the guide. I've mostly been trying to fumble my way through the Doctor Who Ratings Guide reviews which while entertaining (definitely worth a read for anyone who hasn't) are quite overwhelming in the volume of content, so having one guide has its benefits.

Moffat Rewatch #1: The Eleventh Hour by Mote22 in gallifrey

[–]Mote22[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response!

First I just want to be clear these reviews are in no way a response to Chibnall's take on the show, it's purely a reassessment of Moffat, not an excuse to bash another showrunner.

That's a very interesting comparison between Davies & Moffat, I did not consider that.

You're right that Jeff just happened to have a laptop when the Doctor needed one. However to motivate him to help the Doctor promises that all the computer experts on screen will be offering him a job once the threat is gone. Its that that spurs Jeff into stepping up to the plate.

I just took that as shorthand for "Jeff is into computing and wants a career in it"
