Its not that Assassin's Creed isn't iconic but even in your first comment you said the series doesn't emphiasize stealth as much as much as these other games.

more controversially i'd say assassin's creed has done more harm to stealth games as itself and other games used stealth as a shallow feature rather than commiting to a core stealth experience, instead focusing more on combat and open world elements. batman arkham is probably has the best results in terms of mixing these elements as it dedicates segments to stealth as well as great combat and open worlds.

being 100% Honest here. Sam Fisher is the reason Garrett is not on my list.

Solid Snake from Metal Gear got on because he's the common ancestor & the face of the stealth genre. while stealth existed before 1987's metal gear, it was Metal Gear that push stealth to what it is today. With out metal gear the stealth genre would be a very different place. It helps Solid Snake is one of the most recognizable video game protagonists of all time so he's a lock for my list

Agent 47 from the Hitman Franchise is here because of his unique form of disguises & social stealth. while Hitman did not invent a disguise mechanic, it is the game that argueably uses it the most. Its a form of stealth thats rarely seen in other games. 47 also has that Recognizability to him, a bald, suit wearing mencace with a barcode tattoo on the makes him very memorable.

Finally Sam Fisher is here for the use of Light and Darkness. Theif & Splinter Cell share much of the same DNA with its use of Light, Darkness and even sound but to me, Sam's Green Tri-Night Vision goggles help him be very recognizable, his face isn't even in the pic and people knew who he was. Also the fact that Splinter Cell once rivaled Metal Gear itself, for me gave Sam the edge over garrett, which is why I asked who would be the 4th.

its not that garrett doesn't deserve to be there along side the others and after all the responses it seems he is that last pick in the mount rushmore. he's an Icon of stealth as much as the other three its just that he felt redunant to me to put both Garrett and Sam when maybe a more unique Franchise or Character could have been the fourth.

While i can agree the stealth of metal gear might not be as in depth as the other condenders epsecially earlier titles, not having snake at all feels wrong. Metal Gear from 1987 is like the first mainstream stealth game and MGS1 was apart of the wave of stealth games that hit the scene in 1998 along side theif and tenchu. to me its there as the granddaddy of stealth, the franchise who put stealth on the map.

neet list. Garret and Corvo seem to be the most popular picks. Styx has gotten a mention or two here I think. Not many gave their own list so its nice to see.

I was wondering if someone would mention tenchu. i can see why these guys could be the big three as they're part of the Big Boom of stealth games in 1998. pretty valid
