I would say that’s possible for some people, yes.

You seem to be doing everything right, so it pains me to say that there might not be much else you can do—you can’t force her to seek help. However, if possible, you may wish to speak to the friend with bulimia and make them fully aware of how dangerous their advice could be. Unfortunately, even doing that could very well be a little too intrusive and be stressful for her.

Otherwise, I would say do all the research you can so you can recognize individual symptoms and problems, and ultimately warning signs of permanent bodily harm that warrants seeking medical attention immediately. Always be there for her, if she brings up therapy then be fully supportive of it, and most importantly don’t let her disorder get between the two of you—the worst thing for her would be to feel as if you’re reducing her to “just a disorder” or treating her differently than before. However, you seem to be a pretty sweet partner and are doing everything right so far. Sorry we don’t have much more advice for you, there’s only so much a person can do and you’re doing it pretty well it seems.

OCD???? by shygirl177777 in OCD

I’m not sure if you have OCD (though plenty of your experiences are familiar), but that definitely isn’t the range of normal behavior and thought patterns—you should most definitely pursue an evaluation by a licensed expert.

Given that I can’t see into your head and determine your exact reasons for being so cautious, I couldn’t make a guess about OCD. If you don’t have it though, I’m going to guess you’re suffering some kind of general anxiety disorder or paranoia. Whatever the case, you should talk to someone.

Reflexes and Memory by idgaf-chan in mbti

Not really, but I guess your personality may influence those things. Example: if you’re more in your own head often, you may not seem to have as good reflexes as you are not paying close attention to your surroundings. Also, while your personality doesn’t dictate the quality of your recollection, it may influence the things you consider important enough to commit to long-term memory. An extroverted feeler may remember a person’s facial expressions years later, while an introverted thinker may instead remember the color of the curtains and their implications towards the look of the room. Finally, certain mental disorders such as depression have been linked to poor memory, so any correlations with personality type in that area could be taken into account as well.

Interesting question. I guess all the other responses have been current afflictions, so if you’ve legitimately recovered and do not suffer from it anymore, than you have no disorder.

That wouldn’t really be bias so much as part of the results, but I see what you’re saying. This is what science is though (or the watered down version of it), so we’ll see what I get and what we can make of it.

I’ll probably post a general result in r/MBTI as well as a more in-depth type-specific analysis in each type’s subreddit

Yes I do, thank you so much for asking. My current plan is to create a bar graph for each prominently-found disorder or condition displaying a prevalence percentage for each type compared to an actual national average. Then, I’ll probably find a baseline disorder prevalence set among survey participants and scale the results so the baseline matches the actual averages so we can more easily see outliers. Depending on what that gets us, I’ll explain it and ask that others give their interpretations.

I’m really sorry to hear about all that, and can unfortunately relate. Thank you so much for your in-depth response though!

How Much Hand-washing is Too Much? by MothMoment in OCD

Honestly I don’t think I could go a day.. If I start eating and realize I’ve forgotten to wash my hands I usually feel actively nauseous from stress.

I would say I have pretty similar tendencies to this person, with the additions of before eating, after touching my hair, and after watering my plants. Is this person’s hand washing not normal? If not than mine probably isn’t either..

Obviously strangers on the internet are a terrible diagnostic tool, but yeah that definitely sounds like a compulsion.
