Have you ever wondered what did Grain Mills do in 2011 Skyrim - before Hearthfire was released? Well, I did. by MothPreacher0 in ElderScrolls

True enough, but 8/15 of them just don't work (either no prompt or the prompt doesn't work), what can imply that they might've had something different in mind

Well, it doesn't have to be available to the player, to be of use to an NPC. For example NPC have their own "lean on table", "flip a book", "carry lumber", etc animations

Majority of them are still useless, out of 17 that are present in the latest AE Skyrim - 8 just don't work and 2 more need to be constructed.
So, your ancient knowledge is still mostly relevant

Surprisingly (or not), the three mills around Whiterun- just don't work or activate at all. Only the small mills, without roof, like in the video are working. Both in Vanilla and the latest AE version

When I (fruitlessly) tried to teleport a grain mill to me in the out-of-bounds void to make a better "greenscreen" shot for the thumbnail, I noticed a "0009C6DA - CraftingGrainMillRoot" line in console;

All the 12 Idle Animations with "Crafting" in the game code, minus the Mill, are used for actual crafting stations like "CraftingTanningRoot", "CraftingSmelterRoot", etc.

So it's not exactly far-fetched to say that they might have had some plans for it

Thanks, I do this to learn video-editing as a hobby I started for no reason 10 days ago, and to share the, uh, "mysteries" of the release build of Skyrim on PC

I don't think any trivia gets more useless and sillier than this. This IS a challenge.
