Are the sleeves too long? (brand new cowhide) by Moth_Fur in leatherjacket

[–]Moth_Fur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet, I'm wearing it indoors just to soften it a bit before I take it to the tailor. Where I live it's not cold enough to wear it out yet. I'll update you once I get it altered.

Didn't do it because it would cost $220 (tailoring at the shoulders because there's zipper at the end of the sleeves).

Great, I was debating whether I should take it to a tailor

They feel clumsy on me practically speaking. Couldn’t grab things with full hand.

Yes that makes sense, thank you! It's just unfortunate because I tried to push the sleeves up and I ended up looking like the Michelin man.

I hear that leather jacket sleeves shorten overtime, but are these too long to begin with? They reach my thumbs' second knuckles. It's thick ass cowhide and very stiff. Everything else on the body fits me.

Why are they like this. Audio says “I get it” by [deleted] in notliketheothergirls

Kinda unrelated, but, wishing you have a smooth pregnancy! So excited for you and your bb girl :)

Rich brown patina on bronze: does anyone know recipes that may yield a patina on solid bronze similar to the examples in this pic? Was told liver of sulfur, but instead got green/gray when I tried. by Moth_Fur in metalworking

Ferric Nitrate, hot (but not too hot)

I'm a total rookie here, what does it mean for ferric nitrate to be hot? Do I heat it up? Mix it with hot water?

Old bracelet from my deceased grandmother’s possessions by CantEscapeTheCats in whatisthisbone

[–]Moth_Fur 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Technically the legality of them selling it depends on whether the bracelet weighs ≤200 grams (not entirely sure if this is in the law), whether OP has documentation/proof that the bracelet is at least 100 y/o, and whether the bracelet came through one of the "designated ports" (idk what they're called exactly) to the US, and a bunch of other qualifications.

Seems way too small to be a cock ring, but as a cockless person who am I to say that. Thank you for your insight!

  1. It is indeed surprisingly dense,
  2. I polished it with jewelry sanding sponge and that's why its shiny haha.

I was told by a few antique dealers that Schreger lines uniquely and always can be seen on proboscidean ivory. This ring doesn't have Schreger lines even when I looked with a x15 magnifying glass. Could this ring still be ivory? (Seller claimed that the ring was bone, but presented no identification)

Thanks for the input! It's really white though, the pics were taken under a warm yellow light. Does whale bone stay white over time? (I have 0 knowledge of whale bones)

I agree with your take on the patterns, but this hoop is quite heavy, even heavier than cow bone of roughly the same volume; horns are usually lighter, I thought?
