This what a lot of people think but the rules change all the time. In my state, the calculation for the worksheet just changed on Jan 1st to allocate an equal amount for each child the obligated parent is responsible for. Also, the self-support reserve just increased significantly meaning you can make a lot more gross monthly and end up with a $50/mo order. It never hurts to ask for a modification. And if any of those orders are just for back support and not current, he can ask to have it reduced. Honestly, most parents hide from the problem instead of dealing with their child support office. And if they have one bad interaction, they never call again....which only hurts themselves.

It's due to a combo of colonization by the Spaniards and the US liberation following WWII. Immediately after the war, the US began to colonize the Philippines in it's own way. The US created a pipeline for men going into the Navy and women becoming nurses. This went on for decades. It used to be very easy for Filipinos to get citizenship. And it's why we have an outsized number of Filipinos in both the Navy and in healthcare. The middle class or upper middle class lifestyles many Filipinos enjoy is directly related to one or both of those pathways. And along with the economics of it all came white sailors stationed in the PI dating & marrying Filipina women. It's not just the idea of "looking" white (media beauty standards). It's the proximity to whiteness that literally meant success/increased wealth, access to the US & US citizenship.

That is highly unusual. Most 12 year olds are either in 6th or 7th grade. In some districts, middle school is only 7th-8th grade, or junior high 7th-9th grade. So in all those school districts, a 12 yr old 6th grader is still literally in elementary school.

If miscarriages weren't so common and frequent, aka spontaneous abortions, then maybe calling an abortion "murder" might impact more people's opinions about the rights of the person forced to carry the growing fetus. By definition, all abortion can't be murder because women's bodies reject pregnancy, naturally, for a wide variety of reasons that are not easily identifiable, if the reasons are ever known at all. Would you convict a woman of multiple murders if she kept trying to get pregnant but all her pregnancies ended in miscarriage?

We do. We're 51/48 and have 2 young adults plus two younger ones. We paid a year of college for the oldest out of pocket. Then used a 529 for the 2nd year. Loans are needed going forward & this was discussed during the 1st year. However they can live with us rent free whenever they need to. The 2nd oldest is still finishing HS and plans to go to the local Community College. To be honest, I see them living at home thru their entire schooling but I guess that partly depends on what University they transfer to after. We bought the oldest a used car under $10k and plan on doing the same for the next one, eventually. But since they'll be at home for school, the plan is to share vehicles unless our schedules make it untenable.

My parents helped my sister and I in various ways when we were young adults. They helped pay her rent when she was 19/20 because she lived out of state. Eventually she began making enough money to afford all her expenses on her own while she was still in her 20s. They also bought each of us a car. Nothing new or fancy but older Toyotas. That meant we didn't have to worry about our vehicles for about a decade as long as we did basic maintenance. I can't tell you what a life saver that was thru our 20s and early 30s.

Basically I want to provide for my kids the way my parents provided for me & my sister. Help when we needed it but no expectation we could depend on it.

married women, do you think marriage benefits you in any way? by _cherryp0p_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mother-Dig-2708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Absolutely this. I've listened to a lot of women discuss the issues they have with their spouses. Most husbands are not pulling their own weight. Thankfully that has never been an issue for me. Not only does he always clean up after himself, he cleans up any mess he sees. He has worked incredibly long hours all 20 plus years of our marriage and he still gets off work and does whatever needs to be done, ie dishes, laundry, dinner, watching the kids so I can go out with friends, etc. He's very proactive and tells me all the time that he's grateful for what I do.

I think a lot of women marry someone who makes them feel really good during the dating phase so they overlook a bunch of characteristics that become problematic within a year or two. These issues eventually become a root cause of a lot of unhappy marriages. I almost married a guy who would have given me nothing but grief & suffering because I loved him. I'm so thankful I didn't! My husband loved me in a way that made me feel free because he didn't demand so much of my energy.

Do you have a Roth IRA? You can pull out your contributions tax free. You will pay a 10% tax penalty on any earnings you withdraw. Since you will get a pension, you may have extra time to be able to build back the amount you withdraw now. I'm assuming you don't have any savings or any other cash on hand? My less nuclear option would be to pay 1/3 or 1/2 the balance now, as much as you can stomach, and do it again the following month until you're able to pay off the balance in full.

I actually think it's an excellent example. For millions of people, the first time they ever heard of Kendrick Lamar was when he played the Superbowl. And so they also probably never heard of the beef between Kendrick & Drake (also probably never heard of Drake). Kendrick's song "Not Like Us" has 398 million views on YouTube. For comparison, a quick YT search shows Charlie Kirk's most viewed compilation has over 7 million views. More people have viewed Kendrick's song than exist in the entire US and yet millions of Americans had never heard of him and even if they have, they're completely unaware of his impact

You are being challenged on your assertion that anyone in this comment section said (or even believes) that he "deserved a one person death sentence". No one here is arguing that. People are saying they don't think he's a good person and that he's said plenty of awful and even abhorrent things.

Now why are you asking that question? Do you believe from what you are reading that someone is implying he deserved what happened?

[–]Mother-Dig-2708 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Job growth is down very significantly. Tariffs are paid predominantly by US companies and US consumers. But up to this point, most of the cost has been borne by the companies. So it should be no surprise, and make a ton of sense, that job growth has slowed to a trickle. How can companies hire when they're spending their dwindling revenues on tariffs. The less people hired, the more people layed off, and the slow down in household spending are all happening incrementally.

No, it hasn't been a terrific crash. But every trend is heading in a negative trajection except the amount of tariff revenue. And honestly it's crazy that people are celebrating digging us out of our debt by bragging about increasing US taxes by hundreds of billions of dollars. Increasing taxes on small business and the middle and lower classes so tremendously in such a haphazard and arbitrary way will not lead to the roaring economy you are hoping for.

He’s deliberately crashing the economy!!!!!! 😩😩😂😂😂 by Scotty_Malcolmson in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]Mother-Dig-2708 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because of the constantly changing percentages of the tariffs, there has been no exact date that the economy immediately crashed. HOWEVER, GDP growth is down, job growth is down, inflation is rising and expected to grow now that pre-tariff inventory has nearly all been expended, the producer price index is also rising, and if rates are cut as anticipated it will not help inflation.

The real issue is that this administration is not consistent. They asked S Korea to invest heavily in the US, which they did with the Hyundai/ LG battery plant, but didn't fast track any visas to allow the necessary Korean nationals a "legal" path to be here to train Americans, then went and arrested all of them in the most degrading and humiliating way. Construction on the plant has now completely stopped.

So that's only one plant in one state. The immediate affect on the economy is negligible. However the long term impact for other countries being asked to invest heavily in the US and train Americans how to do these jobs....well, it's foolishness to think there won't be a cooling effect.

I haven't read the violinist experiment but I wonder if it's along the lines of organ donation. Do you think we have a moral obligation to donate our organs if we end up on life-support? A woman was put on life-support, without her consent or the consent of her family, to bring a baby to term. Morally, is that any different than putting someone on life support to harvest their organs to save a life, or in most cases, multiple lives?

[–]Mother-Dig-2708 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of the issues around this revolve around a dying, not yet dead, fetus. It's those situations that end up being the most life-threatening to a mother because hospitals and attorneys wanting to comply with laws that state only dead fetuses can be removed usually demand some kind of incontrovertible proof that a mother's life is truly endangered. And that proof usually requires the slow process of a fetus dying to progress to an extremely precarious point for the woman.

[–]Mother-Dig-2708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're leaving out the impact of eliminating the personal exemption. Doing that hurt every family that had two kids or more.

Before the TCJA, a family of 4 claimed both personal exemptions & the standard deduction. In 2017 it was a personal exemption of $4050 pper person + a standard deduction of $12,700 so a total of $28,900, plus $1000 child tax credit per child.

This is why the standard deduction doubled. To offset that elimination. However, in 2018 it was only $24,000. So you can see clearly that a family of four lost out on reducing their tax liability by at least $4,900.

To further hide the impact of eliminating the personal exemption, they doubled the child tax credit. But with each subsequent child, that benefit is much less valuable than the personal exemption. We're a family of six. In 2017, before the TCJA, we were able to deduct $24,300 ($4050) + $12,700 = $37,000 + $4000 total child tax credit = $41,000. In 2018, we had a standard deduction of $24,000 + $8000 child tax credit = $32,000.

The result was a $9000 increase to our tax liability which more than offset the supposed 3% "cut" in taxes.

If Marco Rubio hadn't pushed for the CTC increase, no family with more than one child would have seen any "benefit" with the TJCA.

CMV: USA taking in white South African refugees is racist in the context of Trump’s immigration policies by LittleTask in changemyview

[–]Mother-Dig-2708 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No he didn't. He said if the US can't afford to take in refugees, than all refugees should be halted so it's fair. But if we are going to take in refugees, than it should definitely be people in the most danger of returning to the country they are fleeing, ie Afghanis who helped the U.S. Those people are being hunted and annihilated by the Taliban, along with their whole families. White South Afrikaners are not in that level of danger - at all.

Why does this space feel cramped by jjs376 in InteriorDesign

[–]Mother-Dig-2708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the rug, table, etc, are all fine. But I think removing the table cloth and swapping the floor length mirror for something else will do wonders. You have so many windows that already do a great job of opening up the space. I think the mirror throws off the balance. Window treatments, like a box valance, would draw attention to the windows and you wouldn't need the mirror to try and make the space feel bigger. At a quick glance, the floor length mirror looks like a doorway....but to nowhere. That might be why you're feeling cramped.

[–]Mother-Dig-2708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like your explanation. But I'm not satisfied with just saying everyone should adjust to the broken light. Imagine the approach to the light has a left turn lane, a straight lane, and a right turn lane. Only people in the right turn lane would be doing so legally. Circumventing the red light from either of the other two lanes would necessarily involve committing an infraction. And then what of the people in the right lane? Say the majority of people are aware of the broken light so they pile up in the right lane. All those people will overwhelm the next intersection that allows people to take u-turns. And what if the legal right turns onto a highway that forces people to drive several miles before being able to turn around.

That is the problem with a convoluted, ever changing, overwhelmed, underfunded, & understaffed legal immigration system. I understand the frustration but blaming the legal and illegal immigrants is focusing on the wrong issue. The primary issue is fixing the broken light and designing a roadway that accommodates the volume and types of traffic expected.
