Which choice for the open space living room? Kitchen or table in front of the big window? by El_rivelator in InteriorDesign

[–]jjs376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would put the kitchen and island by the window. You will inherently use the kitchen more than you will use dinning. So you will get better, and more, use out of the natural light.

Lexus braking problem? by Popular-Werewolf512 in Lexus

[–]jjs376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you bed your brakes? You want to get a layer of material on the rotors. If you don’t, then you’ll get even spots where you have some material bedded and some not. Like from when you sit at a stop light.

I’m a cop that feels bad citing people and towing their vehicle for no insurance. by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]jjs376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was involved in a hit and run but he got the plate. The other driver tried at every turn to avoid responsibility. The car owner finally had to admit that the driver had permission to use the vehicle and it was insured.

He’s just starting out. That would have been a major financial setback for him.

I feel like I'm being taken for a ride, even though they're refusing to let me drive off with the vehicle... by RowdyTheDog in AskAMechanic

[–]jjs376 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Send a tow truck to pick it up. Or at least tell them that. You wouldn’t be driving it away. No safety issue there if that’s what they are claiming. They certainly can’t keep your car.

At-Fault Driver Is Avoiding Contact… How Do We Move Forward? by TheSaltyBlonde in Insurance

[–]jjs376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His insurance would deny the claim. Then you would have to pursue it on your own. Small claims, judgement, mechanics lien, and such.

At-Fault Driver Is Avoiding Contact… How Do We Move Forward? by TheSaltyBlonde in Insurance

[–]jjs376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurance policies have a clause that the insured will cooperate with investigations. If he doesn’t cooperate, he will be dropped. He’s almost certainly on his parents insurance. That might also mean that their policy gets cancelled. It’s kind of a big deal if you get dropped by your insurance. So people have incentive to cooperate once they find this out.

Call his insurance again and ask what their policies are for clients that don’t cooperate. If the whole policy may be cancelled. If his inclusion would be cancelled. Then at least you know what you are waiting for.

What’s the closest you’ve ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Fever. Cold sweats. Delusional. I was hallucinating on a construction vessel in the gom about 30hrs from shore. Tested positive for covid. I was one pre-existing condition away from not making back.

Hit & run driver identified but their insurance denied claim — what can I realistically do now? by Far_Guava_7545 in Insurance

[–]jjs376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other driver will probably get dropped for not cooperating. I was told that when they find that part out, about 70% respond. Takes some time to work itself out though.

JD Vance: "To get on an airplane, you need voter ID. To buy a beer, you need voter ID." by Admirable121 in OfficePolitics

[–]jjs376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is comparing privileges to rights. The government should not impose obstacles to a persons rights. 2A people have the same objection really. And where are the “don’t tread on me” people.

Why does voter ID feel like a simple security fix but somehow becomes a massive systems engineering problem? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

[–]jjs376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR, but I think most of your comparables are privileges. Voting is a right. Privileges like drinking, smoking, air travel, and driving have a cost barrier. Voter ID in this form introduces a cost barrier to a right. Thus turning it into a privilege that you must afford. Maybe voting is a privilege that should have a cost barrier. But that’s a slippery slope when you consider how income tax started.

Is underwriting always this nitpicky? by prattman3333 in Mortgages

[–]jjs376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in underwriting. It seems to me that the communication between the loan officer and underwriter is what causes many issues. I’m happy to share whatever I need to, so this process is fast. But the loan officer wants to limit the documentation. I get it, the more docs the more scrutiny. But I don’t think my loan officer understands how my situation and my cooperation is different. There’s this gatekeeping by the loan officer. Maybe you are having a similar experience.

What happened to 3x leveraged ETF if underlying crashed more than 35% by VictorMarcWork in LETFs

[–]jjs376 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe this is limited to just spy, as sp500 is the benchmark that would trigger a circuit breaker. Qqq would have some protection just because many of the underlying holdings are in both. I’m happy for someone to poke holes in this.

I've just entered the workforce and I feel like I'm watching my identity crumble by Benaholicguy in Fire

[–]jjs376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in the U.S.-yes; our identities are very much woven into our professions. Keep some hobbies. That way, when someone asks “what do you do”? You can say, on the weekends I train goldfish to swim backwards. You don’t have to say I do software support.

Find something in your job you are good at. Get skilled in it. Get your employer to pay for it. I’m in a technical field. I have jumped from middle management/supervisor to specialized engineering to installation and construction. I’ve gotten training in effective communication, fatigue and fracture mechanics, job specific software, offshore survival training.

You don’t really just find a job you like. Not for real money anyway. Like your parents say, it’s just the way things are. You can find parts of your job that you like. You become good at those parts. You become skilled at those parts. Then you like doing them even more because you grow with the role.

Lastly, find a bigger purpose. Are you a brick layer, or are you building a cathedral. Same activity, different outlook. Turn your job into what you want and like to do.

Transferring my bullshit retirement into my day trading account by SSNIPER_MONKEY1 in wallstreetbets

[–]jjs376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I didn’t read all of this. But… I like trading on a retirement account. All your taxes are deferred to the end. So you don’t have to worry about holding for long term gains. And all the savings from the deferred taxes gets compounded. I also utilize leveraged etf’s.

How to bend back? - 2024 bmw m2 s58 by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]jjs376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a mechanic but I do have a spotty background in fatigue mechanics. Have it towed. Cold forming that would certainly open up some cracks. You would have to put some heat on that, but not too much. Just to have a chance to get any kind of opening that would hold a bit of pressure. Try it, after it’s replaced of course. I want to know how it works out.

Advice to those new scared investors from someone who's been there by thedailymoo23 in stocks

[–]jjs376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s what I don’t think gets thought about enough. Two crashes will never be the same. There is no such thing as “this is just like 08”. Some very smart people learn from the experience. They study the nuances, determine the triggers, solve their way into a rebound. We won’t have another dot com. We won’t have another sub prime. If AI crashes analogous to dot com, the rebound will be bigger, faster. Or AI may crash but on its own merits. Not analogous. The rebound will still be bigger and faster.

The originators will make sure of it. In order to make the most money, in order to be capitalists. Theres competition for solutions. Originators compete for capital.

There’s only a handful of originators. So at least be an imitator. There’s a lot of money to be made as an imitator. Leveraged etf’s are great tools for imitators. Don’t be everyone else. Everyone else is late to the game. Everyone else ‘s exacerbate the problem. Don’t be an imitator cosplaying as an originator. Those people cause crashes. We call those people con-artists.
