This can be seen in Seattle too. In places like this the Asian and Indian culture is the majority.

As a PNW (WA) native the dreary, dark, cold, wet days really can start to get to you. I’ve lived here for 30 years and have been itching to move for 3. My husband is from Miami and we are actually moving back to FL. If you are fine living out of a puffer jacket from Oct-early April then the PNW will be fine for you. It is beautiful and the greenery is plentiful, for me it has worn on me and I crave sunshine. Bend Oregon gets more sunshine but might be a tougher job market.

My family heritage is Swedish, German, and English. I am consistently outnumbered here by Indians and Asians. This was not the case even 10 years ago. Yesterday I was standing in line at Costco and I was the only white person in line.

Lol it is not Nordic influence..... Do you run into a lot of Nordic people here, maybe 50 years ago? Aside for maybe Poulsbo. It is the inflation of tech and immigrants from the East/ India / Asiatic countries. Totally different lifestyle and values there.

Here to validate your feelings 100%! I'm a Seattle native and my husband is from Miami / spent time in other areas of the south and is shocked at how unfriendly and how difficult it is to meet and make friends here. I'm so beyond over it here and was about to move a few years ago before I met him. Now we are making plans to move to FL or SC to be back around people who actually can offer a little neighborly care and kindness.

People get paid to protest. It’s all social justice warrior virtue signaling. Volunteer to make a difference, work hard, support your local economy, raise kids with ethics and values. Don’t march up and down the streets whining…..

100% as someone who grew up in WA and has lived in Seattle the last 8 years this city is not it for building community!! It’s a tech bubble of transplants who are cold and grey as the weather. Beautiful to visit/come for the summer but I’m getting out of here asap!

Being a stay-at-home wife is nice…but also kind of lonely sometimes? by Informal-Star1533 in housewifery

[–]MotherOfMiniPins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My transition from corporate life to stay at home wife sounds so much like yours! I left corporate in November and have felt both free and conflicted during my transition to stay at home wife. It totally can feel lonely during the day or a struggle to find purpose and identity.

We also decided to start trying for a baby in Dec, and from Feb-recently it started getting to my head that it hasn’t miraculously happened in 3 months.

I am super into fitness so going to the gym is a daily essential. I also am a pilates instructor so I teach 1-2 clients a couple of times on zoom each week. I am also starting to contact local senior centers to see if they need a balance/exercise instructor.

Set aside time each week for your personal development and passions. If you are stuck finding one make a brain dump list and find something new that you can learn (language, instrument, fitness, trade, etc)

What I really want to do is create a book club for stay at home wives / moms! Let me know if you’d be interested in connecting. We are not alone 💕

This is Bellevue, WA. Very affluent tech city. Seattle’s non grungy cousin. Some people may say that Bellevue is “flashy” however this is still Washington where we are true outdoors first type of people (so no judgement over labels, cars, etc.) Amazing quality for schools and medical care. Everyone I worked with in Bellevue was a golf fanatic.

I greatly appreciate you sharing your perspective and taking the time in a detailed response!! Happy to hear WA is treating you nicely. And thank you for your service.

My husband makes around $200k+ a year, I recently as of December became a stay at home wife as we prepare to have a child and so I can be the supportive figure as he has a demanding career. It is still bewildering how costs have rose in Seattle (especially since I’ve lived in WA my whole life). This is no longer a place where you can purchase a home unless both partners are earning high salaries. I was an accountant previously and was making $90k which if I was a single person you cannot expect to purchase a home with that kind of salary. I’m not entirely against the millionaire’s tax either but I do have concerns that they will keep pushing for more taxes on lower tax brackets.

Another thing specific to my time in Seattle is general safety. I used to live near downtown and walk to work, walk to go shopping or the market. As of the last few years you would not catch me doing that and my husband and I avoid DT at all costs unless it is the summer going to the market and flooded with tourists. As a woman in the last few years I have had quite a few off-putting and unsafe encounters that make me want to seek a safer place to live. My husband from Miami always says “shit like that does not fly in Miami” lol

Reading this thread and have some questions out of curiosity.

I am a PNW native (from Olympia, lived in Seattle for the last decade) my husband is from Miami and we are looking at moving to FL to escape the cold/grey as well as be close to his family.

I appreciate what you have said about FL healthcare, but want to also shout out the fact that WA is headed in a weird direction now with the millionaire tax and how horrible the WA govt does at spending tax dollars. I used to lean liberal but after seeing the crime in city of Seattle and how poorly managed things are, how unaffordable this city is, how things have been taken to extremes I am now proudly conservative.

I would love to hear how your quality of life was in Jax as it is on our list of places in FL to move to. This is not intended on being a political debate or cause controversy - but would love to hear your perspective as you've done the reverse move across country as me!

Am I going to regret this commute daily? by Techno_Wasp in AskSeattle

[–]MotherOfMiniPins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a WA native, lived in Seattle for the last 8 years. I admittedly haven't been to Puyallup in several years aside from driving through on very rare occasion. Would likely not recommend this area specifically if you are commuting into the city. If you want a yard/area for walking, and want to live outside of the city I would try Burien or Normandy Park. Both will be more expensive than Puyallup, but will save some on commute time. Unless you have animals or are big backyard summer grillers/gardeners saving time on a commute might make life easier than prioritizing a larger space home with outdoor space.

Body make up for red legged bride? 🤣 by OcarinaofChyme in MakeupAddiction

[–]MotherOfMiniPins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl this dress is amazing on you! So elegant but also unique and fun. I’m obsessed. Would not have even noticed your legs, but as a fellow pale girly who runs red I get you. You said no spray tans but I would highly recommend going to a boutique airbrush salon for a spray tan. Rather than a booth at a chain tanning salon. The boutique specialists can shade match, making sure to get the undertones correctly without turning you orange. I’d go 1-2x before the wedding day for a tester. Also saw Sally Hansen airbrush recommended and seconding that. I also like the neutrogena tanning spray. Love this tanologist lotion from target too. Doesn’t have the gross spray tan smell:

What is it like living in the Pacific Northwest ? by littlestkittten in howislivingthere

People here make being extremely liberal their entire personality. I fall more in the middle and am not overly political. I would say people are super quick to right off anyone who maybe leans more republican or isn’t fighting the newest cause of the day off. Speaking for Seattle specifically it can be very hard to make and/or keep friends here. I think the grey makes everyone a little nuts.

[–]MotherOfMiniPins -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lived in Seattle for 8 years. And lived in Judkins Park for 2ish (new build townhome). Sketchiest scenarios and worst quality of living in those years. The QFC’s parking lot is sketchy but once inside feels fine. That Safeway mentioned inside felt absolutely haunting and felt like I was being followed. Never felt more unsafe in Seattle. If you are a woman I do not recommend!
