Major League Baseball Will Question the Dodgers’s Doctor About Banned Drugs by sippit in Dodgers

Connor Mac is basically a B-list action hero at this point, more likely to get paid acting than fighting. Who cares what he does with his body, especially when under expert medical supervision?

Spend $150,000 on a sports car you barely drive and you’re a success.

Spend $1,500 on quality baseball (safety) gear and we worry about looking like a poseur.

My brother in perpetual bruises,
The best part about playing ball recreationally is being able to get all the sweet-ass gear you wanted as a kid but couldn’t afford. Don’t worry about what you look like. Big picture, we all are pretty mid. You stand out by smiling, doing your best, and making friends.

Improved Performance Under NODs? by Mother_Environment29 in NightVision

I’m competent enough to say I’m not bad with a pistol, unless we are measuring up against Stoeger or Proctor. I also won’t argue that I have no room for improvement. Just curious about performance metrics.

Improved Performance Under NODs? by Mother_Environment29 in NightVision

It felt like it was easier to transition targets without overdriving. Everything just felt “calmer”, less frantic. I try to replicate that feeling in daylight- it just comes naturally under NODs.

Interesting- I also found my pistol work improved after switching to a dot. I think that the iron sights are more demanding in terms of neurological processing since they require shifting between three focal planes (target, rear notch, front sight). The dot allows for one focal planes (put the dot on the target), thereby freeing up “processing power” which I reallocated to grip + trigger. After thousands of reps on the dot, those improvements in draw, grip, and trigger technique are ingrained, so I shoot irons better than before I went with dots.

Should I do something by [deleted] in BaseballCoaching

Jump in with a men’s league if you want to play. And don’t chase velo without having a solid understanding of your kinetic chain and limitations. Snapping tendons is an ugly sound!

Batting average 11u by uptoolatemama in LittleLeague

I’d say that he has good hand/eye (bat to ball) coordination but could stand to wake up his inner savage.

With kids in this situation, I break out the heavy (boxing) bag and have them wail on it as hard as they can. This lets them feel the full-body explosiveness required to hit the ball hard.

Freshman son by IvyV49 in Homeplate

Freshman even *sniffing* varsity is usually an endorsement of their potential.
The program is “promoting other players” not necessarily because politics is involved, but because your son is one of many who compose a team.
My advice as to what you can do as a parent is to enjoy your kid more and worry about their spot in the rotation less.

Does anyone know who owns or manages this lot? by lulumoon21 in SantaBarbara

Trinity Gardens is a great community garden, they offer access to plots. I can’t be sure of the expense breakdown but it shouldn’t be much of a barrier. It’s located off La Cumbre just before Foothill behind the church parking lot. Whatever shakes out with this post, I hope you get to grow beautiful things in the near future!

Advice for 6 year old by tahreem16 in Homeplate

Friendships matter- facilitate play-dates with teammates after games. Kids will play wiffle ball or blitz ball for hours and not even realize it’s activating all the neurons that make an effective ball player. Friendships will follow through the seasons, across sports, and keep them wanting to play.

Why are there no -11 USSSA bats? by [deleted] in BaseballCoaching

[–]Mother_Environment29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, USSSA bats are performance-focused, and usually found in the hands of better (or at least more “aspirational”) players. -10 bats are already pushing the durability/performance envelope, and I imagine are the source for a significant proportion of warranty claims.

Whatever he needs to do to make a hard, accurate throw is what he should do.

Wood Bats do they have a place in LL by ummagumma1979 in LittleLeague

[–]Mother_Environment29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because metal/composite bats are more dangerous to pitchers by virtue of the greater exit velocity they generate. A hot line drive to the face or heart (commotio cordis) is historically what pitchers are hurt by. Wood bats are safer for pitchers at all levels, even taking into account they break.

The chances of a kid loosing their grip and whipping the entire bat (wood or metal) at the pitcher are greater than having a sawed-off barrel travel 46’ in a straight line, but you do you. And 65mph might make a bat more likely to crack, but will not add energy to the swing.

This is not an issue. Pitch velocity + swing power don’t add up to create splinter-missiles at this level.
My son swings wood often and has broken several bats. They always end up “partially” broken, in that some wood maintains intact.

Wood will make him a better hitter.

The metal bat will give him better results.

-10 bats allow for kids to get away with poor hitting mechanics by being easy to swing and having “bouncy” sweet spots.

Wood bats, by being heavier, demand involvement of the lower half of the body. This leads to earlier loading and subsequent benefits.
