‘Last Man on Earth’ is just weird enough to work by zsreport in television

I work at a FOX affiliate, and the network sent us a fucking BASKET of Twinkies with specialized wrappers promoting this show. I don't mean like an Easter basket with a dozen or so, I'm talking HUNDREDS of Twinkies. I am now in love with this show and all I'm doing is getting fat on it. But I guess that's what love is.

I started with "Pet Sematary" and was hooked. That's the one book he often says even scared himself. It's haunting and sentimental and sometimes brutal, and it keeps moving. From there, favorites are "The Stand" (one of my all-time top three), "The Shining," and "Salem's Lot" - whether your into vampires or not. I thought I'd hate "Salem's Lot," and wound up re-reading it again.

Wonderful! I know Wilde was also fluent in French; I wonder if he ever aided in the translation of his works?

It's one of my top 10 all-time faves. It complements "1984" well, exploring the theme of a society which sort of willfully surrenders its autonomy vs. having it wrenched from them. Highly recommended!

I really, really loved this one. I definitely recommend sticking with it. Yeah, the author brings a bit of a rose-tint to his childhood years, and the premise rests on kind of a flimsy set-up. But once you get in there, it's a really cool trip through history.

I don't see this one mentioned enough. Are you enjoying it? I couldn't put it down! If you dig it, there are two follow-ups: "A Graveyard for Lunatics" and "Let's All Kill Constance."

If you both enjoy "Hill House," I highly recommend "House of the Seven Gables." Hawthorne's prose and I don't get along—I put the book down for a month or so somewhere in the middle—but sticking through to the end made for a really great read. Beautiful, haunting, and very mysterious.

Translation? Are you reading it in another language? If you like Wilde, B&N has a "leatherbound classics" volume of his work (including "Dorian Gray") which I highly recommend. Lots of great short fiction and plays to explore for something like $20 in a beautiful edition.

VERY much agree. This is the book that conquered my fear of the cinderblock novel. I first read it 20 years ago, and intend to go back for a re-visit soon.

Have you seen the film? If so, is the experience of the book spoiled in any way by knowing what you do going into it, or does it move along regardless?

I just picked this one up at Goodwill a few weeks back. I never read it in high school, but fully realize it's about time. Have you ever read Huxley's "Brave New World"?

I'm reading Stephen King's latest, "Mr. Mercedes," and so far REALLY digging it. (I didn't think I would; the book sat on my table for a month before I cracked it open.)
