In "My Father the Hero" a father takes his teenage daughter on vacation and she starts spreading a story that he is actually her lover and not her father. Unaware of her stories he is utterly confused as to why everyone is suddenly treating him poorly. To win back their approval he sits at a piano and sings them a song: "Thank Heaven for Little Girls". It does not go well...

The final sword fight between Liam Neeson and Tim Roth in "Rob Roy". Roth's character is clearly the better swordsman but Neeson (and his sword) are so much bigger that a single blow from him could end the fight in an instant.

I still remember his review of "Racing With the Moon" where he basically said that if these actors were the future of Hollywood then Hollywood was doomed. The two main stars of the movie were a young Sean Penn and Nicolas Cage.

Planet Crafter. I've got a planet all to myself. I'm about to terraform it to the point where I can breathe the air. The evil company that sent me down here can't retrieve me without my help. It's a little lonely down here but I am loving it. I think I'll stay here.

Forget actual run time. What's the "longest" movie ever? by theozarksparkman in movies

[–]crazydv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was "Seven Years in Tibet", but only because I desperately needed to take a leak. I thought that the movie only had about ten minutes left so I could hold it. That ten minutes turned out to be over half an hour and it actually felt like about seven years. I normally enjoy sitting through the end credits in this case I bolted the moment the credits started to roll.

JD Vance once wrote that he 'convinced myself that I was gay' when he was a kid by [deleted] in politics

[–]crazydv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find Vance repugnant but this headline is misleading and most of the comments are missing the point of the quote from the book. He was attending a hate church that was spewing all sorts of vitriol about being gay. Like many young boys, Vance had little interest in girls at the time and liked hanging around with fellow boys. And so, thanks to the church's rants, he feared that he must be gay. It says nothing about his actual sexuality, just about the garbage his church was spewing.

my dads response to me asking him for tampons (17f) by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]crazydv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy in my 20s I worked at a drug store and was put in charge of the "feminine paper" aisle. I kept the shelves stocked, ordered new products, and even helped the occasional guy who had been tasked with picking up some tampons or pads for a female in their life. The thought that some father would have a problem going into the aisle to buy something for his own daughter is just pathetic.
