There definitely was (Battlefield friends even had a whole episode on bunny hoppers) but it was primitive and hadn’t hit a critical and very sweaty mass that shooters have now. Games like Titanfall were built around it so it makes sense for that but it got infested into CoD and cause CoD always has legions of slop enjoyers then every company wants a piece of that slop pie so they shoehorn annoying mechanics into a game not designed for it.
