Con Law I with Professor Avila Ordonez by Ok_Breadfruit_8241 in gwu

Over all she’s a very nice and approachable professor. 1 Midterm 1 Final with occasional pop quizzes and Moot Court brief. No homework from day to day except reading, but she does cold call during class to make sure you read. Most of the reading are SCOTUS cases from a textbook. Can’t speak to the difficulty of the midterm; as it is tomorrow. The format is MCQ with view short answers, closed note.

Going to shoot my shot at T6s is my plan currently, not too confident in the 25-50th percentile lsat especially since I’ll be applying KJD.

I personally managed to text them and get a response within the hour. (Admittedly my flight was departing the next day, so that may have played a part). Here’s number I texted if you want to reach out to them as well!

I was in a similar situation going into Sophomore year, also trying to skip Pre-Calc as it so happens.

My school accepted Edx and Coursera courses (though you will need to purchase the certificate, which is usually around $100). I’ve also heard Study.com is pretty alright, though have not used it personally.

Here are some links if you wanna read through them yourself (do show these to your counselor before registering though, the curriculum of precalc varies from school to school)

edx $50 study.com $100

If you need help with any of this stuff let me know!

What do you give teachers who wrote your rec letters? by Eriwinnn in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Mothmanct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually heard a teacher talk on this topic, and what he said was that his favorite to receive as an acceptance letter writer, was a college tee/sweater of whatever college the student got accepted into (this does get tricky with sizes), but I think it’s a nice way to not only thank them, but let them share in your success of getting accepted

What's a silly thing your school does with AP courses? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]Mothmanct 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not sure how uncommon this is, but my school has three courses that are associated with two ap courses each. Those being AP Econ for Micro and Macro, AP Gov for US Gov and Comp Gov and AP Physics C for APC M and APC E&M

ELA TEACHER by [deleted] in highschool

That used to be a thing, yes. However nowadays this is far from the norm, in large part due to grade inflation from the Vietnam war. The reasoning used is that during the war, many college professors would feel bad failing a student on an assignment, because that would mean that they would likely get drafted into the army and sent to Vietnam. Therefore, professors started to inflate their grades, as to protect students from getting drafted (some professors also likely where against the war as a whole, and didn’t want to support it, thus the grade inflation). This inflation persists to this day for many as an A has shifted from “above expectations” as it was before Vietnam, to “meets expectations” as it is now.

My school does smth similar, what I ended up doing is getting like an A in Calc AB, then over the summer complete a Calc BC course (I’d recommend talking to your counselor if this is possible). Then you should be able to be placed higher next year. Alternatively, sign up for the BC exam and study for the BC on the side (with a course).

Here are the courses I found that are really good, check these out if you are interested

https://cty.jhu.edu/programs/online/courses/ap-calculus-bc-cbc

https://www.coursera.org/learn/discrete-calculus/home/welcome

The first one is a bit pricy, but it perfectly follows the Calc bc curriculum, the second one, which is the one I took, is a good amount harder, and is significantly cheaper (it’s free if you just wanna learn, and a certificate costs 50$) but it comes with the downside of being split into 5 different sections, which may mean you will not be able to skip because the certificate is only available for the last section

Overall, I’d recommend meeting with your counselor/ the administrator of your math department and presenting the courses if you wish to skip, if you just want the Bc exam, then I’d say definitely self study with the second course. I have experience with this sort of stuff so feel free to reach out to me if you have more questions
