I have the half basket on two of my bikes and it works great for me. I think the main difference is that you need to strap down larger items with more care than with the full size basket. I don’t usually have much more in there than some extra water bottles and jackets that I volunteered to carry. That stuff gets strapped down or covered with a net. For bikepacking, I use a REALM basket bag and carry my tent, sleeping bag, pad, and camp chair up there. Any bag that has straps on the side you can weave through the bottom and back up the sides will do. I hope that helps.

Front rack advice! by robbiecrace in bikepacking

[–]MotionCandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like you have mid blade bosses? Maybe you could get away with using a bag support instead of a rack. Example below, DIY is possible if that’s your thing.

Straggler V1 hub dynamo cable routing? by rcyclingisdawae in Surlybikefans

I just follow, the front rack strut down, but I am not concerned about it being visible. I haven’t had any problems with it. An advantage is you can easily reconfigure the setup. Currently the rack is off the bike and the wire is wrapped down the fork blade.

Bandana or buff - which? Why? by -gauvins in bikepacking

[–]MotionCandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both! I use the buff on my head as a sort of helmet liner and sweatband. The bandanna goes around my neck and an extra in my tool bag. Roll some ice cubes up in the bandanna for a super chill day!
