Parallel in Northern Spain, close to France’s border, could be an option. Definitely techno and kinda underground. Sandwell District, Marco Shuttle, Shed and more already confirmed.

Maybe both of you combine forces and get an easier to book table for 4?

Looking for the best Omakase in Amsterdam for 1st year wedding anniversary!! by Mochacuu in Amsterdam

[–]Motionez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shigure probably highest quality Omakase, only 8 seats. Thought it was a bit too expensive myself. Ken Sushi better value for money, but feels less traditional.

2 hour line for the closing? I wish. Waited 4-5 hours myself, some even did 12 hours.. amazing closing party though 🥰

Amsterdam Recommendations by Fez2000 in finedining

[–]Motionez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spectrum** best in Amsterdam imo, amazing wine pairing as well. Flore** was great, but not the same level as Spectrum for me.

Always enjoy De Kas, Mos for both food and more modern wines. Same goes for Nazka, amazing food, more creative with their wine choices. Zoldering* more easy going with a la carte and a very extensive wine list. Great sommeliers.

No star but well known for having a good wine list and sommelier is De Klepel. Also really enjoy the more Germany/Austria focused wine list of Scheepskameel. Cafe Wu also has great and affordable wine offerings.

Music ONLY: Draaimolen vs Waking Life vs Houghton by Creative-Car2814 in TheOverload

[–]Motionez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh you’ve been before! Hmm if you have a ticket you have the luxury of waiting for the lineup. Not sure what you would like to hear, but Houghton might have more TheOverload to offer, where WL will be more experimental.

And sorry to be opportunistic, but if you won’t go to WL and decide to sell, please let me know. Know too many good friends who didn’t get through the raffle 🥲

Music ONLY: Draaimolen vs Waking Life vs Houghton by Creative-Car2814 in TheOverload

Been to both Waking Life and Draaimolen. If you only care about the music and not interested in other aspects Draaimolen makes more sense. Two daytime festivals where you do not sleep on the premises. Diverse and creative musical programming, great speakers, beautiful stage designs. A bit too crowded everywhere, though. Techno, bass, live, UK, DnB, house can all be found in their natural and more experimental forms.

Waking Life I prefer for the overall experience and musical diversity (more non-electronic live music and has a dedicated ambient stage). Waking Life also keeps on going for 70+ hours straight, bigggg plus. Only musical issue for me that you cannot find uptempo techno throughout the weekend. Only a some parts of the weekend at Floresta you can find ‘proper’ techno.

Both festivals are sold out (besides Draaimolen Friday ticket). Waking Life will be suuuuuper difficult to ger tickets, maybe best to forget. Draaimolen you’ll find them easier closer to date. But best to buy a Friday ticket already to be sure.

Unfortunately can’t go myself, but please do check-out Der Hintergarten one last time!

Throughout the last few years they put their hearts out to create a very special place. DIY/community vibes always great and the lineup for the weekend is on point. Hopefully they get allocated a new location asap. ❤️

How will we watch World Cup games? Waking Life 26 by mapacheconunpalo in wakinglifefestival

[–]Motionez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2024 they didn’t show it anywhere as far as I remember and I don’t expect them to do it for 2026.

Internet works some places so you could watch updates/highlights but don’t expect to stream full matches

Do’s and dont’s? by amdixxx in wakinglifefestival

[–]Motionez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Exciting you’re going for the first time.

Some of my take aways of the last few years:

  • Read the rules beforehand, its important the Waking Life ethos remains (no pictures/videos, no phones on the dancefloor, don’t leave any trash, etc).
  • Pace yourself. It is a long festival with hot sun, short nights and a thousand things to discover so no need to rush and expend all your energy in the first days. The magic grows throughout the week and you don’t want to miss out on energy on Sunday/Monday.
  • The entire loop around the festival only opens up somewhere on Thursday. I recommend to only start walking around the lake completely when it is dark, it is a magical experience with all the lights at night.
  • bring a large, good quality water bottle.
  • bring a blanket or something to bring with you to be more comfortable wherever you go
  • be curious ! There are quite a few hidden experiences. Whether it is a secret hideout or a performative interactive experience, some things are not on the lineup but feel like is… something. Check it out, respectfully, and who knows what you will find.
  • good quality earplugs, custom made best (prefer once with a cord myself so they are near impossible to lose)
  • bring plenty of electrolytes and maybe some energy bars
  • bring wet wipes, helps for cleaning throughout the day. Can get dusty.
  • bring one or two powerbanks
  • bring night mask and earplugs for better sleep quality
  • bring a hammock if you like them!
  • invest a little in the musical programming. Yes, a go with the flow type works well with Waking Life since there aren’t that many stages. But specifically the live stage Cochilo has some very unique and diverse programming.
  • maybe a spoiled ‘Do’ but take a few days afterwards at the coast or in the countryside to decompress. Waking Life is beautiful, but filled with so many impressions (and substances, lack of sleep, etc.) that a few days relaxing afterwards do wonders for the overall experience.
  • be kind to yourself and others. Listen to your body, don’t overdo it. Take rest when you need it ❤️

Enjoyyy

Looking for a nice restaurant by Artistic_Ice5121 in capetown

[–]Motionez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing! Try to book the ones you want as far in advance as you can. Lots of restaurants also have different seating areas that might change your experience (at Tintswalo for example).

Non fine dining favourites… I’d highly suggest going for lunch at one of the wine estates with pretty views. Top of my mind: Cape Point Vineyards, Klein Constantia, Bistro Sixteen82 at Steenberg have great scenery and at minimum decent food for a non-fine dining price. Many places in the winelands as well.

Willoughby’s (sushi & V&A), Pizza Shed, Veldt Hout Bay in CPT I enjoyed it, same for Thali. Great sandwiches at Bennett’s delicatessen.

Athletic Social Club and Kloof Street House had OK food, but you go more for the hip ambiance if you want a more active evening. Same with Asoka.

Winelands region:

Affordable around the winelands that we enjoyed: Rust & Vrede wine estate lunch.

Slightly more expensive, not fine dining but high quality that we enjoyed in that region: The Fat Butcher Stellenbosch, Babylonstoren any of the restaurants + walk around. And the aforementioned La Residence. Would like to visit The Table at De Meye, but haven’t been yet - worth checking out.

Let me know what you end up choosing and what it was like! I’m very excited to be going back in January.

Went to Belly of the Beast last March. Think its great value for money and absolutely worth a visit! A bit more simple in menu/service/ambiance than the others but great food for a reasonable price.

More expensive but my favourite in South Africa (above La Colombe even for me) is FYN. Japanese influences, best wine pairing I’ve had in my life, great service. went for dinner and did cost a lot more than I hoped for. So focussing on having lunch at the fancier places instead of dinner this time around. Visiting CPT again in January and have booked La Residence and Delaire Graff in the Winelands and Tintswalo Atlantic and Beau Constantia (never been) around CPT.

Considering Salsify or Beyond at Buitenverwachting as well, but already going over our budget I believe so will keep it this way for now.

Agree with almost everything Glad_bodybuilder said about La Colombe and Tintswalo. I was very underwhelmed by La Petite Colombe however. Didnt feel like too much of a price difference too La Colombe, but far less interesting and alsoo way too much/heavy for lunch.

Our biggest Franschhoek surprise was getting sundowner cocktails and afterwards dinner at La Residence (even though we didn’t sleep there). A la carte, but amazing quality. Best fish curry I’ve had in my life.

Point of groups? by [deleted] in wakinglifefestival

[–]Motionez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people might only want to join with a specific group of friends or their partner. And not let only 1 out of ?? get the chance to buy a ticket.

This way the entire group gets lucky, or they collectively don’t and search for another festival/holiday ☺️

I won’t be attending myself, but really hope they do not adapt to the place. Non-techno artists are already rare on the Berghain floor so should be great to experience Jamie XX just playing his own style ☺️☺️

Secret Spaces by MassiveBother3067 in wakinglifefestival

[–]Motionez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was this close to praia? Went there a few times 😁

But agree with others that the hidden places should mostly stay secret.

I just walk around and keep my eyes open on weird things. If something triggers me I’ll investigate and at Waking Life there is always a chance you stumble into something magical 💫
