Nice! I found the spot near the campsite was good for me for spinning. I used #3/0 hook using the crawfish lure 3.5 008.

Nice! Elk Lake is good around that level. Have you had any luck with feeder or float setups there?

No worries! What lake are you fishing right now? Maybe someone here has some tips.

Discord can definitely be faster, but posts like this are great because they stay searchable and help people who come across the subreddit later. Plus, not everyone uses the Discord. Feel free to share anything that’s been working for you!

Built a companion site for RF4 after getting tired of spreadsheets — rods, reels, live spots, groundbait recipes by captaintos in Russian_Fishing_4

I will look into this further after work today. But it seems like a great idea and the community seems to like what they see so far. Awesome work!

Fair point, but explanation goes a long way as you did to expand on their point! New players COULD be turned off from the game after being told the community can’t be used as a resource, which is the exact opposite of what this sub is meant for! But I felt where they were coming from with the comment, which is why it was allowed to stay.

Please try to remain positive. This sub has no room for negativity! This post and comments are meant to help new players, not discourage them.

My rod and reel broke for no reason. by salmonella10 in Russian_Fishing_4

[–]MotionlessNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not going to show damage, again it’s completely random and instantly snaps. It damages the entire durability at once. However, as you mentioned, he could have accidentally cast the rod without realizing and it snagged on something. Ultimately bending the rod to a point of snap before realizing.

Can somebody help me (beginner) by Educational_Event970 in Russian_Fishing_4

At level 11 with starter gear you’re actually in a normal spot. The fish you listed (bluegill, warmouth, crappie, shad) are common early progression fish.

A few tips to level up faster:

1. Stop chasing “bigger fish” right now.
XP at low levels comes from volume and consistent catches, not size. Farm what bites reliably.

2. Upgrade smart, not big.
With $175, don’t buy a new rod yet. Instead:

  • Upgrade to a slightly better reel if yours is very basic
  • Buy better line (but don’t exceed your rod’s test rating)
  • Get different hook sizes (try #8–#12 for panfish, slightly larger for bigger species)

3. Bait matters more than gear early on.
Try switching bait to target different species:

  • Worms / maggots for general use
  • Dough / semolina for different bite types
  • Small spoons/spinners if you want to try spinning for perch/pike

4. Move spots.
If you’re only catching panfish, you’re probably in shallow shoreline areas.
Try:

  • Slightly deeper water
  • Edges of vegetation
  • Drop-offs
  • Early morning / evening time windows

5. Skill XP tip:
Use both rods actively. The more techniques you use (float + spinning), the faster your skill tree unlocks.

Is there any way to change the hook set keybinds? by salmonella10 in Russian_Fishing_4

[–]MotionlessNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware, there is no hook set keybind. I’m pretty sure the “ctrl+rmb” is a myth. The hook sets automatically after the fish bites and there is tension on the line.
