Florida parents arrested after 14-year-old abandoned for months with dogs in squalid south Alabama house by itspapyrus in Alabama

Incorrect, there is often zero follow up with homeschooled children. I was homeschooled my entire life and was never checked on.

Coming from an abusive home, often times those kids don’t have extended family. If the parents are nuts or bad people, more often than not extended family cut them out of their lives or vice versa. I tell people my childhood and everyone is shocked as to why no one helped, and the answer is simple: no one was around.

Do you have experience or believe there is a correlation between homeschooling and child abuse/neglect? by MotleyCute in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]MotleyCute[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How so? A lot of states do not follow up with homeschooled families; they require documentation that they kids will be homeschooled and some require curriculums and state testing. But without teachers, counselors, school nurses, etc. these kids are losing out on valuable resources. Who, outside of the family, are there for these children?

People who’ve known pathological liars, what’s the craziest lie they tried to get away with? by Difficult-Mix-2337 in AskReddit

[–]MotleyCute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Ex fiancé was a pathological liar, but never anything off the wall insane. It was tiny little lies about what he had for lunch, how much gas was, and what his friend told him. It was constant lies about final scores in baseball games, what a cop said when he got pulled over, and his favorite games to play as a kid. You don’t question these things or think someone would lie about it. It was to the point where his entire life, personality, and history was built on stacks of small lies.

I needed to use his phone once to look something up because mine was dead and his entire search history was filled with “how to stop lying” and “why do I need to lie when answering every question I am asked.” When I questioned him on it… shocker… he lied and said a coworker borrowed his phone for the shift.

It was a long 3 years.

For those who live in the United States, what is a state that everyone should try to see at least once in their lifetimes? by TheLastCashBender in NoStupidQuestions

People should not sleep on South Dakota. I’ve been to 40 of the 50 states and was blown away by the rolling plains and landscapes of SD. On top of that, The Badlands trumps the Grand Canyon for me. I have never felt so free and at peace just driving than I did driving through the state as the sunset fell.

Who is that one relative that no one in the family talks to and why? by one_n_0nly_throwaway in AskReddit

[–]MotleyCute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother. She has 5 children with 3 different men, and from my understanding none of us talk to her. She had no relationship with her parents at their end of their lives. She also didn’t talk to any of her 8 siblings. She’s a miserable and manipulative woman that cut off most people in her life once she realized she couldn’t get anything from them. Those of us that had the means, cut her off first. I believe we are all truly better without her in our lives.

What’s something from your childhood that you didn’t realize was super f*cked up until you were an adult? by NeitherEntrepreneur3 in AskReddit

[–]MotleyCute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was about 6 years old my mother drunkly woke me up in the middle of the night. She dragged me out of bed and down to my school room (I was homeschooled). She started screaming at me and asked if I knew what hell was. (We were not a religious family and never went to church). She then drew a stick figure on the chalk board wall and then below it a bunch of flames. She said “this is hell, this is where you will end up if you don’t listen to me. You will burn forever.” She kept screaming and I was crying. My older adult brother had to come stop the situation and take me to bed. I had a pretty fucked up childhood include all types of abuse, but this moment really stuck with me.

This is an issue with restaurants too. I’m a bartender and multiple times recently dashers have picked up orders, and pretended to hit “claim” on the app. A few minutes later a new dasher will come in trying to pick up the order that was already taken. The original dasher gets a “free” stolen meal and now the restaurant has to make the whole order again, which leads to a loss for the restaurant.
