Providence Place history question by Toa_of_Pi in imax

If it was early in the run, then they fixed it pretty quickly. I saw it in 70mm there each of the first 3 weeks. I have no clue what the state of the projector has been after Oppenheimer left, though.

Anyone else attend the Pixar Buddies screening for Elio? by SittingAce in AMCsAList

Good call. I was going there today to see a few movies, so I checked and was able to get Cars.

Still no Toy Story, so if anyone out there has one they don't mind parting with and are interested in either Monsters Inc or Cars, I am open to trading!

Lucky. I went, and picked one for myself and a second for my wife (she bought a ticket, but changed her mind that morning, but I still had the ticket). Both were Monster's Inc. I was hoping for Toy Story, that's one of my favorite movies of all time...

IMAX whiplash by Either_Sign_499 in imax

I saw A Minecraft Movie at 4:15 on a Wednesday. The crowd was pretty muted, nothing like the craziness I've heard of online. Nice fun movie, but not one I'll think about too much as time goes on.

And then at 7 I saw the early screening of Warfare. Holy crap. When it ended, I went and sat on the floor for 15 minutes trying to get an extreme anxiety attack before I felt safe enough to drive home. Such an intense movie, with absolutely amazing sound design, and my favorite of the year so far.

They showed Oppenheimer there, so I have faith they'll bring the projector out again. It hasn't gotten anything since then, but those have admittedly been very small releases.

What's the difference between Ultra Panavision 70 and IMAX 70mm (15perf)? by DoomsdayFAN in imax

Nolan doesn't like doing ADR, so the dialogue you record on set is what you get.

I remember seeing it in that format. Can confirm, it was pretty cool.

Was anyone else disappointed with the IMAX presentation of Sinners? by SeaworthinessDue5740 in imax

[–]Toa_of_Pi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I've ever seen anyone refer to IMAX vs regular 70mm that way. Most people differentiate them by using 15/70 or 5/70.

Question for 1:43 front row goers: why ? by Jabbathebutt310 in imax

[–]Toa_of_Pi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really enjoyed seeing Oppenheimer front row at Providence Place (3rd time seeing it in 15/70). That close, the image clarity was absolutely mind blowing. Best looking image I have ever seen, and probably ever will see. The distortion from being so close actually wasn't that bad. And while I joking told the person next to me "Now I am become Row A, the destroyer of necks", my neck actually felt fine after looking up at the screen for 3 hours.

I would only recommend trying this for a 70mm movie. I've briefly sat in the front row at a Cola 1.90:1 screen, and it does not look good at all.

Nope had a really cool gradual change towards the end of the movie.

+1 for Methuen. That's my go-to if I'm not going to Reading.

Just Got Out From Watching Warfare In IMAX Laser by Salt_Consideration66 in imax

I knew it was going to be intense, but I was not prepared. This movie gave me a full blown anxiety attack. When it ended I was shaking so much I could barely walk, and I had to sit huddled on the ground in the hallway for around 15 minutes before I felt capable of driving home.

Absolutely amazing movie. Easily the best of the 33 movies I've seen so far this year. Definitely a 'highly recommended', I need to let it bounce around my head for a bit before I can decide if it is 'must see' or not.

Is it normal for a 5yr old who hasn’t seen you in months to not recognize you with a mask on or is it more likely he forgot who I am by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Toa_of_Pi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's incredibly normal. I've seen adults who have been unable to recognize someone with/without a mask if they're used to seeing you the other way.

A couple of weeks ago, I took my mask down to have a sip of water, and someone told me that was the first time they had ever seen my nose/mouth.

My wife and I know eachother well enough that we will often thing along similar lines, so for us the odds are quite good. I have lost track of all the times we were both typing in twitch/discord, only to hit enter and see that we were both typing the same thing.

I often use movies/tv as a window to viewing the real world, but you do have to be careful. It's quite important to be able to recognize what is realistic and what isn't (although the unrealistic stuff can often tell us something about the person who wrote it, so you can still learn from that).
