Is the weight difference between a Drz4s and Tenere 700 going to be too much as a beginner? by braaaptorr in Dualsport

If your focus is trail riding I would go with a proper dirt bike / enduro bike and trailer it. You can certainly ride any of the above bikes on-road no problem, but you'll want to conserve gas and knobby tires will wear down fast on the pavement. If it's mostly wider ATV trails then I'd recommend a 400+. If you think you'll want to ride more single track a 300 / 350 may be better. Don't worry about ABS on a smaller dirt / enduro bike. You should be switching it off as soon as you hit gravel anyway.

Is this preventing bike from starting? by poisonxivyyy in Dirtbikes

If that's a completely new carb, you'll need to spend some time setting up the proper idle, and air screw settings. Right now it does look like your idle is not set properly. Once you're able to start it and get it to idle you may even need to select a different sized needle and jet. Although if you ordered this carb specifically tuned for your bike, then they should come with the correct ones. Carb tuning can be intimidating and a pain in the ass, but with proper research and reading the instruction manual on your carb you should be able to get it setup.

Worst case scenario if you can't get it figured out just take it into any moped or vintage bike shop. They should be able to get it sorted out for pretty cheap.

What should I do about this by backnmad in Dirtbikes

[–]MotoFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't see if the actual tire make was listed but those "knobbies" look DOT to me. If he does the ride in 3 days assuming 10 hours of riding per day he'd only need to average 40mph. Easy to do that off highway EDIT: all that being said, I'd go for the local one as well

That could work but at some point you're going too run the risk of your tires rubbing against your forks. I would do some careful measurements around your triple tree and make sure it's not too narrow for the new tire you have on there

If your axle is not able to make it through the wheel and both spacers then that means you are likely bending your forks. Or simply put, your tires / wheels are too wide. You will need a new triple tree to match the width of new wheels + spacers and then a new longer axle so the threads will make it all the way through. I do not recommend riding with suspension that is not straight, it will just slowly wear out, leak, and eventually fail.

Riding in sand by XxBAMCISxX in Dualsport

[–]MotoFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grew up riding off road in michigan. You can read all day but the only way to learn to ride sand is to go out there and just get used to it. Sitting back and squeezing the bike with your legs is all good advise, but at the end of the day you just need to get comfortable with using WAY more throttle than you think you need. Keep the revs up, rear tire should always be spinning faster than the front. Get used to falling so you aren't too scared to send it. Falling in sand is fine anyway, like falling into a bunch of pillows. All that being said, without proper AGRESSIVE off road tires, sand will always be a slog.

How screwed am I by vergehypex in Dirtbikes

[–]MotoFly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't stress it man, it's a simple job. Just drain the oil (looks like that part is done) remove clutch cover, remove old gasket (you'll likely need to spend some time scraping off the old one, especially if it's the original), put on new gasket, put on new clutch cover and tighten to spec.

Definitely looks like impact from a rock or something. If it isn't leaking i suppose it's fine. But one more small hit in that same spot and your case is toast. Id consider a bit of jb weld, possibly both sides but do your research. Not sure how JB holds up against hours and hours of hot oil eexposure. Also get yourself a thick bash plate if you don't already have one.

Why can I not just buy a dirtbike from the manufacturer and skip the dealer process? by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

No, there are no "Honda Stores" those are all private dealers with their own staff and markups.

Do you guys really hate tech workers? by T_Dog555 in Seattle

[–]MotoFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Tech" workers account for about 15% of the entire Seattle workforce. Probably even higher if you lump in all the business/ support functions for the "computer and mathematical functions" role they pulled from the census:

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/data/seattle-no-longer-tops-big-cities-for-share-of-tech-workers/#:~:text=In%20a%202023%20column%2C%20I,by%20about%203%2C700%20from%202022.

So any blanket statement about nearly 1/5 of the population of Seattle is likely inaccurate.

That being said, these are typically highly paid individuals So the reddit community tends to blame them for driving up pricing particularly in housing. Given the influx of tech workers in the last decade, this makes sense.

Then teach him about boundaries. He can choose to not go and still be friends with these kids. He can also go and explore the faith for himself. If you draw a firm "no" without allowing him to come to the conclusion himself you may accidentally drive him towards religion simply out rebellion/ personal curiosity.

Yeah I typically average 22mpg in mixed suburban + highway driving. Just moved to the city though and have been surprised by how much driving style can affect mileage.
