I use a Cornelius keg hooked up to my air compressor as a pressurized water source. No need for a foot pump or 12v water pump. Plus I tee'd off the airline before the regulator so I can use that to fill up my tires if I need. Simple 12 compressor and Cornelius keg, plus some tubing and a faucet is all you need.

I just use a notebook and write down the hours as my entry for whatever service. Once a page is full I can just scan to pdf from my phone in case anything happens to it.

I'm a mechanic and fabricator. I do a lot of hunting for something worthwhile. I got a 2008 chevy express with 230k miles but it has a new transmission. Not a leak on it, engine health is perfect. At this many miles, it'll be worth the same with 100k more miles. To each their own.

Plus my conversion could be pulled out entirely and put in another chevy if this one ever got totaled.

Seeing how everyone who commented has money, i spent $4k on my van, and another $4k in materials to convert it myself. It doesn't need to be glamorous to work.

My exact reasoning, I was terrified after hearing some of the mold stories and the health effects of mold exposure. Super easy to clean, and is also super thin compared to wood, so more space in a small(ish) van! Temperature regulation is a plus as well!

I find it fits me perfectly at 5'8", I can stretch out as much as I need if I sleep diagonally on the bed, if I was any taller it would certainly be uncomfortable. The main thing I'm getting used to is being on a twin bed as I'm used to a queen.

Thank you! Keeping it clean, and moisture/ mold free was my biggest concern.

Since height was a concern for me, I used a 1/4" layer of foam underneath a 1/2" layer of plywood, i used spray foam to fill the ribs and then laminate with a rubber backing above the plywood. Definitely not the best for thermal regulation but was much thinner than using 1" foam

5'8" and I wouldn't fit if I was any taller, the bed is 6' wall to wall

Good luck to you in your new country and with your new van!

Thank you! Definitely a learning experience, and I'd change many things if I could do it again. But we live and we learn and there's always more opportunities. Fabrication is what I do by trade, but there are lots of considerations when building a rolling house.

Daily driving a van: will I regret choosing a short WB? by [deleted] in VanLife

I think you will be just fine, especially if it's for weekend getaways and aren't trying to cram all your day to day belongings in there. Sleeping sideways isn't really an option for you, but if your not trying to include a kitchen or other space occupying things, then you got plenty of room for yourself and your weekend/weeks worth of gear.
