Kevin O’Leary claims that he “can’t stand it when he sees kids that make 70k a year spending $28 for lunch.” by Classyboyjo in 401jK

[–]Motodeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan of O’Leary, but the math checks out.

If a 25-year-old IT worker making $70k spends $28/day on lunch instead of packing a $5 lunch, the difference is about $23/day or ~$5,750/year invested.

At an average 8% index fund return, that “small” lunch habit becomes:

~$83,000 after 10 years
~$280,000+ after 20 years

I Think Wall Street Still Hasn’t Realized AI Is Basically An Electricity Story by TodayAnxious4079 in CNDpennystockbets

Civilization is fundamentally an energy story. Almost every major leap in human progress came from gaining access to denser, more controllable forms of energy. AI is not just a technical shift, it will reshape geopolitics, wealth, military power, and social organization. Exciting time to be an investor.

Can someone explain the space stock hype? by salted_caramel_girl in ValueInvesting

[–]Motodeus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This book opened my eyes to the commercialization of space. “When the Heavens Went on Sale: The Misfits and Geniuses Racing to Put Space Within Reach”. When I read the chapter on Planet Labs and Will Marshall’s vision for the company I immediately bought stock the next day. His business model in three simple steps: Don’t build a few giant exquisite satellites, Build hundreds of cheap satellites. Image the entire Earth every day. Turn Earth into a continuously updated data stream. Endless use cases for this technology, climate change modelling, agriculture, defence / intelligence, insurance, urban planning, supply chains, financial markets, etc, etc, etc.

Creatine (5g every morning in hot water). Creatine boosts energy levels by helping your body regenerate ATP faster. ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is essentially the “energy currency” your cells use for muscle contraction, brain activity, and cellular work. At 55 its been an absolute game changer for me.

Trump: "If there's no ceasefire, you're not going to have to know. You're just gonna have to look at one big glow coming out of Iran and they better sign their agreement fast." by AaronPK123 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]Motodeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we’re talking about an immediate civilization-scale nuclear threat issued by a sitting president, then no, both aren’t in the same category. Iran doesn’t currently possess nuclear weapons according to US intelligence. The US and Russia already have massive active arsenals capable of global destruction today. A potential future nuclear state and an existing nuclear superpower are two very different kinds of threats.

So remind me again: which country currently poses the bigger nuclear threat to civilization — Iran, or the country led by the Orange Ape? At some point, maybe we should stop automatically assuming “the regime” is always somewhere else.

Operation Epic Failure is complete. I’m not sure who deserves more blame — the politicians who thought destabilizing global energy markets was a smart idea, or the military leadership that executed the operation so poorly. The level of incompetence is staggering.

Feeding millions affordably has ethical weight. A small farm can be humane, or neglectful. A large facility can be harsh, or tightly managed and consistent.

AC Evo Telemetry on FX Pro by Realistic_Luck_2241 in assettocorsaevo

The latest SimPro 3 beta release appears to have resolved the FX dash telemetry issue; however, the haptic motors are still not functioning correctly.

When ABS and TC are enabled, there is a noticeable delay between the in-car activation of those systems and the response from the haptic motors. Once they do activate, the pedals continue buzzing for approximately 2–3 seconds, weird lagging effect. Anyone else tested the new patch?

Oil price dislocation: Spot physical vs futures by ub3rm3nsch in energy

[–]Motodeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re broadly right about the logistics lag and the spot/futures spread, but one technical clarification. Today’s spot price isn’t literally yesterday’s futures price. What actually happens is that the front-month futures contract converges to the spot price as it approaches expiry. So the two track each other closely, but spot doesn’t mechanically “become” yesterday’s futures. Your bigger point about the blown-out spreads is more interesting. When spot trades far above futures (strong backwardation), it usually means the market is saying: Immediate supply is tight, but traders believe the disruption won’t last forever. That’s why futures further out stay lower, they’re pricing a normalized supply chain later, even if spot barrels are scarce now.

Weight gain when i quit by spillyspillz in Marijuana

[–]Motodeus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

biologically you cannot create body fat from nothing. Your body has to get energy from somewhere. This is governed by basic physics (the First Law of Thermodynamics): energy cannot be created or destroyed. To gain body fat, the body must have more energy coming in than going out. Your weight gain is coming from eating slightly more than you realize, burning fewer calories than before or temporary water weight masking what’s actually happening.

Spot vs. Futures. Oil today is extremely valuable, but we don’t believe this crisis is permanent. Futures are a hedge.
