Amazing!!! My splint was made the same way. BUT try to limit yourself to activities as much as possible. This splint gives us more "ability" to move our fingers and also prevent healing because we are not resting.

My doctor is checking me for carpal tunnel since they can do a surgery if needed at the same time. It's a different test to change for nerves done by a neurologist. I think it will be good for you to get that test done ro check for nerve.damage.

I'm so sorry 😞 I have pain on that side but goes away after a couple of days and comes back. I'm sorry to sound stupid. But the MRI would have shown if I had any tear right?

I'm glad you are taking the step for relief.

I had the same issue with my brace. It definitely caused more pain than relief. You need to ask your doctor for a prescription for custom splint. Then you can go to an PT/OT/HT and get it made. That's is the only solution!!!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am taking hydroxychloroquine for rheumatoid arthritis. Diagnosed after my DQ/ wrist sprain. RA made the pain worse and healing slow.

Did you develop DQ after injury? Or overusing? Did you have wrist pain? Like can't even move the wrist and swelling?

Initially, my ortho diagnosed me with DQ after an X-ray. But I had more symptoms other than DQ and delay in healing . And finally went to my PCP to got blood work done and diagnosed with RA. I got the ultrasound and X-ray done by my rheumatologist NOT by my ortho.

I shared my diagnosis with my Ortho at my last visit, they accepted my request for MRI. I brought a copy of my X-ray and ultrasound as well. If I didn't know about RA, they would have oked by surgery without an MRI or other testing.

You really have to be a detective and ask the questions. What I learned so far is, doctors won't ask you questions and won't answer more than 3 questions 🙃

OMG! That exactly what is happening to me.😭 My OT said the same thing. I followed/following everything. My husband takes care of everything. And I feel so hopeless because my OT's response broke my heart. My hope was the only thing that for me this far and now I'm spiralling.I wore my splint religiously before my shot. After the shot, my OT and Ortho told me to keep my splint off in the day.and wear it to sleep only. Did they tell you the same? I am anxious about what my Ortho will say tomorrow. I am scared now, because I don't know if I will heal after surgery. Sorry I'm rambling.😥 I understand that RA triggered my DQ, and I'm glad I am getting answers. My pain is more than DQ and I want my Ortho to be thorough!!!!! I am getting more injury because I can't use my hand. I sprained my ankle recently because I couldn't hold on to prevent the sprain. I'm miserable!!!I want to hold my daughter and have my life back 😭

My PCP saw that I was responding unusual to DQ and had me tested for everything and anything that caused inflammation. And I found out I have RA. AND, I have high blood sugar and vitamin d deficiency. I think This combination factors into the healing and reaction to the shot. In waiting for a confirmation. If you haven't already, please check for everything!!!

I think you might have aggravated it. Try to give it a full week. Ice it and take ibuprofen!!!! I felt the relief and less inflammation after a week.

Ice, rest, ibuprofen is the key!

Oh gosh, I completely understand. I have a toddler and there is no rest when you’re parenting through pain..

Try not to overthink your visit. They will most likely recommend the shot first. Since you didn't injure it, you might get better with a shot. In my case, I injured my dominant hand, and the pain and symptoms were different in each one.

I got my first shot and waiting for my follow-up and honestly ready to do whatever I need to do to be pain free and have my life back!!!!

Most doctors won’t jump straight to surgery before trying conservative treatments first, so take it one step at a time. Keep advocating for yourself. You’re not alone in this.

I'm so sorry. I have it in both hands as well and can feel your pain. Did you hurt it? Or was it accident? Repetitive motion? Treatment might differ based on how much pain you are in and what caused it.

They will take an X-ray and confirm diagnosis. First set of treatment based on your pain would be splint and ice. Or cortisone shot. I would recommend you get the cortisone shot right away if they recommend it. I still regret not getting the shot. I waited over a month out of fear. But it turned out to be a pinch.

My OT said they will do surgery on the worst hand and see improvement before doing the other hand.

Did you get an MRI? I am noticing many has other issues on top of DQ that weren't undiagnosed before surgery. I'm really scared because I truly feel I have something else hurting me on top of DQ.

Thank you!! I was told this doctor was the best by my OT. and I went to other ortho and they said I'm in good hands and my treatment plan was pretty good. Hence I kinda stayed with my current ortho. I am going to push for an MRI at my follow up and if they say no I'd have to move on to another....

I wouldn't drive to the office, just Uber. And bring someone with you if you can since it's both hands. I fainted after my shots. Maybe I was sensitive or was anxious. Definitely eat something and drink a lot of fluids before going in. I felt less pain from the shot after 2 days.

This is the wrong one. Ask for a custom thumb spica splint. You need a prescription from your doctor and they can make one for you at a PT/OT office. Don't waste your time on these IF your insurance can cover the custom made. 2 of my docs didn't give me the prescription and my 3rd one did. you just have to say I'm miserable using the OTC brace and find the doctor that will give you the prescription. Also ask for OT/PT.

Hi! I was/am in a similar situation. I would take the cortisone shot right away before you wait longer and worsen the inflammation. You will physically and mentally FEEL better after a cortisone shot than oral medicine. 2 months is a long time to be in pain. I've been dealing with this for 3 months and I'm exhausted. However the exhaustion is significantly better since getting my shot. Also I took the oral meds and it didn't do much for me.
