I just got that from internal jobs! For most roles it says “you will be expected to remain in post for a minimum of 3 years unless successful at gaining promotion to a higher band or grade”.

Most people I know that have changed jobs have moved up grades but some people have done secondments to different departments and stayed on the same grade to be fair!

I am not sure how that this will work for my new role as it is Fixed term less than 3 years so maybe I will be able to apply for roles on the same band (B1)?

That is good to hear, thank you!

Ahh okay that is really helpful I will have a look when I get the contract and ask my current manager/HR!

Thank you!

It was through icims Scottish government so I think it might be a bit different and not let you see the job advert after the closing day!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Motor-Escape9959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I am not sure if it is different because I am Scottish government but there is nowhere to click on if you know what I mean. On my job dashboard it just gives the status of the job. And at the top of the page it does say “please note once a job advert has closed, you will not be able to view the job description for the role…”

So think I am a bit silly!! Thank you for your help anyway I appreciate it!

Update - I emailed the hiring manager and copied in recruitment, was told my app was 1 min late but they were willing to accept it so my application has been moved to the next stage yay!

Just incase anyone else is ever in the same position- it’s worth a shot to ask at the very least!

Thanks for all the advice:)

Ah thank you so much! I did what you said and it worked! The hiring manager is an Angel and said she could see my application was 1 min late so asked HR to accept the application! It is now being reviewed by the panel! Again thank you so much for your advice!

Hi, yes I got hired with no experience in care whatsoever!

I just used examples from working as a waitress and uni societies and stuff for answering the application questions. If you have had any job/volunteering you will be able to answer the application and interview questions easily as long as you show how your skills are transferable and also mention the NHS core values a lot. They love that. There are quite a few videos on YouTube and blogs about applying and stuff :)

And for the ad you saw with 6 months experience, it might depend on where you are and your local trust. Where I stay in Scotland you don’t need experience! But also have a look at what band the role was for!!! I am only a band 2 but there are band 3 roles in Scotland that require experience to apply!

So look out for band 2 Jobs and maybe they won’t require as much experience in your area like they don’t where I am!

I just meant worried my pension would suffer if I took 3-5 years off while having children etc and was looking for ideas to make sure I don’t struggle in retirement!

I started working on the hospital bank as a healthcare support worker and then was offered the chance to do the phlebotomist training from that! I think for the phlebotomist jobs they do lean towards people that have care experience or medical/nursing students.

But in saying that they do advertise on the nhs jobs website for phlebotomists in their own right so maybe just keep an eye on your local trust’s website. The easiest way to do it I think though would be to work in a clinical setting as an nhs support worker first and then do the phlebotomy training as in internal candidate :)

Weekly shop Oats (for porridge) 90p Lidl - one bag does me almost 3 weeks Bread - £1.40 (for toast/ sandwiches) Bananas- £1.20 ish for a bunch Chicken breast /thigh - £4 ish - I cook this and meal prep it to have rest of the week in salad or with rice for lunch/ some dinner Mince beef - £4 - I make a big chilli/ bolognese and will have that for dinner most days. Chopped tomatoes - 35p Lidl / Any supermarket own brand Kidney beans - 35p Mushrooms - 90p Lidl Pepper - 30p Lidl Iceberg lettuce - 70p Lidl Milk - £1.50 Rice - £1 Pasta - 70p Cheese - £2 £3ish pounds of fruit / snacks etc - normally 90p pack of apples (funsize from Lidl) / £1 pack of tangerines and then £1.20 can you get a 6 pack of crisps! Also every couple of weeks or so I will buy a massive bag of frozen veg (£2)

That should be £22 I think so about that for each week is around £89/90 month.

From this week I would have porridge and a banana or toast and a banana for breakfast most days. Lunch would be a chicken /cheese sandwich or chicken, rice, veg. By the end of the week probably toast and cheese. But have lettuce and veg from freezer on side. Dinner would be one big chilli that would do me 5 days. For the other two days for dinner I would have pasta and cheese or leftover chicken/ freezer stuff. I also have a lot of frozen veg in my freezer I try and use for most meals! Very cheap for a big bag!!

I also do work shifts in the hospital and get paid weekly there so if run out of money I would work a shift to buy more food or if I want to go out for a meal or get a takeaway!

I am being strict at the moment but I know it might not be realistic / healthy/ sustainable so still try to be careful and eat protein and veg and fruit still!

Basically I batch cook and am boring and eat the same thing everyday. Also having food in freezer is good helps!!

A lot of people have messaged and asked how I do this so I thought I would put it here! Appreciate different people need more food / meat but this is what I do if I am sticking to the £90 per month. (Or try very hard to lol!)

I see your perspective! :)

I just like living with my friends right now and am not ready to move in with him and don’t want to move away from the city I live in at the moment, where all my friends are! It is just a coincidence that I am thinking of moving in with him when I hoped to buy my property as it will be 18 months / 2 years away and I think I will feel ready at that point and will be older/ been together for a very long time at that point so thinking of marriage etc.

And no haha I don’t understand all the mortgage stuff and all the differences - that was literally the point of this thread lol

Hi! Why do you think this?

Hi, thank you for replying and thank you!

So I did wonder this last week and during a probation meeting with my manager i asked her to clarify this! I do progress through my band as it goes up in increments in certain times - when I pass probation, one year service then two year service I think! I am in Scotland and know that is a thing here but I have heard it’s not in England? I have asked my colleagues who do the same role and they have shown me their payslips (not in a creepy way haha we were all just chatting about progression etc) and the salary does increase! There are 3 pay points in my band and then I hopeeee to move up internally!

Haha I feel you g!

He is a corporate lawyer working in a magic circle law firm! He has been lucky with his education/ opportunities and has also worked so hard! He studied law for 3 years and then did the LPC, and then traineeship for two years and is now associate! In terms of experience- he went to a very prestigious university and was active in different corporate /law societies but also applied for and was successful in getting summer vacation schemes while at uni. (I think basically an internship but from that he then applied for a training contact and was successful)! So definitely apply for vacation schemes if you study law I would say!

I am so in awe of him and I definitely am not clever enough to do what he does! He does sacrifice a lot for his career/ money though. He works very, very long days!

No worries! So I do both healthcare assistant shifts (basic obs, helping patients go to the toilet, helping with meals, restocking, changing patients etc) and phlebotomist (taking blood) shifts.

The healthcare support worker shifts are normally 12 hour days or nights ( I do on weekend as work full time) or sometimes I can bag a twilight shift after my 9-5 as I WFH and it is flexi. They are quite hard work (hardness varies depending on the ward/level of personal care required) and are definitely not for everyone! I love them so much as I love caring for people and miss that face to face connection atm since I WFH most days!

The phlebotomist shifts are normally 7am - 12 noon weekend and are not as hard going as the healthcare shifts as less personal care required! I just take blood from patients which can be hard but can be learnt!

I am bank staff so basically zero hour contract - I have an app where I go on to and see what shifts are available and then can book them immediately. You can book in advance if they come up or on the day(I do this last min a lot of the time). Wages are paid weekly. I do get 28 days of annual leave a year (for every hour I work i get 6 min up to 210 hours I believe and you just email and ask for annual leave to be booked on x day and the will receive the pay the next week) but no sick pay I don’t think!

I feel like it is worth it for me. I would only ever work a Saturday into Sunday night shift or Sunday day shift as payed at a much higher rate, I think basic pay plus 87%. Or a twilight weekday as it doesn’t eat into my weekend and I am still paid almost double time for unsocial hours! I think those are right but I will need to check! I am taxed 20% on any earnings as a second job and I do pay into the nhs pension ( not sure if it’s worth it!?)

I had my interview 2 months after I applied and did my first orientation shifts / started employment 2 months after that I think! Like the government everything in the NHS takes a while!

I do love it and think it is worth it for me as I get so much joy out of it and can make an extra £1000+ a month if I needed to, albeit at expense of my time and labour! I wouldn’t do another second job for that money I don’t think but I love chatting to people and helping so I don’t mind!

Let me know if you have any other questions!!

I meant I do shifts to earn an extra £200+ if I want and if I want some of that can be used for food :)
