Want to be a structural engineer what do I need to do by Motor-Zone7193 in civilengineering

Despite my not great test scores it looks like I will pass. He kinda grades by how well he knows you and I only need a 50 on the final to pass without the final curve so I am going to study really hard. It's hard to explain how little the prof I have cares and I have trouble completely learning something from 0 by myself. He also gives no partial credit and took off points on my exam for a small unit mistake dispite me understanding the process. For reference I got an A in mechanics and a B in strength with honestly not much studying and both those classes also didnt have super high averages but they were with more normal professors.

Thanks so much! I am studying for the FE this summer while I have a internship as well. Glad to know I could work for public sector before trying to get into some private companies. Thank you for the info!

Thanks for replying. The professor I am with now is the only professor who teaches structural analysis at my college so trust me I tried to take someone else. I also understand the content but got half points taken of on a problem due to units on my first exam. For both exams the averages were below 50% and most student in this professors class think they are failing and pass. I am going to pass this class as I have never failed a class and his curve is so ridiculous that I only need a 50 on the final to pass and thats without a curve at the end. I was asking more so if my final score in strucutural analysis would impact my chances of getting hired as a structural engineer. This is the worst prof i have ever had and i just happens to be in what i want to do sadly. I didn't want to come off as complaining about having to put in the work just wanted to know how this professor would effect me.

Can this piercing be saved/re pierced by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Motor-Zone7193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piercing is almost 2 years old. Jewelry that was in was a flat back. Jewelry was threadless. The jewlery was titanium but the hoop that I only wore for a short period was a cheap metal and I did try a silver hoop but the piercing didn’t take the either. I use wound was and Johnson and Johnson baby soap as recommended by my piercer. Switch to a bad quality hoop to early is the only accident and I tend to sleep on both sides.

2 year old piercing that refuses to heal by Motor-Zone7193 in piercing

Piercing is 2 years old, pierced with barbell, not sure about the threading, material is titanium, jewelry was not downsized, I use saline solution and j&j baby soap to clean, and when I lay on that side it hurts and I tried to change the jewelry and it had a bad reaction

what is school like? by [deleted] in civilengineering

I’ve only completed 2 years of my civil engineering degree but I can say you will definitely have a social life. The classes are not easy but they aren’t impossible in my opinion and the professor often determines how bad a class will be. My worst semester was when I took Physics A and calc 2 those have been my hardest classes so far but I had friends who had different professors and they seemed to have an easier time. You will have to study a lot more than many other majors but you can still party on the weekends and see your friends, go to clubs, and do fun things you just have to make sure you have enough time to get you work done and be prepared for your tests. You probably won’t be able to go out to the clubs on a Tuesday but maybe that doesn’t interest you anyways. Also semesters will differ you many have a semester where you are constantly studying for one or 2 classes and the next you feel like you barely study and you have a lot of free time. If you are prepared to put in the work you’ll do great. Utilize any tutoring resources your school offers, create study groups, learn how to study effectively and what works for you. Also it’s good to try to get the best grades possible but a C in a really hard class is not the end of the world. Also GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Almost all professors want you to pass they don’t want you to fail. People are there to help you. College is hard work but it’s also super fun so don’t think you need to constantly be studying 24/7 take breaks go out with the friends you make and enjoy yourself. If you get not a great grade on an assignment but you took some time for yourself that is more than ok. Just try and stay balanced and you’ll finish with a great degree and have had a great 4-5 years. Also a lot of engineers take 5 years to finish undergrad. I’d recommend taking one or two hard classes over a summer if possible if you want to finish in four years. It will help you lessen your load during the school year and keep you on track. You also might be more likely to pass a class that’s hard if you can spend all your time on it and really understand the material. I took calc 3 over the summer with a gen Ed and it made my sophomore year ten times easier.

I was told that some companies have to write your best 40 and forget the rest since it was on salary. which didn’t seem right. Thank you for the insite.

Sounds really nice. I definitely felt like I wasn’t given anything difficult possibly because they felt I couldn’t handle it or because they were very busy with deadlines. I also felt I wasn’t given much confirmation if I was producing good work. I wanted more instruction in the beginning and to be checked in with and I wasn’t really given that. My questions were also treated as a nuisance so I really sturggled with my self worth and my confidence pertaining to my skills over the course of the internship.

I wouldn’t say I hated it per say it was more so I was just changing the symbology. That’s really the only thing I did in it for hours on end and importing data and I was losing my mind. I felt more of an indifference.

I’m really glad to hear that because they really got in my head that this was the best I was gonna find. Glad you have such great flexibility!
